Almost sharp lower bound for the nodal volume of harmonic functions

This paper focuses on a relation between the growth of harmonic functions and the Hausdorff measure of their zero sets. Let $u$ be a real-valued harmonic function in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $u(0)=0$ and $n\geq 3$. We prove $$\mathcal{H}^{n-1}(\{u=0\} \cap B(0,2)) \gtrsim_{\varepsilon} N^{1-\varepsilon},$$ where the doubling index $N$ is a notion of growth defined by $$ \sup_{B(0, 1)}|u| = 2^N \sup_{B(0,\frac{1}{2})}|u|.$$ This gives an almost sharp lower bound for the Hausdorff measure of the zero set of $u$, which is conjectured to be linear in $N$. The new ingredients of the article are the notion of stable growth, and a multi-scale induction technique for a lower bound for the distribution of the doubling index of harmonic functions. It gives a significant improvement over the previous best-known bound $\mathcal{H}^{n-1}\left(\{u=0\} \cap 2B\right)\geq \exp (c \log N/\log\log N )$, which implied Nadirashvili's conjecture.

On the universality of the Nazarov-Sodin constant

We study the number of connected components of non-Gaussian random spherical harmonics on the two dimensional sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$. We prove that the expectation of the nodal domains count is independent of the distribution of the coefficients provided it has a finite second moment.

Nodal set of monochromatic waves satisfying the Random Wave Model

We construct deterministic solutions to the Helmholtz equation in $\mathbb{R}^m$ which behave accordingly to the Random Wave Model. We then find the number of their nodal domains, their nodal volume and the topologies and nesting trees of their nodal set in growing balls around the origin. The proof of the pseudo-random behaviour of the functions under consideration hinges on a de-randomisation technique pioneered by Bourgain and proceeds via computing their $L^p$-norms. The study of their nodal set relies on its stability properties and on the evaluation of their doubling index, in an average sense.

Asymptotic nodal length and log-integrability of toral eigenfunctions

We study the nodal set of Laplace eigenfunctions on the flat $2d$ torus $\mathbb{T}^2$. We prove an asymptotic law for the nodal length of such eigenfunctions, under some growth assumptions on their Fourier coefficients. Moreover, we show that their nodal set is asymptotically equidistributed on $\mathbb{T}^2$. The proofs are based on Bourgain's de-randomisation technique and the main new ingredient, which might be of independent interest, is the integrability of arbitrarily large powers of the doubling index of Laplace eigenfunctions on $\mathbb{T}^2$, based on the work of Nazarov \cite{N93,Nun}.

Spectral quasi correlations and phase-transitions for the nodal length of Arithmetic Random Waves

Spectral quasi correlations are small sums of lattice points lying on the same circle; we show that, for generic integers representable as the sum of two squares, there are no spectral quasi-correlations. Moreover, we apply our result to study the nodal length of Arithmetic Random Waves at small scales: we show that there exists a phase-transition for the distribution of the nodal length at a logarithmic power above Planck-scale. Furthermore, we give strong evidence for the existence of an intermediate phase between Arithmetic and Berry's random waves.

Expected nodal volume for non-Gaussian random band-limited functions

The asymptotic law for the expected nodal volume of random non-Gaussian monochromatic band-limited functions is determined in vast generality. Our methods combine microlocal analytic techniques and modern probability theory. A particularly challenging obstacle needed to overcome is the possible concentration of nodal volume on a small proportion of the manifold, requiring solutions in both disciplines. As for the fine aspects of the distribution of nodal volume, such as its variance, it is expected that the non-Gaussian monochromatic functions behave qualitatively differently compared to their Gaussian counterpart, with some conjectures been put forward.

On the behavior of nodal lines near the boundary for Laplace eigenfunctions on the square

We are interested in the effect of Dirichlet boundary conditions on the nodal length of Laplace eigenfunctions. We study random Gaussian Laplace eigenfunctions on the two dimensional square and find a two terms asymptotic expansion for the expectation of the nodal length in any square of side larger than the Planck scale, along a denisty one sequence of energy levels. The proof relies on a new study of lattice points in small arcs, and shows that the said expectation is independent of the position of the square, giving the same asymptotic expansion both near and far from the boundaries.

Planck-scale number of nodal domains for toral eigenfunctions

We study the number of nodal domains in balls shrinking slightly above the Planck scale for "generic" toral eigenfunctions. We prove that, up to the natural scaling, the nodal domains count obeys the same asymptotic law as the global number of nodal domains. The proof, on one hand, uses new arithmetic information to refine Bourgain's de-randomisation technique at Planck scale. And on the other hand, it requires a Planck scale version of Yau's conjecture which we believe to be of independent interest.

Mass distribution for toral eigenfunctions via Bourgain's de-randomisation

We study the problem of mass distribution of Laplacian eigenfunctions in shrinking balls for the standard flat torus $\mathbb{T}^2=\mathbb{R}^2/\mathbb{Z}^2$. By averaging over the centre of the ball we use Bourgain's de-randomisation to compare the mass-distribution of toral eigenfunctions at Plank scale to the mass distribution of random waves in growing balls around the origin. We are then able to classify all possible limiting distributions and variances. Finally we give sufficient and necessary conditions so that the mass of \textquotedblleft generic \textquotedblright eigenfunction equidistributes at Plank scale in almost all balls.

Least primitive root and simultaneous power-non residues

Let $p$ be a prime and let $g(p)$ be the least primitive root modulo $p$. We prove that for any $ε>0$ and $p$ large enough the bound \begin{align} g(p)\ll p^{\frac{1}{4\sqrt{e}}+ε} \nonumber \end{align} holds for most prime $p$ such that $p-1$ does not have small prime factors, but $2$. We also give an explicit description of the exceptional set.
