$F_K/F_\pi$ as a precision test of a new four flavor Domain Wall Fermion action

We present a new set of lattice QCD ensembles with four flavors of smeared M\"obius Domain Wall Fermions with good chiral symmetry and small fifth-dimensional extent. A modest amount of computing resources was sufficient to generate 30 publicly-available ensembles spanning five lattice spacings and a broad range of pion masses down to physical. To scrutinize our action we determine $F_{K^{\pm}}/F_{\pi^{\pm}} = 1.1962(34)$, a key quantity for precision CKM unitarity tests, heralding a future of inexpensive high-precision calculations of hadronic observables with chiral fermions.

Monodromy action of mirror stops for toric Calabi-Yau surfaces

Mirror symmetry predicts an action by the fundamental group of a conjectural stringy K\"ahler moduli space on the derived category of an algebraic variety. For a toric variety, a model for this space is understood, but constructing the action is still an open problem in general. We propose that this action can be studied on the $A$-side via a moduli space of Legendrians isotopic to the FLTZ Legendrian. For the $A_{n-1}$ singularity, we construct an annular braid-group action on the corresponding partially wrapped Fukaya category by exact autoequivalences. The standard braid subgroup recovers the Seidel--Thomas action on the derived category, while the additional annular generator corresponds to tensor product with $\mathcal O(-1)$. We additionally extend the Floer-theoretic approach to homological mirror symmetry for toric varieties to the setting of semiprojective toric Deligne--Mumford stacks over an arbitrary field.

The geometric Merkurjev-Panin Conjecture for the Cox category

We show that a strong version of the geometric Merkurjev-Panin conjecture holds for the Cox category of a projective toric variety. That is, we prove that the full strong exceptional collection of Bondal-Thomsen line bundles is invariant under the group of lattice automorphisms that permute the rays of the toric variety's fan. Our result is meant to further illustrate that the Cox category is a natural repository for homological algebra on toric varieties.

Strata of toric hyperplane arrangements, zonotope lattice points, and the Bondal-Thomsen collection

We show that strata of oriented toric hyperplane arrangements are in bijection with a collection of lattice points in a zonotope. Moreover, we relate the dimension of the stratum and the dimension of the minimal face of the zonotope containing the corresponding lattice point. We discuss how this correspondence is related to toric varieties and the Bondal-Thomsen generators of their derived categories.

Quarkonium Spectroscopy in the Quark-Gluon Plasma

The properties of bound states are fundamental to hadronic spectroscopy and play a central role in the transition from hadronic matter to a quark-gluon plasma (QGP). In a strongly coupled QGP (sQGP), the interplay of temperature, binding energy and large collisional widths of the partons poses formidable challenges in evaluating the in-medium properties of hadronic states and their eventual melting. In particular, the existence of heavy quarkonia in the QGP is a long-standing problem that is hard to solve by considering their spectral properties on the real-energy axis. We address this problem by analyzing in-medium thermodynamic quarkonium $T$-matrices in the complex energy plane. We first validate this method in vacuum, where the $T$-matrix poles of observed states are readily identified. When deploying this approach to recent self-consistently calculated $T$-matrices in the QGP, we find that poles in the complex energy plane can persist to surprisingly large temperatures, depending on the strength of the in-medium interactions. While the masses and widths of the pole positions are precisely defined, the notion of a binding energy is not due to the absence of thresholds caused by the (large) widths of the underlying anti-/quark spectral functions. Our method thus provides a new and definitive quantum-mechanical criterion to determine the melting temperature of hadronic states in the sQGP while increasing the accuracy in the theoretical determination of transport parameters.

King's Conjecture and the Cox category

We state and prove a realization of King's Conjecture for a category glued from the derived categories of all of the toric varieties arising from a given Cox ring. Our perspective extends ideas of Beilinson and Bondal to all semiprojective toric varieties.

