A Riemann-Roch theorem for Frobenius quotients

We construct two families of commutative Frobenius rings: discrete and continuous Frobenius quotients $K_f$, resp. $A_g$, which are defined as the quotients of shift, resp. differential operator algebras by the annihilator of a polynomial. These constructions model the numerical $K$-rings and Chow rings of smooth complete varieties. We show that there is a naturally defined isomorphism $\mathbb{Q} K_f \cong \mathbb{Q} A_g$ playing the role of the Chern character, precisely when the polynomials satisfy a combinatorial analogue of the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch theorem, which states that there exists an invertible element $\mathrm{td} \in \mathbb{Q} A_g^\times$, called the Todd class, such that $f = \mathrm{td} \cdot g$. In this case we show that $K_f$ carries all the structure needed to make it a suitable model for $K$-rings of complete smooth varieties: $K_f$ is a $\lambda$-ring, has well-defined Chern classes, determinants, and satisfies a combinatorial analogue of Serre duality. We further show that the construction is functorial and obtain a combinatorial analogue of the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem. Lastly, we investigate the existence of larger families of isomorphisms between Frobenius quotients defined by the action of a power series on a generating set, such as the truncated Chern character which yields an integral isomorphism $K_f \cong A_g$. We provide numerous examples and applications: we give a new formula for computing Snapper polynomials of matroids, show that the dualizing class of $K_f$ coincides with dualizing classes of matroids and linear families of polytopes, realize $K$-rings of toric variety bundles as Frobenius quotients, and study $K$-rings of Ehrhart fans as well as exceptional isomorphisms in this setting.

Minuscule Coxeter Dressians

In this extended abstract, we study special tropical prevarieties which we call Coxeter Dressians. They arise from equations capturing a generalization of valuated symmetric basis exchange for Coxeter matroids. In particular, we study subdivisions of the associated Coxeter matroid polytopes. We show that the subdivisions induced by points of the Coxeter Dressian consist of cells which are strong Coxeter matroidal. This generalizes well-known results in type $A$ to other Lie types. Finally, we implement explicit computations of Coxeter Dressians in OSCAR.

Tropical reductive groups and principal bundles on metric graphs

We propose an elementary tropical analogue of a reductive group that combines the datum of a Weyl group and the tropicalization of a fixed maximal torus. For the classical groups, as well as $G_2$, these tropical reductive groups admit descriptions as tropical matrix groups that resemble their classical counterparts. Employing this perspective, we introduce tropical principal bundles on metric graphs and study their explicit presentations as pushforwards of line bundles along covers with symmetries and extra data. Our main result identifies the essential skeleton of the moduli space of semistable principal bundles on a Tate curve with its tropical analogue.

Reinforcement Learning-Based Closed-Loop Airfoil Flow Control

We systematically investigated a reinforcement learning (RL)-based closed-loop active flow control strategy to enhance the lift-to-drag ratio of a wing section with an NLF(1)-0115 airfoil at an angle of attack 5 degree. The effects of key control parameters, including actuation location, observed state, reward function, and control update interval, are evaluated at a chord-based Reynolds number of Re=20,000. Results show that all parameters significantly influence control performance, with the update interval playing a particularly critical role. Properly chosen update intervals introduce a broader spectrum of actuation frequencies, enabling more effective interactions with a wider range of flow structures and contributing to improved control effectiveness. The optimally trained RL controller is further evaluated in a three-dimensional numerical setup at the same Reynolds number. Actuation is applied using both spanwise-uniform and spanwise-varying control profiles. The results demonstrate that the pretrained controller, combined with a physics-informed spanwise distribution, achieves substantial performance gains. These findings extend the feasibility and scalability of a pretrained RL-based control strategy to more complex airfoil flows.

The log Grothendieck ring of varieties

We define a Grothendieck ring of varieties for log schemes. It is generated by one additional class ``$P$'' over the usual Grothendieck ring. We show the na\"ive definition of log Hodge numbers does not make sense for all log schemes. We offer an alternative that does.

Tropicalization of $\psi$ classes

Under suitable conditions on a family of logarithmic curves, we endow the tropicalization of the family with an affine structure in a neighborhood of the sections in such a way that the tropical $\psi$ classes from \cite{psi-classes} arise as tropicalizations of algebraic $\psi$ classes.

Semi-homogeneous vector bundles on abelian varieties: moduli spaces and their tropicalization

Let $A$ be an abelian variety with totally degenerate reduction over a non-Archimedean field. We describe the moduli space of semihomogeneous vector bundles on $A$ from the perspective of non-Archimedean uniformization and show that the essential skeleton may be identified with a tropical analogue of this moduli space. For $H=0$ our moduli space may be identified with the moduli space $M_{0,r}(A)$ of semistable vector bundles with vanishing Chern classes on $A$. In this case we construct a surjective analytic morphism from the character variety of the analytic fundamental group of $A$ onto $M_{0,r}(A)$, which naturally tropicalizes. One may view this construction as a non-Archimedean uniformization of $M_{0,r}(A)$.

Factoring multivariate polynomials over hyperfields and the multivariable Descartes' problem

We develop several notions of multiplicity for linear factors of multivariable polynomials over different arithmetics (hyperfields). The key example is multiplicities over the hyperfield of signs, which encapsulates the arithmetic of $\mathbf{R}/\mathbf{R}_{>0}$. These multiplicities give us various upper and lower bounds on the number of linear factors with a given sign pattern in terms of the signs of the coefficients of the factored polynomial. Using resultants, we can transform a square system of polynomials into a single polynomial whose multiplicities give us bounds on the number of positive solutions to the system. In particular, we are able to re-derive the lower bound of Itenberg and Roy on any potential upper bound for the number of solutions to a system of equations with a given sign pattern. In addition, our techniques also explain a particular counterexample of Li and Wang to Itenberg and Roy's proposed upper bound.

