Effect of inter-edge interaction in a quantum Hall collider

Fractional quantum Hall (FQH) colliders measure anyon exchange phases via time-domain braiding, but the $ν=2/5$ state exhibits an intriguing negative Fano factor, challenging theoretical predictions. Here, we study the effect of inter-edge interactions in a multi-mode FQH collider. We demonstrate that the resulting fractionalization into eigenmodes causes the anyon beam to decompose into correlated and uncorrelated components, which have very distinct behavior in terms of time-domain braiding. We show that the uncorrelated part dominates in the long-junction limit, reversing the tunneling current sign and reproducing the observed negative Fano factor at $ν=2/5$. Our results highlight the role of interactions and provide a robust interpretation of anyonic braiding in multi-mode systems.

Elevated Hall Responses as Indicators of Edge Reconstruction

We investigate edge reconstruction scenarios in the $ν= 1$ quantum Hall state, focusing on configurations with upstream and downstream charge and neutral modes. Our analysis shows that the coexistence of upstream charge and neutral modes in a multi-terminal geometry can cause pronounced deviations from the expected quantized values of electrical ($e^2/h$) and thermal ($π^2 k_\text{B}^{2}T/3h$) Hall conductance dictated by bulk-boundary correspondence. In particular, we find that both electrical and thermal Hall conductances can be significantly enhanced -- exceeding twice their unreconstructed values -- offering a clear diagnostic of edge reconstruction.

Dynamic enhancement of conductance in fractional quantum Hall constriction

A disparity in the charge of quasi-particle excitations across a tunnel junction can trigger Andreev-like processes, creating an effect similar to that of a step-up transformer. We study such a junction in its strong coupling limit in the context of quantum Hall states. Specifically, for filling fractions $ν=1$ and $1/3$, we show the DC gain in the transformer action is bounded by 3/2, irrespective of the interedge interaction range, while the AC gain is bounded by $\sqrt{3}$ and is sensitive to the range of the interaction. This setup presents a unique possibility of frequency-tunable resonances and anti-resonances across the QPC.

Statistical Interaction Driven Thermoelectricity and Violation of Wiedemann-Franz Law

Quantum transport anomalies in systems obeying Haldane-Wu fractional exclusion statistics, characterized by the statistical interactions parameter $g$ are investigated. We identify particle-hole symmetry breaking of the Haldane-Wu distribution function via its deviations of the maximum entropy ($\mathcal{S}_{g}^{max}$), evaluated at the chemical potential, from the value ${k_B} \ln 2$ (a value that holds only at the free fermion limit, $g=1$). A duality relation, $g\,\mathcal{S}_{g}^{max}=\mathcal{S}_{1/g}^{max}$, quantifying the degree of violation is obtained. This symmetry breaking manifests in transport phenomena as: significant violations of the Wiedemann-Franz law arising for $g>1$ (but remain absent for $g\leq 1$) across a broad temperature range. Moreover, the thermoelectric figure of merit $ZT$ is substantially enhanced for $g>1$ and suppressed for $g<1$, indicating new routes to optimize energy conversion. These results deepen the understanding of the interplay between equilibrium statistics and transport, suggesting avenues for engineering advanced thermoelectric materials.

Can Majorana zero modes in quantum Hall edges survive edge reconstruction?

Parafermion zero modes can be trapped in the domain walls of quantum Hall edges proximitized by superconductors and ferromagnets. The $ν= 1/3$ fractional quantum Hall side strip arising due to edge reconstruction of a $ν= 1$ edge doubles the number of topological sectors such that each of them is $Z_{2} \times Z_{2}$ degenerate. The many-body spectrum displays a $4π$ Josephson periodicity, with the states in each $Z_{2}$ being energetically decoupled. Signatures of the new states appear in the fractional Josephson current when the edge velocities are taken to be different.

Dimensional crossover in self-organised super-radiant phases of ultra cold atoms inside a cavity

We consider a condensate of ultra cold bosonic atoms in a linear optical cavity illuminated by a two-pump configuration where each pump is making different angles with the direction of the cavity axis. We show such configuration allows a smooth transition from a one-dimensional quantum optical lattice configuration to a two-dimensional quantum optical lattice configuration induced by the cavity-atom interaction. Using a Holstein-Primakoff transformation, we find out the atomic density profile of such self-organised ground state in the super-radiant phase as a function of the angular orientations of the pump in such dynamical quantum optical lattice, and, also provide an analysis of their structures in coordinate and momentum space. In the later part of the paper, we show how the corresponding results can also be qualitatively understood in terms of an Extended Bose-Hubbard model in such quantum optical lattice potential.

