Sobolev Regularity in Mixed and Isotropic Scales for Vector Fields on the Torus

We study regularity, existence, and uniqueness of solutions to vector fields on the two-dimensional torus in Sobolev spaces of dominating mixed smoothness, which measure regularity separately in the two variables. For constant-coefficient vector fields, we obtain families of mixed smoothness estimates describing how the gain or loss of regularity can be distributed between the two variables. In the nonreal case, a gain of one derivative can be distributed between the two directions, whereas for real irrational coefficients the loss is governed by the irrationality measure of the coefficient. We also establish sharpness below the corresponding arithmetic threshold and describe the rational and Liouville obstructions. For real-valued variable coefficients, direct estimates for the periodic Fourier-mode equations yield mixed smoothness regularity results and their isotropic and classical consequences. We then use a periodic conjugation to the averaged constant-coefficient normal form. Although this conjugation introduces an additional loss in the mixed smoothness scale, it preserves isotropic Sobolev orders and therefore transfers the sharp constant-coefficient isotropic theory to the variable-coefficient setting. In the nonresonant regimes, we also obtain existence and uniqueness under the natural zero-mean compatibility condition.

Lieb-Thirring inequalities for the Dirac operator on spheres

In this paper, we obtain bounds for the best constants in two inequalities which can be seen as analogues of the Lieb-Thirring inequality, but with the Dirac operator, on the $n-$sphere. We then apply these results in order to improve the known upper bounds on the classical Lieb-Thirring constant on the $n$-sphere for $n\geq 5$.

A Fourier analysis for $(θ,T)$-periodic functions and applications

We develop a Fourier analysis for a generalization of the class of periodic functions, often referred to as $(θ, T)$-periodic functions, and prove several properties and inequalities related to the Fourier transform, including a type of Poincaré inequality, which extend the periodic case. As an application, we employ this analysis to show that a continuous linear operator acting on smooth $(θ, T)$-periodic functions is globally hypoelliptic/solvable if and only if the corresponding operator which acts on periodic functions is globally hypoelliptic/solvable, and characterize the global hypoellipticity/solvability of a class of first order differential operators acting on the set of smooth $(θ, T)$-periodic functions.

Global Hypoellipticity and Solvability with Loss of Derivatives on the Torus

This paper provides a complete characterization of global hypoellipticity and solvability with loss of derivatives for Fourier multiplier operators on the $n$-dimensional torus. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for these properties and examine their connections with classical notions of global hypoellipticity and solvability, particularly in relation to the closedness of the operator's range. As an application, we explore the interplay between these properties and number theory in the context of differential operators on the two-torus. Specifically, we prove that the loss of derivatives in the solvability of the vector field $\partial_{x_1} - α\partial_{x_2}$ is precisely determined by the well-known irrationality measure $μ(α)$ of its coefficient $α$. Furthermore, we analyze the wave operator $\partial_{x_1}^2 - η^2 Δ_{\mathbb{T}^n}$ and show how the loss of derivatives depends explicitly on the parameter $η> 0$.

Directional Poincaré inequality on compact Lie groups

We extend the directional Poincaré inequality on the torus, introduced by Steinerberger in [Ark. Mat. 54 (2016), pp. 555--569], to the setting of compact Lie groups. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such an inequality based on estimates on the eigenvalues of the global symbol of the corresponding vector field. We also prove that such refinement of the Poincaré inequality holds for a left-invariant vector field on a compact Lie group $G$ if and only if the vector field is globally solvable, and extend this equivalence to tube-type vector fields on $\mathbb{T}^1\times G$.

Global hypoellipticity of systems of Fourier multipliers on compact Lie groups

We apply the characterization of global hypoellipticity for $G$-invariant operators on homogeneous vector bundles obtained by Cardona and Kowacs [J. Pseudo-Differ. Oper. Appl. 16, 23 (2025)] to obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for an arbitrary system of left-invariant operators on a compact Lie group to be globally hypoelliptic, providing a full proof independent of the bundle structure of that paper. We then prove alternative sufficient conditions for globally hypoellipticity for a large class of particular cases of systems making use of lower bounds for the smallest singular value of complex matrices.

