Deriving the $\text{AdS}_3\times\text{S}^3\times \text{T}^4$ Quantum Spectral Curve II: T-system and QSC

We complete the systematic derivation of the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) for strings on $\text{AdS}_3\times\text{S}^3\times \text{T}^4$ with pure Ramond--Ramond (RR) flux, building on the extended Y-system obtained in our preceding paper. We establish the precise relation between the two formalisms of the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz and the QSC, derive the previously conjectured QSC, and, along the way, uncover additional relations satisfied by its solutions. Our analysis also clarifies how massless excitations, although not explicit among the basic QSC building blocks, are encoded in their analytic structure. The derivation culminates in the so-called $\mathbf{P}μ$-system, a compact formulation of the QSC in terms of a small set of functions and their analytic continuations.

Cusped Defects: Cusp Operator Expansion, Conformal Properties and Bootstrap Applications

We analyze general properties of cusped defect lines embedded in generic conformal field theories (CFTs). We prove that suitably defined cusp scaling operators transform like primary operators under general conformal transformations. We show that, via the cusp operator expansion (COE), defects of general shape can be expanded in a basis of cusped defects. These findings are checked and exemplified in the case of the localized magnetic field defect. Finally, we derive analytic constraints on dynamical cusp data by making use of a crossing equation, and discuss possible numerical bootstrap applications of our results.

Deriving the $\text{AdS}_3\times\text{S}^3\times \text{T}^4$ Quantum Spectral Curve I: Y-system and discontinuity relations

The mirror Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) describes the spectrum of $\text{AdS}_3\times\text{S}^3\times \text{T}^4$ superstrings supported by a mixture of Ramond-Ramond (RR) and Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz (NSNS) flux. In recent years, a conjecture was put forward regarding the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) formulation in the Ramond-Ramond case. In this paper, we initiate the derivation of the Ramond-Ramond QSC from the mirror TBA equations. We describe the Y-system underlying the TBA and its discontinuity relations for pure-RR backgrounds. This provides the foundation for the derivation of the T-system and the Quantum Spectral Curve, which will be presented in a follow-up paper.

Orthogonality of Q-Functions up to Wrapping in Planar N=4 Super Yang-Mills Theory

We construct orthogonality relations in the Separation of Variables framework for the sl(2) sector of planar N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. Specifically, we find simple universal measures that make Q-functions of operators with different spins vanish at all orders in perturbation theory, prior to wrapping corrections. To analyze this rank-one sector, we relax some of the assumptions thus far considered in the Separation of Variables framework. Our findings may serve as guidelines for extending this formalism to other sectors of the theory as well as other integrable models

On the Quantum Spectral Curve for $\text{AdS}_3\times \text{S}^3\times \text{S}^3\times \text{S}^1$ strings and the $\mathfrak{d}(2,1;α)$ Q-system

In this paper, we put forward and discuss a proposal for a Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) describing the planar spectrum of the holographic CFT dual to strings on AdS$_3\times$ S$^3\times$ S$^3\times$ S$^1$, a theory with global symmetry $\mathfrak{d}(2,1;α)^{\oplus 2}$. We focus mainly on the case when the radii of the two spheres are the same, i.e. $α= 1/2$, where the symmetry reduces to $\mathfrak{osp}(4|2)^{\oplus 2}$. In this case, our proposal is based on two copies of an $\mathfrak{osp}(4|2)$ Q-system, glued through the branch cuts of the Q-functions in a minimal way. We study in detail the ensuing analytic properties of the Q-functions in this proposal. Focusing on purely massive excitations, we consider the large worldsheet limit in which the QSC leads to a set of Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz (ABA) equations, yielding strong constraints on the (so-far unfixed) dressing factors of the worldsheet S-matrix. In a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric sector, our proposal is consistent with all previous results on the worldsheet S-matrix. However, in the non-symmetric case, we found a subtle incompatibility between the analytic constraints arising from the proposed QSC, the crossing equations present in the literature, and braiding unitarity. We discuss possible explanations for this mismatch: either our minimal QSC proposal does not hold beyond the symmetric sector, or the crossing unitarity equations receive a nontrivial correction that needs to be understood. Finally, we also propose a generalisation of the Q-system for the case of $α\neq 1/2$, corresponding to the superalgebra $\mathfrak{d}(2,1;α)$. This novel algebraic structure represents a significant step towards understanding the Quantum Spectral Curve of the entire theory.

