Transient Early Dark Energy-Like Dynamics as a Mechanism for Enhanced Early Structure Formation in the JWST Era

The discovery of massive galaxies at redshifts $z\gtrsim10$ by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has renewed interest in cosmological mechanisms capable of enhancing early structure formation while preserving the successful large-scale predictions of the standard $Λ$CDM model. We investigate a phenomenological scenario in which an exotic dark matter species can undergo a transient early dark energy-like phase during the radiation-dominated era ($10^{-7}\lesssim a\lesssim10^{-5}$) before reverting to pressureless cold dark matter. We utilize the generalized dark matter framework to model this species, which is restricted to a sub-percent fraction of the total dark matter component by CMB, BAO and Type Ia supernova data. Its background and perturbation dynamics are characterized by a time-dependent equation of state, $w(a)$, and a time- as well as scale-dependent sound speed, $c_s^2(a,k)$. The temporary negative equation of state, combined with our phenomenological pressure-response prescription, induces a finite interval of negative effective sound speed squared. This triggers an instability-driven growth of density perturbations over a limited range of comoving scales, thereby enhancing the formation of early dark matter halos. We find that the enhanced halo abundance can substantially reduce the star-formation efficiencies required to reproduce the observed abundance of JWST galaxies relative to the standard $Λ$CDM scenario, especially at higher redshifts. Our results demonstrate that transient early dark energy-like dynamics in a subdominant dark matter component provide a viable mechanism for enhancing early structure formation and offer a new framework for interpreting the abundance of high-redshift galaxies observed by JWST and future surveys.

Towards mixed QCDxEW corrections to the charged-current Drell-Yan process with leptonic decay at high transverse masses

The Drell-Yan process is a key precision benchmark at the Large Hadron Collider and a sensitive probe of SM and SMEFT effects. Fully exploiting future LHC data requires percent-level SM predictions, motivating precise EW and mixed QCDxEW corrections. In this proceeding we report of the progress towards the calculation of mixed QCDxEW corrections to charged-current Drell-Yan with leptonic decay at high transverse masses, performed within the Nested Soft-Collinear Subtraction framework. After presenting a validation at NLO, we show results for the NNLO real corrections and compare their impact in the neutral-current and newly developed charged-current channels. These contributions are essential to match the current and future precision of LHC measurements, especially in regions where electroweak effects are enhanced by Sudakov logarithms.

Light-by-light scattering at three loops in massless QCD and QED: amplitudes and cross sections

We present the calculation of three-loop massless QCD and QED helicity amplitudes for light-by-light scattering. We make use of Lorentz tensor decomposition in the 't Hooft-Veltman dimensional regularisation scheme to reduce the complexity of the computation. Our analytic amplitude results are remarkably compact and can be efficiently evaluated numerically. We employ them to compute the corresponding NNLO differential cross-section predictions in the invariant mass and rapidity distributions of the di-photon system, for which we find agreement with the experimental ATLAS data from ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions.

Hint of dark matter-dark energy interaction in DESI DR2 and current cosmological dataset?

We present new constraints on an interacting dark matter-dark energy scenario motivated by string compactification, where a scalar field adiabatically tracks the minimum of an effective potential sourced by dark matter density. In this study, we focus on the Chameleon dark energy model and numerically solve the Klein-Gordon equation using a shooting algorithm to determine precise initial conditions such that the field rests at effective potential minima today. We perform a comprehensive Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis using a combination of datasets, including Planck, BAO (SDSS and DESI DR2), Pantheon+, and SH$_0$ES. Our analysis shows a mild preference for a higher non-zero dark sector coupling, compared to earlier works on similar models, for two particular combinations of datasets: (i) Planck + DESI DR2 BAO +.Pantheon+, (ii) Planck + SDSS BAO + Pantheon+ + SH$0$ES. Notably, the inclusion of DESI DR2 and SH$0$ES data increases the inferred interaction strength to $β\sim 0.3$ (68\% C.L.) and yields weak and positive evidence in favor of the model over $Λ$CDM, with $Δχ^2_{\rm min} = -4.75, -6.41$ and $Δ$AIC= $-0.75, -2.41$ respectively. This model remains consistent with a phantom crossing at redshift $z\sim 0.5$, in agreement with the trend indicated by DESI observations. However, due to the settlement of the scalar field at the minima of the effective potential at the present epoch, the effective dark energy equation of state asymptotically approaches $w_{\rm eff}\to -1$. leading to only weak evidence in favor of this model when analyzed using the DESI DR2 dataset.

