Weighted Sobolev Inequalities via the Meyers--Ziemer Framework: Measures, Isoperimetric Inequalities, and Endpoint Estimates

We establish a new global endpoint Sobolev inequality for measures that extends the classical theorem of Meyers-Ziemer by placing a maximal function on the right-hand side. This result has several significant consequences. It extends naturally to functions of weighted bounded variation and yields corresponding capacity and isoperimetric inequalities. The inequality is also closely connected to endpoint estimates for fractional operators, including bounds for fractional maximal functions and Hardy space endpoint estimates for the Riesz potential. Our main inequality yields a family of endpoint inequalities, characterized in terms of subrepresentation formulas, Lorentz space improvements, and isoperimetric inequalities for measures and bounded open sets. When one moves away from the endpoint to $p>1$, the analogous inequalities no longer hold in general; however, we identify a sharp bumped maximal function for which the corresponding non-endpoint inequality is valid. Finally, we show that this framework yields new $(p,p)$ two-weight Sobolev inequalities.

Sharp embeddings between weighted Paley-Wiener spaces

In this paper we address the problem of estimating the operator norm of the embeddings between multidimensional weighted Paley-Wiener spaces. These can be equivalently thought as Fourier uncertainty principles for bandlimited functions. By means of radial symmetrization mechanisms, we show that such problems can all be shifted to dimension one. We provide precise asymptotics in the general case and, in some particular situations, we are able to identify the sharp constants and characterize the extremizers. The sharp constant study is actually a consequence of a more general result we prove in the setup of de Branges spaces of entire functions, addressing the operator given by multiplication by $z^k$, $k \in \mathbb{N}$. Applications to sharp higher order Poincaré inequalities and other related extremal problems are discussed.

Two-weight extrapolation on function spaces and applications

This paper is devoted to studying the extrapolation theory of Rubio de Francia on general function spaces. We present endpoint extrapolation results including $A_1$, $A_p$, and $A_\infty$ extrapolation in the context of Banach function spaces, and also on modular spaces. We also include several applications that can be easily obtained using extrapolation: local decay estimates for various operators, Coifman--Fefferman inequalities that can be used to show some known sharp $A_1$ inequalities, Muckenhoupt--Wheeden and Sawyer's conjectures are also presented for many operators, which go beyond Calderón--Zygmund operators. Finally, we obtain two-weight inequalities for Littlewood--Paley operators and Fourier integral operators on weighted Banach function spaces.

Fourier decay of self-similar measures on the complex plane

We prove that the Fourier transform of self-similar measures on the complex plane has fast decay outside of a very sparse set of frequencies, with quantitative estimates, extending the results obtained in the real line, first by R. Kaufman, and later, with quantitative bounds, by the first author and P. Shmerkin. Also we derive several applications concerning correlation dimension and Frostman exponent of these measures. Furthermore, we present a generalization for a particular case on $\mathbb{R}^n,$ with $n\ge3.$

Extrapolation for multilinear compact operators and applications

This paper is devoted to studying the Rubio de Francia extrapolation for multilinear compact operators. It allows one to extrapolate the compactness of $T$ from just one space to the full range of weighted spaces, whenever an $m$-linear operator $T$ is bounded on weighted Lebesgue spaces. This result is indeed established in terms of the multilinear Muckenhoupt weights $A_{\vec{p}, \vec{r}}$, and the limited range of the $L^p$ scale. To show extrapolation theorems above, by means of a new weighted Fréchet-Kolmogorov theorem, we present the weighted interpolation for multilinear compact operators. To prove the latter, we also need to bulid a weighted interpolation theorem in mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces. As applications, we obtain the weighted compactness of commutators of many multilinear operators, including multilinear $ω$-Calderón-Zygmund operators, multilinear Fourier multipliers, bilinear rough singular integrals and bilinear Bochner-Riesz means. Beyond that, we establish the weighted compactness of higher order Calderón commutators, and commutators of Riesz transforms related to Schrödinger operators.

Off-diagonal estimates for cube skeletons maximal operators

We provide off-diagonal estimates for a maximal operator arising from a geometric problem of estimating the size of certain geometric configuration of k- skeletons in $\mathbb{R}^n$. This is achieved by interpolating a weak-type endpoint estimate with the known diagonal bounds. The endpoint estimate is proved by combining a geometric result about k-skeletons and adapting an argument used to prove off-diagonal estimates for the circular maximal function in the plane.

