Goldstone boson currents in a kaon condensed CFL phase

We study the stability of the kaon condensed color-flavor locked (CFL) phase of dense quark matter with regard to the formation of a non-zero Goldstone boson current. In the kaon condensed phase there is an electrically charged fermion which becomes gapless near μ_s^(1) \simeq 1.35Δand a neutral fermion which becomes gapless near μ_s^(2)\simeq 1.61Δ. Here, μ_s=m_s^2/(2p_F) is the shift in the Fermi energy due to the strange quark mass m_s and Δis the gap in the chiral limit. The transition to the gapless phase is continuous at μ_s^(1) and first order at μ_s^(2). We find that the magnetic screening masses are real in the regime μ_s< μ_s^(2), but some screening masses are imaginary for μ_s> μ_s^(2). We show that there is a very weak current instability for μ_s>μ_s^(1) and a more robust instability in a small window near μ_s^(2). We also show that in the Goldstone boson current phase all components of the magnetic screening mass are real. There is a range of values of μ_s below 2Δin which the magnetic gluon screening masses are imaginary but the phase is stable with respect to electrically neutral fluctuations of the gauge field.

Chromomagnetic stability of the CFL phase with a meson current

We show that the color-flavor locked (CFL) phase of dense quark matter is unstable with respect to the formation of a Goldstone boson current in the vicinity of the point $m_s^2=2μΔ$. In this Goldstone boson current phase all components of the magnetic screening mass are real.

Thermodynamics of QCD at large quark chemical potential

We review the existing weak-coupling results on the thermodynamic potential of deconfined QCD at small and large quark chemical potential and compare with results from lattice gauge theory as well as the exactly solvable case of large-N_f QCD. We also discuss the new analytical results on non-Fermi-liquid effects in entropy and specific heat as well as in dispersion laws of quark quasiparticles at large quark chemical potential.

Aspects of cold dense quark matter

This thesis is devoted to properties of quark matter at high density and (comparatively) low temperature, which might exist in the interior of compact stars. The specific heat and the quark self energy in normal quark matter are discussed in detail. In particular higher order corrections to the known leading order results are obtained. Also the phenomenon of color superconductivity is discussed, with particular emphasis on the proof of gauge independence of the fermionic quasiparticle dispersion laws. Moreover, the expectation value of the gluon field in the 2SC and CFL phase is computed at leading order.

Resummed one-loop gluonic contributions to the color superconducting color charge density vanish

It is shown that gluonic corrections to the tadpole diagrams vanish in the 2SC and CFL phases at the order where one might have expected NLO corrections. This implies that the gluonic part of the color charge density is negligible at the order of our computation. This statement remains true after inclusion of the gluon vertex correction and contributions from Nambu-Goldstone bosons.