Neutrino mass constraints in the context of 4-parameter dark energy equation of state and DESI DR2 observations

Cosmological constraints on the total neutrino mass, $\sum m_ν$, are strongly shaped by assumptions about the dark-energy equation of state due to the well-known degeneracy between massive neutrinos and late-time cosmic acceleration. In this work, we move beyond the two-parameter Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) form adopted in recent DESI analyses and re-examine neutrino mass constraints using a flexible four-parameter dark energy equation of state (4pDE). We implement the 4pDE model in a modified version of CLASS and perform a full MCMC analysis using Planck, DESI DR2 BAO, and Pantheon+ data. Relative to our previous 4pDE study based on pre-DESI BAO datasets, the inclusion of DESI DR2 substantially tightens the constraints on the transition parameters while still yielding a relaxed neutrino-mass bound compared to $Λ$CDM, $\sum m_ν< 0.101$ eV ($95\%$ C.L.). This upper limit is more stringent than the DESI DR2 constraint obtained within the $w_0w_a$CDM framework. From the best-fit parameters, we reconstruct the evolution of the 4pDE equation of state along with both $68\%$ and $95\%$C.L. We do not find a statistically significant phantom-crossing at $z \sim 0.5$, consistent with the conclusion from the DESI collaboration; at higher redshifts, the reconstructed $w(z)$ follows the CPL evolution and deviates only at low redshift. Additionally we also find reduction in $Δχ^2_{\rm min}=-7.3$ compared to $Λ$CDM model.

DESI results: Hint towards coupled dark matter and dark energy

We investigate a scenario where a dark energy quintessence field $ϕ$ with positive kinetic energy is coupled with dark matter. With two different self-interaction potentials for the field and a particular choice of the coupling function, we show explicitly how the observable effective equation of state parameter $w_{\rm eff}$ for the dark energy field crosses the phantom barrier ($w_{\rm eff} = -1$) while keeping the equation of state of the quintessence field $w_ϕ> -1$. With appropriate choices of parameters, $w_{\rm eff}$ crosses the phantom divide around redshift $z\sim 0.5$, transitioning from $w_{\rm eff} <-1$ in the past to $w_{\rm eff}>-1$ today. This explains DESI observations well. Our analysis reveals that the model remains consistent within the $2σ$ confidence intervals provided by DESI for several combinations of the scalar field parameters, highlighting its potential in explaining the dynamics of dark energy arising from a simple Yukawa-type long-range interaction in the dark sector. While the current findings offer a promising framework for interpreting DESI observations, future work, including a comprehensive Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis, is necessary to constrain the parameter space further and strengthen the statistical significance of the results.

Cosmological constraints on mass-varying dark matter

As one of the fundamental unknowns of our Universe, the mass of dark matter remains to be a topic of great interest. We consider the possibility of a time-variation of the dark matter mass. We study the cosmological constraints on a model where the dark matter mass transitions from zero to a finite value in the early Universe. In this model, the matter power spectrum exhibits power suppression below a certain scale that depends on the epoch of transition, and the angular power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background shows a distinctive phase shift and power suppression at small scales. We use the latest cosmic microwave background data and the $S_8$ priors from weak lensing data to place a lower limit on the transition redshift. We also find that the data from the ACT show a mild preference for the mass-varying dark matter model over $Λ$CDM.

Two-loop helicity amplitudes for diphoton production with massive quark loop

We compute two-loop helicity amplitudes in QCD for diphoton production through quark- and gluon-initiated channels, accounting for a massive internal quark loop by keeping its full mass dependence. Using physical projectors, we directly decompose the amplitude into its helicity components. By renormalising the heavy quark mass in on-shell, and other quantities in $\overline{\rm MS}$ schemes, we obtain finite remainders. This work paves the way for calculating the cross-section for diphoton production at higher orders in QCD with a massive quark loop, employing different subtraction schemes. The effect of a heavy quark is expected to play a crucial role in high-luminosity LHC.

Three-loop helicity amplitudes for four-quark scattering in massless QCD

We compute the three-loop corrections to the helicity amplitudes for $q\bar{q}\to Q\bar{Q}$ scattering in massless QCD. In the Lorentz decomposition of the scattering amplitude we avoid evanescent Lorentz structures and map the corresponding form factors directly to the physical helicity amplitudes. We reduce the amplitudes to master integrals and express them in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. The renormalised amplitudes exhibit infrared divergences of dipole and quadrupole type, as predicted by previous work on the infrared structure of multileg scattering amplitudes. We derive the finite remainders and present explicit results for all relevant partonic channels, both for equal and different quark flavours.

The prior dependence of the DESI results

In this short contribution, we explore the prior dependence of the recent DESI results, according to which a Bayesian comparison of $Λ$CDM with $w_0w_a$CDM cosmologies favors dynamical dark energy. It is a simple exercise to show that extending the prior lower bound of the dark energy parameters tilts the preference in favor of $Λ$CDM. Adopting the PantheonPlus supernovae catalog, for instance, a shift of the lower bound for $w_0,w_a$ from $-3$ to beyond $-4.6$ and $-5$, respectively, is sufficient to favor $Λ$CDM. This calls for caution when interpreting DESI results in the Bayesian context.

Three-loop gluon scattering in QCD and the gluon Regge trajectory

We compute the three-loop helicity amplitudes for the scattering of four gluons in QCD. We employ projectors in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme and construct the amplitudes from a minimal set of physical building blocks, which allows us to keep the computational complexity under control. We obtain relatively compact results that can be expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. In addition, we consider the Regge limit of our amplitude and extract the gluon Regge trajectory in full three-loop QCD. This is the last missing ingredient required for studying single-Reggeon exchanges at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy.