Regge trajectories and bridges between them in integrable AdS/CFT

We study the analytic continuation in the spin of the planar spectrum of ABJM theory using the integrability-based Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) method. Under some minimal assumptions, we classify the analytic properties of the Q-functions appearing in the QSC compatible with the spin being non-integer. In this way we find not one - but $\textit{two}$ distinct possibilities. While one is related to standard Regge trajectories, we show that the second choice can be used to build bridges which connect leading and subleading Regge trajectories, thus giving a shortcut to reach infinitely many sheets of the spin Riemann surface without going explicitly around the branch points in the complex spin plane. Moreover, the bridges are exact spin reflections of standard Regge trajectories. Together, these results reveal the existence of a hidden symmetry which we call "twist/co-twist symmetry": every non-BPS local operator has an exact image - living below unitarity on a different Regge trajectory - with the same $Δ$ and the spin flipped by a Weyl reflection. We discuss how an analogous phenomenon, based on the same mechanism at the level of the QSC, also occurs at non-perturbative level in $\mathcal{N}$$=$$4$ SYM. This provides a framework to understand recent independent observations of the symmetry in this model at weak and strong coupling. We present numerical results for Regge trajectories in planar ABJM theory, in particular we compute exactly the coupling dependence of the position of the leading Regge pole in the correlator of four stress tensors. The shape of this leading trajectory shows a behaviour at weak coupling that strongly resembles the BFKL limit in $\mathcal{N}$$=$$4$ SYM.

Probing Line Defect CFT with Mixed-Correlator Bootstrability

We continue our study of the defect CFT on a Maldacena-Wilson line in N=4 Super-Yang-Mills theory using Bootstrability -- the conformal bootstrap supplemented with exact integrability data. In this paper, we extend this program to charged sectors of the theory, considering a mixed-correlator setup first introduced by Liendo, Meneghelli, and Mitev. The exact spectrum in all channels is given by integrability at any coupling. Additionally, we use exact expressions for some structure constants fixed by localisation and leverage the exact discrete symmetries of the theory. We analyse the remaining data with the numerical bootstrap, developing an algorithm optimised to scan over a large multidimensional space of OPE coefficients and carve the allowed region with the "cutting surface" procedure. We compute upper and lower bounds for 12 OPE coefficients for several values of the coupling. Our results are sharp for the lowest states in each sector but become quite wide for the excited states due to their near degeneracy. This highlights the need for studying the system with non-protected external states and for further input from integrability in the form of integrated correlators of non-protected operators.

Computing Four-Point Functions with Integrability, Bootstrap and Parity Symmetry

The combination of integrability and crossing symmetry has proven to give tight non-perturbative bounds on some planar structure constants in $\mathcal{N}$=4 SYM, particularly in the setup of defect observables built on a Wilson-Maldacena line. Whereas the precision is good for the low lying states, higher in the spectrum it drops due to the degeneracies at weak coupling when considering a single correlator. As this could be a clear obstacle in restoring higher point functions, we studied the problem of bounding directly a 4-point function at generic cross ratio, showing how to adapt for this purpose the numerical bootstrap algorithms based on semidefinite programming. Another tool we are using to further narrow the bounds is a parity symmetry descending from the $\mathcal{N}$=4 SYM theory, which allowed us to reduce the number of parameters. We also give an interpretation for the parity in terms of the Quantum Spectral Curve at weak coupling. Our numerical bounds give an accurate determination of the 4-point function for physical values of the cross ratio, with at worst 5-6 digits precision at weak coupling and reaching more than 11 digits for 't Hooft coupling $\frac{\sqrtλ}{4 π} \sim 4$.

