Structure and arithmetic of multivariate Ore extensions

We give the basic structure of the multivariable Ore extensions $S=A[\underline{t} ; σ, \underlineδ]$ introduced in the work of Martínez-Peñas and Kschischang. The Pseudo multilinear transformations (PMT's) are introduced and correspond to modules over $S$. These maps are strongly connected to the evaluation of polynomials in $S$. A general product formula is obtained. PMT's help to put some structure on the set of roots of a polynomial $f(t) \in S$.

Intersection of linear and multi-twisted codes with applications

In this paper, we derive a formula for constructing a generator matrix for the intersection of any pair of linear codes over a finite field. Consequently, we establish a condition under which a linear code has a trivial intersection with another linear code (or its Galois dual). Furthermore, we provide a condition for reversibility and propose a generator matrix formula for the largest reversible subcode of any linear code. We then focus on the comprehensive class of multi-twisted (MT) codes, which are naturally and more effectively represented using generator polynomial matrices (GPMs). We prove that the reversed code of an MT code remains MT and derive an explicit formula for its GPM. Additionally, we examine the intersection of a pair of MT codes, possibly with different shift constants, and demonstrate that this intersection is not necessarily MT. However, when the intersection admits an MT structure, we propose the corresponding shift constants. We also establish a GPM formula for the intersection of a pair of MT codes with the same shift constants. This result enables us to derive a GPM formula for the intersection of an MT code and the Galois dual of another MT code. Finally, we examine conditions for various properties on MT codes. Perhaps most importantly, the necessary and sufficient conditions for an MT code to be Galois self-orthogonal, Galois dual-containing, Galois linear complementary dual (LCD), or reversible.

Products of Idempotents in Banach Algebras of Operators

Let $X$ be a Banach space and $\mathcal A$ be the Banach algebra $B(X)$ of bounded (i.e. continuous) linear transformations (to be called operators) on $X$ to itself. Let $\mathcal E$ be the set of idempotents in $\mathcal A$ and $\mathcal S$ be the semigroup generated by $\mathcal E$ under composition as multiplication. If $T\in \mathcal S$ with $0\ne T\ne I_{X}$ then $T$ has a local block representation of the form $\begin{pmatrix} T_1 & T_2 0 & 0 \end{pmatrix}$ on $X=Y\oplus Z$, a topological sum of non-zero closed subspaces $Y$ and $Z$ of $X$, and any $A\in \mathcal A$ has the form $\begin{pmatrix} A_1 & A_2 A_3 & A_4 \end{pmatrix}$ with $T_1,A_1 \in \mathcal B(Y)$, $T_2,A_2\in B(Z,Y), A_3\in B(Y,Z)$, and $A_4 \in \mathcal B(Z)$. The purpose of this paper is to study conditions for $T$ to be in $\mathcal{S}$.

Scalar products and Left LCD codes

In this article, we introduce new scalar products over finite rings via additive isomorphisms. This allows us to define new notions of right (respectively left) orthogonal codes, that are not necessarily linear. This leads to definitions of right (resp. left) dual codes and left LCD codes similar to the classical LCD codes. Furthermore, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of these codes.

Graphs of Commutatively Closed Sets

The present work aims to exploit the interplay between the algebraic properties of rings and the graph-theoretic structures of their associated graphs. We introduce commutatively closed graphs and investigate properties of commutatively closed subsets of a ring with the help of graph theory. A particular attention is paid to constructions of subsets of a given diameter. In particular, we compute the diameter of artinian semisimple algebras.

Regular elements determined by generalized inverses

In a semiprime ring, von Neumann regular elements are determined by their inner inverses. In particular, for elements $a,b$ of a von Neumann regular ring $R$, $a=b$ if and only if $I(a)=I(b)$, where $I(x)$ denotes the set of inner inverses of $x\in R$. We also prove that, in a semiprime ring, the same is true for reflexive inverses.

Decomposition of Singular Matrices into Idempotents

In this paper we provide concrete constructions of idempotents to represent typical singular matrices over a given ring as a product of idempotents and apply these factorizations for proving our main results. We generalize works due to Laffey (Products of idempotent matrices. Linear Multilinear A. 1983) and Rao (Products of idempotent matrices. Linear Algebra Appl. 2009) to noncommutative setting and fill in the gaps in the original proof of Rao's main theorems. We also consider singular matrices over Bézout domains as to when such a matrix is a product of idempotent matrices.

Noncommutative polynomial maps

Polynomial maps attached to polynomials of an Ore extension are naturally defi ned. In this setting we show the importance of pseudo-linear transformations and give some applications. In particular, factorizations of polynomials in an Ore extension over a fi nite fi eld F_q[t;S ], where S is the Frobenius automorphism, are translated into factorizations in the usual polynomial ring F_q[x].

Ring Endomorphisms with Large Images

The notion of ring endomorphisms having large images is introduced. Among others, injectivity and surjectivity of such endomorphisms are studied. It is proved, in particular, that an endomorphism S of a prime one-sided noetherian ring R is injective whenever the image S (R) contains an essential left ideal L of R. If additionally S(L) = L, then S is an automorphism of R. Examples showing that the assumptions imposed on R can not be weakened to R being a prime left Goldie ring are provided. Two open questions are formulated.

ADS modules

We study the class of ADS rings and modules introduced by Fuchs. We give some connections between this notion and classical notions such as injectivity and quasi-continuity. A simple ring R such that R is ADS as a right R-module must be either right self-injective or indecomposable as a right R-module. Under certain conditions we can construct a unique ADS hull up to isomorphism. We introduce the concept of completely ADS modules and characterize completely ADS semiperfect right modules as direct sum of semisimple and local modules.

On q-skew Iterated Ore Extensions Satisfying a Polynomial Identity

For iterated Ore extensions satisfying a polynomial identity we present an elementary way of erasing derivations. As a consequence we recover some results obtained by Haynal in "PI degree parity in q-skew polynomial rings" (J. Algebra 319, 2008, 4199-4221). We also prove, under mild assumptions on $R_n=R[x_1;\si_1,\de_1]...[x_n;\si_n;\de_n]$ that the Ore extension $R[x_1;\si_1]...[x_n;\si_n]$ exists and is PI if $R_n$ is PI.

Rings Over Which Cyclics are Direct Sums of Projective and CS or Noetherian

R is called a right WV -ring if each simple right R-module is injective relative to proper cyclics. If R is a right WV -ring, then R is right uniform or a right V -ring. It is shown that for a right WV-ring R, R is right noetherian if and only if each right cyclic module is a direct sum of a projective module and a CS or noetherian module. For a finitely generated module M with projective socle over a V -ring R such that every subfactor of M is a direct sum of a projective module and a CS or noetherian module, we show M = X \oplus T, where X is semisimple and T is noetherian with zero socle. In the case that M = R, we get R = S \oplus T, where S is a semisimple artinian ring, and T is a direct sum of right noetherian simple rings with zero socle. In addition, if R is a von Neumann regular ring, then it is semisimple artinian.

Wedderburn Polynomials over Division Rings

A Wedderburn polynomial over a division ring K is a minimal polynomial of an algebraic subset of K. Special cases of such polynomials include, for instance, the minimal polynomials (over the center F=Z(K)) of elements of K that are algebraic over F. In this note, we give a survey on some of our ongoing work on the structure theory of Wedderburn polynomials. Throughout the note, we work in the general setting of an Ore skew polynomial ring K[t,S,D].