Rational points of fixed denominator in real toric arrangements

We give a sufficient condition on a positive integer $m$ for every stratum of a given real toric hyperplane arrangement to contain a rational point of denominator $m$. As a consequence, we give a sufficient condition on $m$ for the degree $m$ Frobenius pushforward of the structure sheaf on a smooth toric variety to contain all possible summands in the Picard group.

Homological mirror symmetry for Batyrev mirror pairs

We prove Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry conjecture for a large class of mirror pairs of Calabi--Yau hypersurfaces in toric varieties. These mirror pairs were constructed by Batyrev from dual reflexive polytopes. The theorem holds in characteristic zero and in all but finitely many positive characteristics.

Integrality of mirror maps and arithmetic homological mirror symmetry for Greene--Plesser mirrors

We prove the `integrality of Taylor coefficients of mirror maps' conjecture for Greene--Plesser mirror pairs as a natural byproduct of an arithmetic refinement of homological mirror symmetry. We also prove homological mirror symmetry for Greene--Plesser mirror pairs in all characteristics such that the B-side family has good reduction, generalizing work of the fifth author and Smith over the complex numbers. A key technical ingredient is a new versality argument which allows us to work throughout over a Novikov-type ring with integer coefficients.

A short computation of the Rouquier dimension for a cycle of projective lines

Given a dg category $\mathcal C$, we introduce a new class of objects (weakly product bimodules) in $\mathcal C^{op}\otimes \mathcal C$ generalizing product bimodules. We show that the minimal generation time of the diagonal by weakly product bimodules provides an upper bound for the Rouquier dimension of $\mathcal C$. As an application, we give a purely algebro-geometric proof of a result of Burban and Drozd that the Rouquier dimension of the derived category of coherent sheaves on an $n$-cycle of projective lines is one. Our approach explicitly gives the generator realizing the minimal generation time.

Relating categorical dimensions in topology and symplectic geometry

We study several notions of dimension for (pre-)triangulated categories naturally arising from topology and symplectic geometry. We prove new bounds on these dimensions and raise several questions for further investigation. For instance, we relate the Rouquier dimension of the wrapped Fukaya category of either the cotangent bundle of a smooth manifold $M$ or more generally a Weinstein domain $X$ to quantities of geometric interest. These quantities include the minimum number of critical values of a Morse function on $M$, the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category of $M$, the number of distinct action values of a Hamiltonian diffeomorphism of $X$, and the smallest $n$ such that $X$ admits a Weinstein embedding into $\mathbb{R}^{2n+1}$. Along the way, we introduce a notion of the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category for dg-categories and construct exact Lagrangian cobordisms for restriction to a Liouville subdomain.

Resolutions of toric subvarieties by line bundles and applications

Given any toric subvariety $Y$ of a smooth toric variety $X$ of codimension $k$, we construct a length $k$ resolution of $\mathcal O_Y$ by line bundles on $X$. Furthermore, these line bundles can all be chosen to be direct summands of the pushforward of $\mathcal O_X$ under the map of toric Frobenius. The resolutions are built from a stratification of a real torus that was introduced by Bondal and plays a role in homological mirror symmetry. As a corollary, we obtain a virtual analogue of Hilbert's syzygy theorem for smooth projective toric varieties conjectured by Berkesch, Erman, and Smith. Additionally, we prove that the Rouquier dimension of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a toric variety is equal to the dimension of the variety, settling a conjecture of Orlov for these examples. We also prove Bondal's claim that the pushforward of the structure sheaf under toric Frobenius generates the derived category of a smooth toric variety and formulate a refinement of Uehara's conjecture that this remains true for arbitrary line bundles.

Aspects of functoriality in homological mirror symmetry for toric varieties

We study homological mirror symmetry for toric varieties, exploring the relationship between various Fukaya-Seidel categories which have been employed for constructing the mirror to a toric variety. In particular, we realize tropical Lagrangian sections as objects of a partially wrapped category and construct a Lagrangian correspondence mirror to the inclusion of a toric divisor. As a corollary, we prove that tropical sections generate the Fukaya-Seidel category, completing a Floer-theoretic proof of homological mirror symmetry for projective toric varieties. In the course of the proof, we develop techniques for constructing Lagrangian cobordisms and Lagrangian correspondences in Liouville domains, which may be of independent interest.