Exploring the Quantum Spectral Curve for AdS${}_3$/CFT${}_2$

Despite the rich and fruitful history of the integrability approach to string theory on the $AdS_3\times S^3\times T^4$ background, it has not been possible to extract many concrete predictions from integrability, except in a strict asymptotic regime of large quantum numbers, due to the severity of wrapping effects. The situation changed radically with two independent and identical proposals for the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) for this system in a background of pure Ramond-Ramond flux. This formulation is expected to capture all wrapping effects exactly and describe the full planar spectrum. Massless modes conjecturally manifest themselves in a new property of this QSC: the non-quadratic nature of the branch-cut singularities of the QSC Q-functions. This feature implies new technical challenges in solving the QSC equations as compared to the well-studied case of N=4 SYM. In this paper we resolve these difficulties and obtain the first ever predictions for generic unprotected string excitations. We explain how to extract a systematic expansion around the analogue of the weak 't Hooft coupling limit in N=4 SYM and also obtain high-precision numerical results. This concrete data and others obtainable from the QSC could help to identify the so-far mysterious dual CFT.

Integrated correlators from integrability: Maldacena-Wilson line in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM

We present a systematic method for the derivation of a relation which connects the correlation function of operators on the straight Maldacena-Wilson line with the integrability data for the cusp anomalous dimension. As we show, the derivation requires very careful treatment of the UV divergences. Our method opens a way to derive infinitely many constraints on integrals of multi-point correlation functions, relating them with the integrability data for the generalised cusp anomalous dimension governed by the Quantum Spectral Curve. Such constraints have been shown recently to be very powerful in combination with the numerical conformal bootstrap, leading to very narrow non-perturbative bounds on conformal data beyond the spectrum.

Quantum Spectral Curve for AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$: a proposal

We conjecture the Quantum Spectral Curve equations for string theory on $AdS_3 \times S^3 \times T^4$ with RR charge and its CFT$_2$ dual. We show that in the large-length regime, under additional mild assumptions, the QSC reproduces the Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz equations for the massive sector of the theory, including the exact dressing phases found in the literature. The structure of the QSC shares many similarities with the previously known AdS$_5$ and AdS$_4$ cases, but contains a critical new feature - the branch cuts are no longer quadratic. Nevertheless, we show that much of the QSC analysis can be suitably generalised producing a self-consistent system of equations. While further tests are necessary, particularly outside the massive sector, the simplicity and self-consistency of our construction suggests the completeness of the QSC.

Bootstrability in Defect CFT: Integrated Correlators and Sharper Bounds

We continue to develop Bootstrability -- a method merging Integrability and Conformal Bootstrap to extract CFT data in integrable conformal gauge theories such as $\mathcal{N}$=4 SYM. In this paper, we consider the 1D defect CFT defined on a $\frac{1}{2}$-BPS Wilson line in the theory, whose non-perturbative spectrum is governed by the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC). In addition, we use that the deformed setup of a cusped Wilson line is also controlled by the QSC. In terms of the defect CFT, this translates into two nontrivial relations connecting integrated 4-point correlators to cusp spectral data, such as the Bremsstrahlung and Curvature functions -- known analytically from the QSC. Combining these new constraints and the spectrum of the $10$ lowest-lying states with the Numerical Conformal Bootstrap, we obtain very sharp rigorous numerical bounds for the structure constant of the first non-protected state, giving this observable with seven digits precision for the 't Hooft coupling in the intermediate coupling region $\frac{\sqrtλ}{4π}\sim 1$, with the error decreasing quickly at large 't Hooft coupling. Furthermore, for the same structure constant we obtain a $4$-loop analytic result at weak coupling. We also present results for excited states.

Integrability and Conformal Bootstrap: One Dimensional Defect CFT

In this letter we study how the exact non-perturbative integrability methods in 4D N=4 Super-Yang-Mills can work efficiently together with the numerical conformal bootstrap techniques to go beyond the spectral observables and access previously unreachable quantities such as correlation functions at finite coupling. In the setup of 1D defect CFT living on a Maldacena-Wilson line, we managed to compute with good precision a non-supersymmetric structure constant for a wide range of the `t Hooft coupling. Our result is particularly precise at strong coupling and matches well with the recent analytic results of Meneghelli and Ferrero.

