Rigidity of higher Auslander algebras of type $\mathbb{A}$

We show that the Hochschild cohomology of higher Auslander algebras of type $\mathbb{A}$ vanishes in all positive degrees and is one-dimensional in degree zero. As a consequence, these algebras are rigid and intrinsically formal.

Hochschild cohomology of graded skew-gentle algebras: Gerstenhaber algebra structure and geometric interpretation

In this paper we calculate the Hochschild cohomology of graded skew-gentle algebras, together with its structure as graded commutative algebra under the cup product and its Lie algebra structure given by the Gerstenhaber bracket. One of the results of this paper is that for graded skew-gentle algebras and thus also for partially wrapped Fukaya categories of orbifold surfaces with stops, their Hochschild cohomology is encoded in the underlying graded surface.

Algebraic versions of $\mathbb{T}^2$ and of $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$ and Hochschild cohomology

We examine the Hochschild cohomology for triangular algebras that capture some aspects of geometry and topology of the torus and of the quadric surface, and for deformations of these algebras. In particular, this shows that the cup product on the Hochschild cohomology of a triangular algebra does not generally follow the intuition coming from monomial algebras. Our examples also demonstrate that the Hochschild cohomology of a deformation of an algebra may not experience the dimension drop but still have a different cup product structure, and that the Hochschild cohomologies of deformations of two derived equivalent algebras may exhibit noticeably different behaviours.

Happel's question, Han's conjecture and $\tau$-Hochschild (co)homology

We introduce the $\tau$-Hochschild (co)homology of a finite dimensional associative algebra $\Lambda$ by means of the higher Auslander-Reiten translate of O. Iyama. We show that the global dimension of $\Lambda$, Happel's question and Han's conjecture are related to the $\tau$-Hochschild (co)homology.

The Hochschild cohomology ring of monomial algebras

We give an explicit description of a diagonal map on the Bardzell resolution for any monomial algebra, and we use this diagonal map to describe the cup product on Hochschild cohomology. Then, we prove that the cup product is zero in positive degrees for triangular monomial algebras. Our proof uses the graded-commutativity of the cup product on Hochschild cohomology and does not rely on explicit computation of the Hochschild cohomology modules.

On the first $\tau$-tilting Hochschild cohomology of an algebra

In this paper we introduce, according to one of the main ideas of $\tau$-tilting theory, the $\tau$-Hochschild cohomology in degree one of a finite dimensional $k$-algebra $\Lambda$, where $k$ is a field. We define the excess of $\Lambda$ as the difference between the dimensions of the $\tau$-Hochschild cohomology in degree one and the dimension of the usual Hochschild cohomology in degree one. One of the main results is that for a zero excess bound quiver algebra $\Lambda=kQ/I$, the Hochschild cohomology in degree two $\mathsf{HH}^2(\Lambda) $ is isomorphic to the space of morphisms $\mathsf{Hom}_{kQ-kQ}(I/I^2, \Lambda).$ This is useful to determine when $\mathsf{HH}^2(\Lambda)=0$ for these algebras. We compute the excess for hereditary, radical square zero and monomial triangular algebras. For a bound quiver algebra $\Lambda$, a formula for the excess of $\Lambda$ is obtained. We also give a criterion for $\Lambda$ to be $\tau$-rigid.

The Hochschild cohomology and the Tamarkin-Tsygan calculus of gentle algebras

The Tamarkin Tsygan calculus of a finite dimensional algebra is a differential calculus given by the comprehensive data of the Hochschild cohomology, its structure both as a graded commutative algebra under the cup product and as a graded Lie algebra under the Gerstenhaber bracket, together with the Hochschild homology and its module structure over the Hochschild cohomology given by the cap product as well as the Connes differential. In this paper, we calculate the whole of the Tamarkin Tsygan calculus for the class of gentle algebras. Apart from some isolated calculations, this is, to our knowledge, the first complete calculation of this calculus for a family of finite dimensional algebras. Gentle algebras appear in many different areas of mathematics such as the theory of cluster algebras, N=2 gauge theories and homological mirror symmetry of surfaces. For the latter Haiden-Katzarkov-Kontsevich show that the partially wrapped Fukaya category of a graded surface is triangle equivalent to the perfect derived category of a graded gentle algebra. Thus the symplectic cohomology of the surface should be linked to the Hochschild cohomology of the gentle algebra. We give a description of how this connection might be visualised, in that, we show how these structures are encoded in the geometric surface model of the bounded derived category associated to a gentle algebra via its ribbon graph. Finally, we show how to recover structural results for a gentle algebra given its Tamarkin-Tsygan calculus.

Strongly stratifying ideals, Morita contexts and Hochschild homology

We consider stratifying ideals of finite dimensional algebras in relation with Morita contexts. A Morita context is an algebra built on a data consisting of two algebras, two bimodules and two morphisms. For a strongly stratifying Morita context - or equivalently for a strongly stratifying ideal - we show that Han's conjecture holds if and only if it holds for the diagonal subalgebra. The main tool is the Jacobi-Zariski long exact sequence. One of the main consequences is that Han's conjecture holds for an algebra admitting a strongly (co-)stratifying chain whose steps verify Han's conjecture. If Han's conjecture is true for local algebras and an algebra admits a primitive strongly (co-)stratifying chain, then Han's conjecture holds for it.

