Quantum measurement of work in mesoscopic systems

Heat and work in thermodynamics refer to the measurement of changes in energy content of external bodies (baths and agents). We discuss the implications of quantum mechanics on the possibility to measure work in a mesoscopic context. The agent is a quantum entity (say an oscillator) that is used to drive the system. An obvious limitation is related to back-reaction, leading to a classical-like restriction. We find that in order to resolve fingerprints of interference an additional quantum uncertainty limitation should be taken into account in the design of the agent. The quantum limitation is fundamental, and cannot be relaxed by super-resolution techniques.

Universality and Dynamical Inequivalence in Isospectral Non-Hermitian Anderson Transitions

The Hatano Nelson paradigm establishes that extensive bulk nonreciprocity can destabilize Anderson localization via an imaginary gauge flux. Here, we demonstrate that extensive nonreciprocity is not a necessary ingredient: a single non-Hermitian boundary bond in a disordered one-dimensional ring suffices to drive the localization-delocalization transition. More generally, we construct an exactly isospectral family of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians that continuously interpolates between the uniform Hatano Nelson model and the single-bond limit. We show that the universal critical behavior encompassing spectral, eigenstate, and topological diagnostics is gauge invariant and governed solely by the total imaginary gauge flux, regardless of its spatial distribution. Remarkably, despite sharing identical spectra and critical exponents, different configurations within this isospectral family exhibit qualitatively distinct quantum dynamics, establishing a fundamental separation between static and dynamical universality in non-Hermitian systems. Specifically, the single boundary realization features rapid operator scrambling, oscillatory wavepacket acceleration, and a double re-entrant steady state entanglement transition. Finally, we propose an experimentally feasible realization based on multi-terminal topological transport, providing a realistic route toward observing boundary induced non Hermitian criticality and its unconventional dynamical signatures.

Coexistence of Anderson Localization and Quantum Scarring in Two Dimensions

We investigate finite two-dimensional disordered systems with periodic confinement. At low energies, eigenstates exhibit strong Anderson localization, while at higher energies a subset of states exhibits variational scarring with anisotropic intensity patterns that deviate from random-wave expectations. Scaling theory predicts that in two dimensions all eigenstates localize in the large-system-size limit, yet the energy-dependent localization length and finite-size effects allow these regimes to coexist. We demonstrate that this coexistence produces distinct, robust signatures in both spatial intensity patterns and spectral statistics that are directly observable in mesoscopic electronic, photonic, and cold-atom systems.

Chaos-Mediated Quantum State Discrimination Near Unit Fidelity

We investigate a ''quantum microscope'' for qubits based on nonlinear discrete-time chaotic dynamics, which exponentially amplifies the initially small fidelity of a pair of states to a large saturation value ( $\sim$ 1/2), thereby pushing the Helstrom bound to more accessible values. We show that Bell-type temporal correlations can capture even the minutest differences between two initial states, thus enabling their distinguishability. The cost of distinguishability is quantified in terms of the characteristic waiting time of the evolution, defined as the time after which the temporal correlation of a given initial state begins to diverge exponentially from that of a nearby state. The closer the two states are, the longer this waiting time becomes. By combining chaos with Bell-type temporal correlations, this approach opens unexplored avenues for pushing the limits of precision in quantum metrology.

Many-body adiabatic passage: Instability, chaos, and quantum classical correspondence

Adiabatic passage in systems of interacting bosons is substantially affected by interactions and inter-particle entanglement. We consider STIRAP-like schemes in Bose-Hubbard chains that exhibit low-dimensional chaos (a 3 site chain), and high-dimensional chaos (more than 3 sites). The dynamics that is generated by a transfer protocol exhibits striking classical and quantum chaos fingerprints that are manifest in the mean-field classical treatment, in the truncated-Wigner semiclassical treatment, and in the full many-body quantum simulations.

Characterization of hybrid quantum eigenstates in systems with mixed classical phasespace

Generic low-dimensional Hamiltonian systems feature a structured, mixed classical phase-space. The traditional Percival classification of quantum spectra into regular states supported by quasi-integrable regions and irregular states supported by quasi-chaotic regions turns out to be insufficient to capture the richness of the Hilbert space. Berry's conjecture and the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis are not applicable and quantum effects such as tunneling, scarring, and localization, do not obey the standard paradigms. We demonstrate these statements for a prototype Bose-Hubbard model. We highlight the hybridization of chaotic and regular regions from opposing perspectives of ergodicity and localization.

Fractional Conformal Map, Qubit Dynamics and the Leggett-Garg Inequality

Any pure state of a qubit can be geometrically represented as a point on the extended complex plane through stereographic projection. By employing successive conformal maps on the extended complex plane, we can generate an effective discrete-time evolution of the pure states of the qubit. This work focuses on a subset of analytic maps known as fractional linear conformal maps. We show that these maps serve as a unifying framework for a diverse range of quantum-inspired conceivable dynamics, including (i) unitary dynamics,(ii) non-unitary but linear dynamics and (iii) non-unitary and non-linear dynamics where linearity (non-linearity) refers to the action of the discrete time evolution operator on the Hilbert space. We provide a characterization of these maps in terms of Leggett-Garg Inequality complemented with No-signaling in Time (NSIT) and Arrow of Time (AoT) conditions.

Majorana zero energy modes in silicene

Zero energy modes are shown to exist in silicene under suitably chosen magnetic as well as electric fields. Two Majorana modes are found on the application of opposite local magnetization on the silicene sub-lattices. We identify a non-Majorana zero energy mode carrying pure spin current under the influence of inhomogeneous gate electric field. In both cases, wave functions reveal subtle interference pattern in phase space, showing structures finer than the Planck constant $\hbar$. A spin system coupled through spin-spin ($σ_{z}\otimesσ_{z}$) interaction with the Majorana modes exhibits periodic revival of coherence with a minimum period $\sim $1/n. The same system shows decoherence-free evolution in the case of gate electric field. Under a momentum dependent interaction, one Majorana mode having a bound state in the continuum character is found to be more robust as compared to the other. The mode arising on application of electric field shows rapid loss of coherence for such an interaction.