Two-nucleon S-wave interactions at the $SU(3)$ flavor-symmetric point with $m_{ud}\simeq m_s^{\rm phys}$: a first lattice QCD calculation with the stochastic Laplacian Heaviside method

We report on the first application of the stochastic Laplacian Heaviside method for computing multi-particle interactions with lattice QCD to the two-nucleon system. Like the Laplacian Heaviside method, this method allows for the construction of interpolating operators which can be used to construct a positive definite set of two-nucleon correlation functions, unlike nearly all other applications of lattice QCD to two nucleons in the literature. It also allows for a variational analysis in which optimal linear combinations of the interpolating operators are formed that couple predominantly to the eigenstates of the system. Utilizing such methods has become of paramount importance in order to help resolve the discrepancy in the literature on whether two nucleons in either isospin channel form a bound state at pion masses heavier than physical, with the discrepancy persisting even in the $SU(3)$-flavor symmetric point with all quark masses near the physical strange quark mass. This is the first in a series of papers aimed at resolving this discrepancy. In the present work, we employ the stochastic Laplacian Heaviside method without a hexaquark operator in the basis at a lattice spacing of $a\sim0.086$~fm, lattice volume of $L=48a\simeq4.1$~fm and pion mass $m_\pi\simeq714$ MeV. With this setup, the observed spectrum of two-nucleon energy levels strongly disfavors the presence of a bound state in either the deuteron or dineutron channel.

Including Tetraquark Operators in the Low-Lying Scalar Meson Sectors in Lattice QCD

Lattice QCD allows us to probe the low-lying hadron spectrum in finite-volume using a basis of single- and multi-hadron interpolating operators. Here we examine the effect of including tetraquark operators on the spectrum in the scalar meson sectors containing the $K_0^*(700)$ ($\kappa$) and the $a_0(980)$ in $N_f = 2 + 1$ QCD, with $m_\pi \approx 230$ MeV. Preliminary results of additional finite-volume states found using tetraquark operators are shown, and possible implications of these states are discussed.

Spectroscopy From The Lattice: The Scalar Glueball

Lattice calculations allow us to probe the low-lying, non-perturbative spectrum of QCD using first principles numerical methods. Here we present the low-lying spectrum in the scalar sector with vacuum quantum numbers including, in fully dynamical QCD for the first time, the mixing between glueball, q-qbar, and meson-meson operators.

Two- and three-pion finite-volume spectra at maximal isospin from lattice QCD

We present the three-pion spectrum with maximal isospin in a finite volume determined from lattice QCD, including excited states in addition to the ground states across various irreducible representations at zero and nonzero total momentum. The required correlation functions, from which the spectrum is extracted, are computed using a newly implemented algorithm which speeds up the computation by more than an order of magnitude. On a subset of the data we extract a nonzero value of the three-pion threshold scattering amplitude using the $1/L$ expansion of the three-particle quantization condition, which consistently describes all states at zero total momentum. The finite-volume spectrum is publicly available to facilitate further explorations within the available three-particle finite-volume approaches.

The $H$ dibaryon from lattice QCD with SU(3) flavor symmetry

We show recent results from the Mainz group using $N_f = 2 + 1$ CLS ensembles generated at the $SU(3)$ symmetric point. Temporal correlation functions using two-baryon interpolating operators are calculated with the distillation method. In addition to the spin-0 operators relevant for studying the $H$ dibaryon, we added spin-1 operators to our basis, thereby extending our results to other flavor sectors. These preliminary results show a finite-volume energy below the $\Lambda \Lambda$ threshold. Further calculations are necessary to establish whether the $H$ dibaryon is bound at the physical point.