Principal bundles on metric graphs: the $\mathrm{GL}_n$ case

Using the notion of a root datum of a reductive group $G$ we propose a tropical analogue of a principal $G$-bundle on a metric graph. We focus on the case $G=\mathrm{GL}_n$, i.e. the case of vector bundles. Here we give a characterization of vector bundles in terms of multidivisors and use this description to prove analogues of the Weil--Riemann--Roch theorem and the Narasimhan--Seshadri correspondence. We proceed by studying the process of tropicalization. In particular, we show that the non-Archimedean skeleton of the moduli space of semistable vector bundles on a Tate curve is isomorphic to a certain component of the moduli space of semistable tropical vector bundles on its dual metric graph.

Cycles, cocycles, and duality on tropical manifolds

We prove a Poincaré duality for the Chow rings of smooth fans whose support are tropical linear spaces. As a consequence, we show that cycles and cocycles on tropical manifolds are Poincaré dual to each other. This allows us to define pull-backs of tropical cycles along arbitrary morphisms with smooth target.

Tropical $\psi$ classes

We introduce a tropical geometric framework that allows us to define $\psi$ classes for moduli spaces of tropical curves of arbitrary genus. We prove correspondence theorems between algebraic and tropical $\psi$ classes for some one-dimensional families of genus-one tropical curves.

Tautological cycles on tropical Jacobians

The classical Poincar\'e formula relates the rational homology classes of tautological cycles on a Jacobian to powers of the class of Riemann theta divisor. We prove a tropical analogue of this formula. Along the way, we prove several foundational results about real tori with integral structures (and, therefore, tropical abelian varieties). For example, we prove a tropical version of the Appell-Humbert theorem. We also study various notions of equivalences between tropical cycles and their relation to one another.

A sheaf-theoretic approach to tropical homology

We introduce a sheaf-theoretic approach to tropical homology, especially for tropical homology with potentially non-compact supports. Our setup is suited to study the functorial properties of tropical homology, and we show that it behaves analogously to classical Borel-Moore homology in the sense that there are proper push-forwards, cross products, and cup products with tropical cohomology classes, and that it satisfies identities like the projection formula and the Künneth theorem. Our framework allows for a natural definition of the tropical cycle class map, which we show to be a natural transformation. Finally, we prove Poincaré-Verdier duality over the integers on tropical manifolds.

Effective divisor classes on metric graphs

We introduce the notion of semibreak divisors on metric graphs (tropical curves) and prove that every effective divisor class (of degree at most the genus) has a semibreak divisor representative. This appropriately generalizes the notion of break divisors (in degree equal to genus). Our method of proof is new, even for the special case of break divisors. We provide an algorithm to efficiently compute such semibreak representatives. Semibreak divisors provide the tool to establish some basic properties of effective loci inside Picard groups of metric graphs. We prove that effective loci are pure-dimensional polyhedral sets. We also prove that a `generic' divisor class (in degree at most the genus) has rank zero, and that the Abel-Jacobi map is `birational' onto its image. These are analogues of classical results for Riemann surfaces.

Refined Tropicalizations for Schön Subvarieties of Tori

We introduce a relative refined $χ_y$-genus for schön subvarieties of algebraic tori. These are rational functions of degree minus the codimension with coefficients in the ring of lattice polytopes. We prove that the relative refined $χ_y$ turns sufficiently generic intersections into products, and that we can recover the ordinary $χ_y$-genus by counting lattice points. Applying the tropical Chern character to the relative refined $χ_y$-genus we obtain a refined tropicalization which is a tropical cycle having rational functions with $\mathbb Q$-coefficients as weights. We prove that the top-dimensional component of the refined tropicalization specializes to the unrefined tropicalization up to sign when setting $y=0$ and show that we can recover the $χ_y$-genus by integrating the refined tropicalization with respect to a Todd measure.

Intersection Theory on Linear Subvarieties of Toric Varieties

We give a complete description of the cohomology ring $A^*(\overline Z)$ of a compactification of a linear subvariety $Z$ of a torus in a smooth toric variety whose fan $Σ$ is supported on the tropicalization of $Z$. It turns out that cocycles on $\overline Z$ canonically correspond to Minkowski weights on $Σ$ and that the cup product is described by the intersection product on the tropical matroid variety $\operatorname{Trop}(Z)$.

Correspondence Theorems via Tropicalizations of Moduli Spaces

We show that the moduli spaces of irreducible labeled parametrized marked rational curves in toric varieties can be embedded into algebraic tori such that their tropicalizations are the analogous tropical moduli spaces. These embeddings are shown to respect the evaluation morphisms in the sense that evaluation commutes with tropicalization. With this particular setting in mind we prove a general correspondence theorem for enumerative problems which are defined via "evaluation maps" in both the algebraic and tropical world. Applying this to our motivational example we reprove Nishinou and Siebert's correspondence theorem using tropical intersection theory.

Intersection Theory on Tropicalizations of Toroidal Embeddings

We show how to equip the cone complexes of toroidal embeddings with additional structure that allows to define a balancing condition for weighted subcomplexes. We then proceed to develop the foundations of an intersection theory on cone complexes including push-forwards, intersections with tropical divisors, and rational equivalence. These constructions are shown to have an algebraic interpretation: Ulirsch's tropicalizations of subvarieties of toroidal embeddings carry natural multiplicities making them tropical cycles, and the induced tropicalization map for cycles respects push-forwards, intersections with boundary divisors, and rational equivalence. As an application we prove a correspondence between the genus 0 tropical descendant Gromov-Witten invariants introduced by Markwig and Rau and the genus 0 logarithmic descendant Gromov-Witten invariants of toric varieties.