Elliptic measures and Square function estimates on 1-sided chord-arc domains

In nice environments, such as Lipschitz or chord-arc domains, it is well-known that the solvability of the Dirichlet problem for an elliptic operator in $L^p$, for some finite $p$, is equivalent to the fact that the associated elliptic measure belongs to the Muckenhoupt class $A_\infty$. In turn, any of these conditions occurs if and only if the gradient of every bounded null solution satisfies a Carleson measure estimate. This has been recently extended to much rougher settings such as those of 1-sided chord-arc domains, that is, sets which are quantitatively open and connected with a boundary which is Ahlfors-David regular. In this paper, we work in the same environment and consider a qualitative analog of the latter equivalence showing that one can characterize the absolute continuity of the surface measure with respect to the elliptic measure in terms of the finiteness almost everywhere of the truncated conical square function for any bounded null solution. As a consequence of our main result particularized to the Laplace operator and some previous results, we show that the boundary of the domain is rectifiable if and only if the truncated conical square function is finite almost everywhere for any bounded harmonic function. Also, we obtain that for two given elliptic operators $L_1$ and $L_2$, the absolute continuity of the surface measure with respect to the elliptic measure of $L_1$ is equivalent to the same property for $L_2$ provided the disagreement of the coefficients satisfy some quadratic estimate in truncated cones for almost everywhere vertex. Finally for the case on which $L_2$ is either the transpose of $L_1$ or its symmetric part we show the equivalence of the corresponding absolute continuity upon assuming that the antisymmetric part of the coefficients has some controlled oscillation in truncated cones for almost every vertex.

Breaking simple quantum position verification protocols with little entanglement

Instantaneous nonlocal quantum computation (INQC) evades apparent quantum and relativistic constraints and allows to attack generic quantum position verification (QPV) protocols (aiming at securely certifying the location of a distant prover) at an exponential entanglement cost. We consider adversaries sharing maximally entangled pairs of qudits and find low-dimensional INQC attacks against the simple practical family of QPV protocols based on single photons polarized at an angle $θ$. We find exact attacks against some rational angles, including some sitting outside of the Clifford hierarchy (e.g. $π/6$), and show no $θ$ allows to tolerate errors higher than $\simeq 5\cdot 10^{-3}$ against adversaries holding two ebits per protocol's qubit.

Weighted estimates for maximal functions associated to skeletons

We provide quantitative weighted estimates for the $L^p(w)$ norm of a maximal operator associated to cube skeletons in $\mathbb{R}^n$. The method of proof differs from the usual in the area of weighted inequalities since there are no covering arguments suitable for the geometry of skeletons. We use instead a combinatorial strategy that allows to obtain, after a linearization and discretization, $L^p$ bounds for the maximal operator from an estimate related to intersections between skeletons and $k$-planes.

Investigating the optimality of ancilla-assisted linear optical Bell measurements

In the last decade Grice and Ewert and van Loock found linear optical networks achieving near-unit efficiency unambiguous Bell state discrimination, when fed with increasingly complex ancillary states. However, except for the vacuum ancilla case, the optimality of these schemes is unknown. Here, the optimality of these networks is investigated through analytical and numerical means. We show an analytical upper bound to the success probability for interferometers that preserve the polarization of the input photons, saturated by both Grice's and Evert-van Loock's strategies. Furthermore, such an upper bound links the complexity of their ancilla states with the scaling of their performance. We also show a computer-aided approach to the optimization of such measurement schemes for generic interferometers, by simulating an optical network supplied with various kinds of ancillary input states. We numerically confirms the optimality of known small schemes. We use both methods to investigate other ancilla states, some of them never studied before.

Maximal Operators for cube skeletons

We study discretized maximal operators associated to averaging over (neighborhoods of) squares in the plane and, more generally, $k$-skeletons in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Although these operators are known not to be bounded on any $L^p$, we obtain nearly sharp $L^p$ bounds for every small discretization scale. These results are motivated by, and partially extend, recent results of T. Keleti, D. Nagy and P. Shmerkin, and of R. Thornton, on sets that contain a scaled $k$-sekeleton of the unit cube with center in every point of $\mathbb{R}^n$.
