Quantum bouncer: theory and experiment

The quantum bouncer (QB) concept is a known QM textbook example of confined particle, namely, a solution to the 1D Schroedinger equation for a linear potential (the so-called Airy equation). It would be a great methodological challenge to create such a QM object in laboratory. An attempt of observation of the QB ``running'' in the horizontal direction was recently made by the international team at the Laue-Langevin Institute, Grenoble. The experiment was performed with ultra-cold neutrons. In this paper, the experiment is analyzed in view of the authors' claim that ``neutron quantum states in Earth gravitational field'' are observed. The experimental apparatus is designed for measurements of horizontal flux of neutrons passing through an absorbing wave guide with a variable height of absorber. From our analysis, it follows, however, that in such a layout measured data are not sensitive to quantum probability density in the vertical direction. The overall conclusion is made that the experimental data do not contain sufficient information to justify the claim.

On observation of neutron quantum states in Earth gravitational field at Laue-Langevin Institute, Grenoble

The experiment performed with ultra-cold neutrons at the Laue-Langevin Institute, Grenoble, is analyzed in view of the claim that ``neutron quantum states in Earth gravitational field'' are observed. Our conclusion is that the above claim is neither theoretically nor experimentally substantiated. We also criticize the statement that ``observation of the gravitationally bound quantum states of neutrons and the related experimental techniques provide a unique tool for a broad range of investigations in fundamental physics of particles and fields''.

Proper Mass Variation under Gravitational and Coulomb Force Action in Relativistic Mechanics of Point Particle

The problem studied is formulated in the title: proper mass variation under gravitational and Coulomb force action in Relativistic Mechanics of point particle. The novelty is that equations of motion are obtained in the relativistic Lagrangean framework for conservative force fields under assumption of field dependent proper mass. The dependence of proper mass on field strength is derived from the equations of particle motion. The result is the elimination of a classical 1/r divergence. It is shown that a photon in a gravitational field may be described in terms of a refracting massless medium. This makes the gravity phenomenon compatible with SR Dynamic framework. New results concerning gravitational properties of particle and photon, as well as an experimental test of predicted deviation from 1/r^2 classical Coulomb force law are discussed. The conclusion is made that the approach of field-dependent proper mass is perspective for better understanding GR problems and further studies on divergence-free field theory development. Key words: Relativity; gravity; Coulomb; particle; photon; speed of light; proper mass variation. PACS: 03.30.+p, 04.20.-g

On Relativistic Generalization of Gravitational Force

On Controversies in Relativity Theory

Controversies arise when specialists disagree on some particular issue. This normally occurs in any scientific brunch. We analyze some controversies, which have a good cause in Special Relativity. The paper does not question Special Relativity Theory but it challenges changing deeply held academic beliefs about imaginary experiments in Special Relativity Theory. PACS 03.30.+p