On the Sobolev boundedness of vector fields on compact Riemannian manifolds

We analyze the sharpness of the Sobolev order for left-invariant vector fields on compact Riemannian manifolds. Utilizing techniques from pseudo-differential operator theory and microlocal analysis, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues associated with these vector fields. As an application, we demonstrate the ill-posedness of a class of Cauchy problems involving left-invariant vector fields on compact Lie groups.

Global hypoellipticity on time-periodic Gelfand-Shilov spaces via non-discrete Fourier analysis

In this paper, we provide a characterization of the time-periodic Gelfand-Shilov spaces, as introduced by F. de Ávila Silva and M. Cappiello [J. Funct. Anal., 282(9):29, 2022], through the asymptotic behaviour of both the Euclidean and periodic partial Fourier transforms of their elements. As an application, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for global regularity -- within this framework -- for a broad class of constant-coefficient differential operators, as well as for first-order tube-type operators.

The Fourier transform in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces

In this work we define a Fourier transform for each $f\in L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R})$, for a large class of exponent functions $p(\cdot)$, as the distributional derivative of a Hölder continuous function. A norm is defined in the space of such Fourier transforms so that it is isometrically isomorphic to $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R})$. We also prove several properties of this Fourier transform, such as inversion in norm and an exchange theorem.

Fourier Analysis on $\mathbb{T}^m\times\mathbb{R}^n$ and Applications to Global Hypoellipticity

This article presents a convenient approach to Fourier analysis for the investigation of functions and distributions defined in $\mathbb{T}^m \times \mathbb{R}^n$. Our approach involves the utilization of a mixed Fourier transform, incorporating both partial Fourier series on the torus for the initial variables and partial Fourier transform in Euclidean space for the remaining variables. By examining the behaviour of the mixed Fourier coefficients, we achieve a comprehensive characterization of the spaces of fast decaying smooth functions and distributions in this context. Additionally, we apply our results to derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the Schwartz global hypoellipticity of a class of differential operators defined on $\mathbb{T} \times \mathbb{R}$, including all constant coefficient first order differential operators.

Lieb-Thirring inequalities on the spheres and $SO(3)$

In this paper, we obtain new upper bounds for the Lieb-Thirring inequality on the spheres of any dimension greater than $2$. As far as we have checked, our results improve previous results found in the literature for all dimensions greater than $2$. We also prove and exhibit an explicit new upper bound for the Lieb-Thirring inequality on $SO(3)$. We also discuss these estimates in the case of general compact Lie groups. Originally developed for estimating the sums of moments of negative eigenvalues of the Schrödinger operator in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$, these inequalities have applications in quantum mechanics and other fields.

Schwartz regularity of differential operators on the cylinder

This article presents an investigation of global properties of a class of differential operators on $\mathbb{T}^1\times\mathbb{R}$. Our approach involves the utilization of a mixed Fourier transform, incorporating both partial Fourier series on the torus and partial Fourier transform in Euclidean space. By examining the behaviour of the mixed Fourier coefficients, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the Schwartz global hypoellipticity of this class of differential operators, as well as conditions for the Schwartz global solvability of said operators.

Global solvability and hypoellipticity for evolution operators on tori and spheres

In this paper, we study the global properties of a class of evolution-like differential operator with a 0-order perturbation defined on the product of $r+1$ tori and $s$ spheres $\mathbb{T}^{r+1}\times(\mathbb{S}^{3})^s$, with $r$ and $s$ non-negative integers. By varying the values of $r$ and $s$, we show that it is possible to recover results already known in the literature and present new results. The main tool used in this study is Fourier analysis, taken partially with respect to each copy of the torus and sphere. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions related to Diophantine inequalities, change of sign and connectivity of level sets associated the operator's coefficients.