Enhancement in tunneling density of states in Luttinger liquid -- role of non-local interaction

Power law suppression of local electronic tunneling density of states (TDOS) in the zero-energy limit is a hallmark of Luttinger liquid (LL) phase of the interacting 1-D electron system. We present a theoretical model which hosts LL state with the surprising feature of enhancement rather than suppression in local TDOS originating from non-local and repulsive density-density interactions. Importantly, we find enhancement of TDOS in the manifold of parameter space where the system is stable in the renormalization group (RG) sense. We argue that enhancement of TDOS along with RG stability is possible only when the system has broken parity symmetry about the position of local TDOS enhancement. Such a model could be realized on the edge states of a bi-layer quantum Hall system where both intra-layer and inter-layer density-density interactions are present mimicking the role of local and non-local interactions respectively.

Tunneling density of states in Luttinger Liquid in proximity to a superconductor: Effect of non-local interaction

A recent study have shown that it is possible to have enhancement, in contrast to an expected suppression, in tunneling density of states (TDOS) in a Luttinger liquid (LL) which is solely driven by the non-local density-density interactions. Also, it is well known that a LL in proximity to a superconductor (SC) shows enhancement in TDOS in the vicinity of the junction in the zero energy limit. In this paper, we study the interplay of nonlocal density-density interaction and superconducting correlations in the TDOS in the vicinity of the SC-LL junction, where the LL maybe realized on the edge of an integer or a fractional quantum Hall state. We show that the TDOS enhancement in a LL quantum wire (QW) due to superconducting correlation at the junction can be farther amplified in presence of appropriate choice of non-local interaction parameters, which is demonstrated through a neat algebraic expression in the weak interaction limit. We also show that, in the full parameter regime comprising both the local and the non-local interaction, the region of enhanced TDOS for LL junction with "superconducting" boundary condition and that of "non-superconducting charge conserving" boundary condition (discussed in Phys. Rev. B 104, 045402 (2021)) are mutually exclusive. We show that this fact can be understood in terms of symmetry relation established between the superconducting and non-superconducting sectors of the theory. We compare the dependence of the proximity induced pair potential and TDOS as a function of distance $x$ from the junction. We demonstrate that the dependence of the spatial power law exponent for the `TDOS(x)/TDOS(x -> 0)' and the `pair-potential(x)/pair-potential(x -> 0)' are distinct function of the various local and non-local interaction parameters, which implies that the TDOS enhancement can not be directly attributed to the proximity induced pair potential in the LL.

Spontaneous fractional Josephson current from parafermions

We study a parafermion Josephson junction (JJ) comprising a pair of counter-propagating edge modes of two quantum Hall (QH) systems, proximitized by an s-wave superconductor. We show that the difference between the lengths (which can be controlled by external gates) of the two counter-propagating chiral edges at the Josephson junction, can act as a source of spontaneous phase bias. For the Laughlin filling fractions, $ν= 1/m,~ m \in 2\mathbb{Z}+1$, this leads to an electrical control of either Majorana $(m=1)$ or parafermion $(m\neq 1)$ zero modes.

Landau level diagram and the continuous rotational symmetry breaking in trilayer graphene

The sequence of the zeroth Landau levels (LLs) between filling factors $ν$=-6 to 6 in ABA-stacked trilayer graphene (TLG) is unknown because it depends sensitively on the non-uniform charge distribution on the three layers of ABA-stacked TLG. Using the sensitivity of quantum Hall data on the electric field and magnetic field, in an ultraclean ABA-stacked TLG sample, we quantitatively estimate the non-uniformity of the electric field and determine the sequence of the zeroth LLs. We also observe anticrossings between some LLs differing by 3 in LL index, which result from the breaking of the continuous rotational to \textit{C}$_3$ symmetry by the trigonal warping.

Two-particle spectral function for disordered s-wave superconductors: local maps and collective modes

We make the first testable predictions for the local two-particle spectral function of a disordered s-wave superconductor, probed by scanning Josephson spectroscopy (sjs), providing complementary information to scanning tunneling spectroscopy (sts). We show that sjs provides a direct map of the local superconducting order parameter that is found to be anticorrelated with the gap map obtained by sts. Furthermore, this anticorrelation increases with disorder. For the momentum resolved spectral function, we find the Higgs mode shows a non-dispersive subgap feature at low momenta, spectrally separated from phase modes, for all disorder strengths. The amplitude-phase mixing remains small at low momenta even when disorder is large. Remarkably, even for large disorder and high momenta, the amplitude-phase mixing oscillates rapidly in frequency and hence do not affect significantly the purity of the Higgs and phase dominated response functions.