Three-loop helicity amplitudes for photon+jet production

We present three-loop helicity amplitudes for the production of a single photon in association with one jet in Quantum Chromodynamics, a final state which provides a standard candle of the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider. We employ a recently-proposed variation of the so-called tensor projection method in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme (tHV) which avoids the computation of contributions due to unphysical (-2$ε$)-dimensional polarisations of the external states. We obtain compact analytic results expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms.

Three-Loop Four-Point Scattering Amplitudes in Massless Gauge Theories

We present novel techniques for the computation of three-loop four-parton scattering amplitudes in full color, non-planar gauge theories. We elaborate on how the analytic results for these amplitudes can be used to confirm the conjectured infrared structure of QCD up to three loops and how all-orders data can be extracted from their high-energy limit.

Three-loop helicity amplitudes for quark-gluon scattering in QCD

We compute the three-loop helicity amplitudes for $q\bar{q} \to gg$ and its crossed partonic channels, in massless QCD. Our analytical results provide a non-trivial check of the color quadrupole contribution to the infrared poles for external states in different color representations. At high energies, the $qg \to qg$ amplitude shows the predicted factorized form from Regge theory and confirms previous results for the gluon Regge trajectory extracted from $qq' \to qq'$ and $gg \to gg$ scattering.

Formation and Abundance of Late Forming Primordial Black Holes as Dark Matter

We propose a novel mechanism where Primordial Black Hole (PBH) dark matter is formed much later in the history of the universe between the epoch of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) and Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) photon decoupling. In our setup, one does not need to modify the scale-invariant inflationary power spectra; instead, a late phase transition in strongly interacting fermion-scalar fluid (which naturally occurs around red-shift $ 10^6 \leq \, z_{\scriptscriptstyle T} \, \leq 10^8$ ) creates an instability in the density perturbation as sound speed turns imaginary. As a result, the dark matter perturbation grows exponentially in sub-Compton scales. This follows the immediate formation of early dense dark matter halo, which finally evolves into PBH due to cooling through scalar radiation. We calculate the variance of the density perturbations and PBH fractional abundances $f(M)$ by using a non-monochromatic mass function. We find the peak of our PBH mass function lies between $10^{-16} - 10^{-14}$ solar mass for $ z_{\scriptscriptstyle T} \simeq 10^6$, and thus it can be the entire dark matter of the universe. In PBH formation, one would expect a temporary phase where an attractive scalar balances the Fermi pressure. We numerically confirm that such a state indeed exists, and we find the radius and density profile of the temporary static structure of the dark matter halo, which finally evolves to PBH due to cooling through scalar radiation.

The $Hb\bar{b}$ vertex at four loops and hard matching coefficients in SCET for various currents

We compute the four-loop corrections to the Higgs-bottom vertex within massless QCD and present analytic results for all color structures. The infrared poles of the renormalized form factor agree with the predicted four-loop pattern. Furthermore, we use the results for the Higgs-bottom, photon-quark, and Higgs-gluon form factors to provide hard matching coefficients in soft-collinear effective theory up to four-loop accuracy.

Form factors with two operator insertions and the principle of maximal transcendentality

We present the first calculations of two-point two-loop form factors (FFs) with a two identical operators insertion in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. In this article, we consider the supersymmetry protected half-BPS primary and unprotected Konishi operators. Unlike the FFs of a single operator insertion of the half-BPS primary, the FFs involving two half-BPS operators are found to contain lower transcendentality weight terms in addition to the highest ones. Moreover, in contrast to Sudakov FFs, the highest weight terms of the FFs of a double half-BPS no longer match with that of a double Konishi. We also find that the principle of maximal transcendentality, which dictates the presence of identical highest weight terms in the scalar FFs of half-BPS and quark/gluon FFs in QCD, does not hold true anymore for insertions of two identical operators. We discover the absence of any additional ultraviolet counterterm that could arise from the contact interaction between two composite operators.

Resummed prediction for Higgs boson production through $b\bar{b}$ annihilation at N$^3$LL

We present an accurate theoretical prediction for the production of Higgs boson through bottom quark annihilation at the LHC up to next-to-next-to-next-to leading order (N$^3$LO) plus next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^3$LL) accuracy. We determine the third order perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) correction to the process dependent constant in the resummed expression using the three loop bottom quark form factor and third order quark soft distribution function. Thanks to the recent computation of N$^3$LO corrections to this production cross-section from all the partonic channels, an accurate matching can be obtained for a consistent predictions at N$^3$LO+N$^3$LL accuracy in QCD. We have studied in detail the impact of resummed threshold contributions to inclusive cross-sections at various centre-of-mass energies and also discussed their sensitivity to renormalization and factorization scales at next-to-next-to leading order (NNLO) matched with next-to-next-to leading logarithm (NNLL). At N$^3$LO+N$^3$LL, we predict the cross-section for different centre-of-mass energies using the recently available results in \cite{Duhr:2019kwi} as well as study the renormalization scale dependence at the same order.