Graded braided commutativity in Hochschild cohomology

We prove the graded braided commutativity of the Hochschild cohomology of $A$ with trivial coefficients, where $A$ is a braided Hopf algebra in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over the group algebra of an abelian group, under some finiteness conditions on a projective resolution of $A$ as $A$-bimodule. This is a generalization of a result by Mastnak, Pevtsova, Schauenburg and Witherspoon to a context which includes Nichols algebras such as the Jordan and the super Jordan plane. We prove this result by constructing a coduoid-up-to-homotopy structure on the aforementioned projective resolution in the duoidal category of chain complexes of $A$-bimodules. We also prove that the Hochschild complex of a braided bialgebra $A$ in an arbitrary braided monoidal category is a cocommutative comonoid up to homotopy with the deconcatenation product which induces the cup product in Hochschild cohomology.

A cup-cap duality in Koszul calculus

We introduce a cup-cap duality in the Koszul calculus of N-homogeneous algebras. As an application, we prove that the graded symmetry of the Koszul cap product is a consequence of the graded commutativity of the Koszul cup product. We propose a conceptual approach that may lead to a proof of the graded commutativity, based on derived categories in the framework of DG algebras and DG bimodules. Various enriched structures are developed in a weaker situation corresponding to N>2.

Han's conjecture for bounded extensions

Let $B\subset A$ be a left or right bounded extension of finite dimensional algebras. We use the Jacobi-Zariski long nearly exact sequence to show that $B$ satisfies Han's conjecture if and only if $A$ does, regardless if the extension splits or not. We provide conditions ensuring that an extension by arrows and relations is left or right bounded. Finally we give a structure result for extensions of an algebra given by a quiver and admissible relations, and examples of non split left or right bounded extensions.

Jacobi-Zariski long nearly exact sequences for associative algebras

For an extension of associative algebras $B\subset A$ over a field and an $A$-bimodule $X$, we obtain a Jacobi-Zariski long nearly exact sequence relating the Hochschild homologies of $A$ and $B$, and the relative Hochschild homology, all of them with coefficients in $X$. This long sequence is exact twice in three. There is a spectral sequence which converges to the gap of exactness.

The first Hochschild cohomology as a Lie algebra

In this paper we study sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology of a finite dimensional algebra as a Lie algebra in terms of its Ext-quiver in arbitrary characteristic. In particular, we show that if the quiver has no parallel arrows and no loops then the first Hochschild cohomology is solvable. For quivers containing loops, we determine easily verifiable sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology. We apply these criteria to show the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology space for large families of algebras, namely, several families of self-injective tame algebras including all tame blocks of finite groups and some wild algebras including most quantum complete intersections.

On the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology of gentle algebras and Brauer graph algebras

In this paper we determine the first Hochschild homology and cohomology with different coefficients for gentle algebras and we give a geometrical interpretation of these (co)homologies using the ribbon graph of a gentle algebra as defined in earlier work by the second author. We give an explicit description of the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology of gentle and Brauer graph algebras (with multiplicity one) based on trivial extensions of gentle algebras and we show how the Hochschild cohomology is encoded in the Brauer graph. In particular, we show that except in one low-dimensional case, the resulting Lie algebras are all solvable.

The first Hochschild (co)homology when adding arrows to a bound quiver algebra

We provide a formula for the change of the dimension of the first Hoch\-schild cohomology vector space of bound quiver algebras when adding new arrows. For this purpose we show that there exists a short exact sequence which relates the first cohomology vector spaces of the algebras to the first relative cohomology. Moreover, we show that the first Hochschild homologies are isomorphic when adding new arrows.

Lie structure on the Hochschild cohomology of a family of subalgebras of the Weyl algebra

For each nonzero $h\in \mathbb{F}[x]$, where $\mathbb{F}$ is a field, let $\mathsf{A}_h$ be the unital associative algebra generated by elements $x,y$, satisfying the relation $yx-xy = h$. This gives a parametric family of subalgebras of the Weyl algebra $\mathsf{A}_1$, containing many well-known algebras which have previously been studied independently. In this paper, we give a full description the Hochschild cohomology $\mathsf{HH}^\bullet(\mathsf{A}_h)$ over a field of arbitrary characteristic. In case $\mathbb{F}$ has positive characteristic, the center of $\mathsf{A}_h$ is nontrivial and we describe $\mathsf{HH}^\bullet(\mathsf{A}_h)$ as a module over its center. The most interesting results occur when $\mathbb{F}$ has characteristic $0$. In this case, we describe $\mathsf{HH}^\bullet(\mathsf{A}_h)$ as a module over the Lie algebra $\mathsf{HH}^1(\mathsf{A}_h)$ and find that this action is closely related to the intermediate series modules over the Virasoro algebra. We also determine when $\mathsf{HH}^\bullet(\mathsf{A}_h)$ is a semisimple $\mathsf{HH}^1(\mathsf{A})$-module.
