Parametric elliptic reconstructions and a posteriori error estimates for parabolic partial differential equations with small randomness in a Robin boundary condition

We obtain reliable a posteriori residual-based error estimates for parabolic partial differential equations with small randomness in a Robin-type boundary condition. The uncertainty is addressed via a perturbation approach, transforming the problem with small random input data into a sequence of deterministic problems. Finite element approximations, combined with the backward Euler time discretization, are employed for the resulting problems. To ensure optimal spatial accuracy, the elliptic reconstruction framework is suitably adapted to this setting. This is achieved by introducing a parametric elliptic reconstruction operator that unifies the a posteriori analysis of deterministic parabolic problems with that of parabolic problems with small uncertainties. The obtained a posteriori error estimator is robust with respect to the parameter that describes the amount of uncertainty, in the sense that the constants appearing in the bounds are independent of the parameter, as well as of the mesh size and the time-step. In addition, numerical experiments are presented to validate the theoretical findings and illustrate the robustness of the proposed estimators.

Global Well-Posedness and Numerical Approximation of a Coupled Darcy-Convection-Diffusion System with Exponential Nonlinearity

This paper investigates density driven flow in porous media, focusing on the roles of viscosity contrast, density contrast, and linear adsorption. In this setup, the fluid on top is heavier and more viscous than the fluid below. Under the effect of gravity, this system becomes unstable, and finger-like structures appear. The phenomenon is described mathematically by coupling Darcy's law with a convection-diffusion reaction equation. The nonlinearity in this model arises mainly from the concentration dependence of viscosity and the convective transport term. The existence of a unique pair of weak solutions is shown using the Galerkin approximation method and truncation technique. Moreover, an application of the maximum principle shows non-negativity of the concentration. Additionally, we analyze the long-time behavior of the solution and prove that the concentration converges exponentially to zero in the $L^p$-norm for all $1 \le p \le \infty$ as $t \to \infty.$ To complement the theoretical analysis, we perform numerical simulations based on a pressure formulation. By tracking total kinetic energy and mixing measures over time, we discuss the instability and the mixing efficiency, respectively. The present study reveals that although increasing the density contrast amplifies the total kinetic energy, the marginal impact diminishes with successive increments of density contrast. Similarly, while adsorption acts to suppress mixing, its efficiency in doing so tends to saturate with further increases. These behavior are consistent with the numerical simulations.

On Two Conservative HDG Schemes for Nonlinear Klein-Gordon Equation

In this article, a hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) method is proposed and analyzed for the Klein-Gordon equation with local Lipschitz-type non-linearity. {\it A priori} error estimates are derived, and it is proved that approximations of the flux and the displacement converge with order $O(h^{k+1}),$ where $h$ is the discretizing parameter and $k$ is the degree of the piecewise polynomials to approximate both flux and displacement variables. After post-processing of the semi-discrete solution, it is shown that the post-processed solution converges with order $O(h^{k+2})$ for $k \geq 1.$ Moreover, a second-order conservative finite difference scheme is applied to discretize in time %second-order convergence in time. and it is proved that the discrete energy is conserved with optimal error estimates for the completely discrete method. %Since at each time step, one has to solve a nonlinear system of algebraic equations, To avoid solving a nonlinear system of algebraic equations at each time step, a non-conservative scheme is proposed, and its error analysis is also briefly established. Moreover, another variant of the HDG scheme is analyzed, and error estimates are established. Finally, some numerical experiments are conducted to confirm our theoretical findings.

Global Stabilization of Two Dimensional Viscous Burgers' Equation by Nonlinear Neumann Boundary Feedback Control and its Finite Element Analysis

In this article, global stabilization results for the two dimensional (2D) viscous Burgers' equation, that is, convergence of unsteady solution to its constant steady state solution with any initial data, are established using a nonlinear Neumann boundary feedback control law. Then, applying $C^0$-conforming finite element method in spatial direction, optimal error estimates in $L^\infty(L^2)$ and in $L^\infty(H^1)$- norms for the state variable and convergence result for the boundary feedback control law are derived. All the results preserve exponential stabilization property. Finally, several numerical experiments are conducted to confirm our theoretical findings.

Global Stabilization of 2D Forced Viscous Burgers' Equation Around Nonconstant Steady State Solution by Nonlinear Neumann Boundary Feedback Control:Theory and Finite Element Analysis

Global stabilization of viscous Burgers' equation around constant steady state solution has been discussed in the literature. The main objective of this paper is to show global stabilization results for the 2D forced viscous Burgers' equation around a nonconstant steady state solution using nonlinear Neumann boundary feedback control law, under some smallness condition on that steady state solution. On discretizing in space using $C^0$ piecewise linear elements keeping time variable continuous, a semidiscrete scheme is obtained. Moreover, global stabilization results for the semidiscrete solution and optimal error estimates for the state variable in $L^\infty(L^2)$ and $L^\infty(H^1)$-norms are derived. Further, optimal convergence result is established for the boundary feedback control law. All our results in this paper preserve exponential stabilization property. Finally, some numerical experiments are documented to confirm our theoretical findings.

Global Stabilization of BBM-Burgers' Type Equations by Nonlinear Boundary Feedback Control Laws: Theory and Finite Element Error Analysis

In this article, global stabilization results for the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-Burgers' (BBM-B) type equations are obtained using nonlinear Neumann boundary feedback control laws. Based on the $C^0$-conforming finite element method, global stabilization results for the semidiscrete solution are also discussed. Optimal error estimates in $L^\infty(L^2)$, $L^\infty(H^1)$ and $L^\infty(L^\infty)$-norms for the state variable are derived, which preserve exponential stabilization property. Moreover, for the first time in the literature, superconvergence results for the boundary feedback control laws are established. Finally, several numerical experiments are conducted to confirm our theoretical findings.
