Lorentz Electrodynamics, Matter/Antimatter Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics

It is shown that the noncommutative Lorentz metric satisfies so-called nonpropagating waves. The long-range forces are obtained as a description of these wave motions. It leads to the natural introduction of the field values (group velocity and intensity of de Broglie waves) into Maxwell's equations and antimatter into Newtonian mechanics. One of the early predictions of the wave theory was existence of antiparticles (modes with the negative group velocity). They are attracted by ordinary matter, but repulse ordinary matter and each other gravitationally. The interaction between the two types of matter might lead to the expansion of the universe and maintain the energy reservoir for cosmic sources of intense radiation.

Nuclear Waste Transmutation in Subcritical Reactors Driven by Target-Distributed Accelerators

A radioactive waste transmutation system based extensively on existing nuclear power technology is presented. By replacing the control rods with neutron sources, we could maintain good power distribution and perform long-lived waste burning in high flux subcritical reactors. The design is based on a small pressurized water reactor, fission electric cell (FEC), target-distributed accelerator (TDA) and power monitoring system with in-core gamma-ray detectors, now under development in several countries. The TDA, in which an FEC electric field compensates for lost beam energy in the target, offers a new approach to obtain large neutron fluxes. The analysis takes into consideration a wide range of TDA design aspects including the wave model of observed relativistic phenomena, in-core microwave power source, the FEC with a multistage collector (anode) and layered cathode.

System for Nuclear Waste Transmutation Driven by Target-Distributed Accelerators

A design concept and characteristics for an epithermal breeder controlled by variable feedback and external neutron source intensity are presented. By replacing the control rods with neutron sources, we could improve safety and perform radioactive waste burning in high flux subcritical reactors (HFSR). To increase neutron source intensity the HFSR is divided into two zones: a booster and a blanket operating with solid and liquid fuels. Use of a liquid actinide fuel permits transport of the delayed-neutron emitters from the blanket to the booster where they can provide additional neutrons or all the necessary excitation. With blanket and booster multiplication factors of k=0.95 and 0.98, respectively, an external photoneutron source rate of at least 10.sup.15 n/s (electron beam power 2.5MW) is needed to control the HFSR that produces 300MWt. An inexpensive method of obtaining large neutron fluxes is target-distributed accelerators (TDA), in which a fission electrical cell (FEC) compensates for lost beam energy in the thin photon production targets. The FEC is essentially a high-voltage power source that directly converts the kinetic energy of the fission fragments into electrical potential of about 2 MV.
