Modelling Multiplicative Linear Logic via Deep Inference

Multiplicative linear logic is a very well studied formal system, and most such studies are concerned with the one-sided sequent calculus. In this paper we look in detail at existing translations between a deep inference system and the standard sequent calculus one, provide a simplified translation, and provide a formal proof that a standard approach to modelling is indeed invariant to all these translations. En route we establish a necessary condition for provable sequents related to the number of pars and tensors in a formula that seems to be missing from the literature.

A Category Theoretic Interpretation of Gandy's Principles for Mechanisms

Based on Gandy's principles for models of computation we give category-theoretic axioms describing locally deterministic updates to finite objects. Rather than fixing a particular category of states, we describe what properties such a category should have. The computation is modelled by a functor that encodes updating the computation, and we give an abstract account of such functors. We show that every updating functor satisfying our conditions is computable.

Constructing Fully Complete Models of Multiplicative Linear Logic

The multiplicative fragment of Linear Logic is the formal system in this family with the best understood proof theory, and the categorical models which best capture this theory are the fully complete ones. We demonstrate how the Hyland-Tan double glueing construction produces such categories, either with or without units, when applied to any of a large family of degenerate models. This process explains as special cases a number of such models from the literature. In order to achieve this result, we develop a tensor calculus for compact closed categories with finite biproducts. We show how the combinatorial properties required for a fully complete model are obtained by this glueing construction adding to the structure already available from the original category.