Separation of Variables in AdS/CFT: Functional Approach for the Fishnet CFT

The major simplification in a number of quantum integrable systems is the existence of special coordinates in which the eigenstates take a factorised form. Despite many years of studies, the basis realising the separation of variables (SoV) remains unknown in N=4 SYM and similar models, even though it is widely believed they are integrable. In this paper we initiate the SoV approach for observables with nontrivial coupling dependence in a close cousin of N=4 SYM - the fishnet 4D CFT. We develop the functional SoV formalism in this theory, which allows us to compute non-perturbatively some nontrivial observables in a form suitable for numerical evaluation. We present some applications of these methods. In particular, we discuss the possible SoV structure of the one-point correlators in presence of a defect, and write down a SoV-type expression for diagonal OPE coefficients involving an arbitrary state and the Lagrangian density operator. We believe that many of the findings of this paper can be applied in the N=4 SYM case, as we speculate in the last part of the article.

Separation of variables and scalar products at any rank

Separation of variables (SoV) is a special property of integrable models which ensures that the wavefunction has a very simple factorised form in a specially designed basis. Even though the factorisation of the wavefunction was recently established for higher rank models by two of the authors and G. Sizov, the measure for the scalar product was not known beyond the case of rank one symmetry. In this paper we show how this measure can be found, bypassing an explicit SoV construction. A key new observation is that the measure for spin chains in a highest-weight infinite dimensional representation of sl(N) couples Q-functions at different nesting levels in a non-symmetric fashion. We also managed to express a large number of form factors as ratios of determinants in our new approach. We expect our method to be applicable in a much wider setup including the problem of computing correlators in integrable CFTs such as the fishnet theory, N=4 SYM and the ABJM model.

Exploring the spectrum of planar $AdS_4/CFT_3$ at finite coupling

The Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) equations for planar $\mathcal{N}=6$ super-conformal Chern-Simons (SCS) are solved numerically at finite values of the coupling constant for states in the $\mathfrak{sl}(2|1)$ sector. New weak coupling results for conformal dimensions of operators outside the $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$-like sector are obtained by adapting a recently proposed algorithm for the QSC perturbative solution. Besides being interesting in their own right, these perturbative results are necessary initial inputs for the numerical algorithm to converge on the correct solution. The non-perturbative numerical outcomes nicely interpolate between the weak coupling and the known semiclassical expansions, and novel strong coupling exact results are deduced from the numerics. Finally, the existence of contour crossing singularities in the TBA equations for the operator $\textbf{20}$ is ruled out by our analysis. The results of this paper are an important test of the QSC formalism for this model, open the way to new quantitative studies and provide further evidence in favour of the conjectured weak/strong coupling duality between $\mathcal{N}=6$ SCS and type IIA superstring theory on $AdS_4 \times CP^3$. Attached to the arXiv submission, a Mathematica implementation of the numerical method and ancillary files containing the numerical results are provided.

The full Quantum Spectral Curve for $AdS_4/CFT_3$

The spectrum of planar N=6 superconformal Chern-Simons theory, dual to type IIA superstring theory on $AdS_4 \times CP^3$, is accessible at finite coupling using integrability. Starting from the results of [arXiv:1403.1859], we study in depth the basic integrability structure underlying the spectral problem, the Quantum Spectral Curve. The new results presented in this paper open the way to the quantitative study of the spectrum for arbitrary operators at finite coupling. Besides, we show that the Quantum Spectral Curve is embedded into a novel kind of Q-system, which reflects the OSp(4|6) symmetry of the theory and leads to exact Bethe Ansatz equations. The discovery of this algebraic structure, more intricate than the one appearing in the $AdS_5/CFT_4$ case, could be a first step towards the extension of the method to $AdS_3/CFT_2$.

Quantum Spectral Curve and Structure Constants in N=4 SYM: Cusps in the Ladder Limit

We find a massive simplification in the non-perturbative expression for the structure constant of Wilson lines with 3 cusps when expressed in terms of the key Quantum Spectral Curve quantities, namely Q-functions. Our calculation is done for the configuration of 3 cusps lying in the same plane with arbitrary angles in the ladders limit. This provides strong evidence that the Quantum Spectral Curve is not only a highly efficient tool for finding the anomalous dimensions but also encodes correlation functions with all wrapping corrections taken into account to all orders in the `t Hooft coupling. We also show how to study the insertions of scalars coupled to the Wilson lines and extend our results for the spectrum and the structure constants to this case. We discuss an OPE expansion of two cusps in terms of these states. Our results give additional support to the Separation of Variables strategy in solving the planar N=4 SYM theory.
