Regularity of limit sets of Anosov representations

In this paper we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the limit set of a projective Anosov representation to be a differentiable submanifold of projective space with Holder continuous derivatives. We also calculate the optimal value of the Holder constant in terms of the eigenvalue data of the Anosov representation.

Bi-Lipschitz rigidity of discrete subgroups

We obtain a bi-Lipschitz rigidity theorem for a Zariski dense discrete subgroup of a connected simple real algebraic group. As an application, we show that any Zariski dense discrete subgroup of a higher rank semisimple algebraic group $G$ cannot have a $C^1$-smooth slim limit set in $G/P$ for any non-maximal parabolic subgroup $P$.

Relatively Anosov representations via flows II: examples

This is the second in a series of two papers that develops a theory of relatively Anosov representations using the original "contracting flow on a bundle" definition of Anosov representations introduced by Labourie and Guichard-Wienhard. In this paper we focus on building families of examples.

Convex co-compact representations of 3-manifold groups

A representation of a finitely generated group into the projective general linear group is called convex co-compact if it has finite kernel and its image acts convex co-compactly on a properly convex domain in real projective space. We prove that the fundamental group of a closed irreducible orientable 3-manifold can admit such a representation only when the manifold is geometric (with Euclidean, Hyperbolic, or Euclidean $\times$ Hyperbolic geometry) or when every component in the geometric decomposition is hyperbolic. In each case, we describe the structure of such examples.

Patterson-Sullivan measures for transverse subgroups

We study Patterson-Sullivan measures for a class of discrete subgroups of higher rank semisimple Lie groups, called transverse groups, whose limit set is well-defined and transverse in a partial flag variety. This class of groups includes both Anosov and relatively Anosov groups, as well as all discrete subgroups of rank one Lie groups. We prove an analogue of the Hopf-Tsuji-Sullivan dichotomy and then use this dichotomy to prove a variant of Burger's Manhattan curve theorem. We also use the Patterson-Sullivan measures to obtain conditions for when a subgroup has critical exponent strictly less than the original transverse group. These gap results are new even for Anosov groups.

Smooth equivalence of families of strongly pseudoconvex domains

We establish a smoothness result for families of biholomorphisms between smooth families of strongly pseudoconvex domains, each with trivial biholomorphism group. This is accomplished by considering the Riemannian geometry of their Bergman metrics and proving a result about the smoothness of families of isometries between smooth families of Riemannian manifolds.

Relatively Anosov representations via flows I: theory

This is the first in a series of two papers that develops a theory of relatively Anosov representations using the original "contracting flow on a bundle" definition of Anosov representations introduced by Labourie and Guichard-Wienhard. In this paper we will mostly focus on general theory while in the second paper we will focus on examples. In the case of relatively hyperbolic groups, this bundle construction involves several choices: the model Gromov-hyperbolic space the group acts on and the norms on the fibers of the bundle. We use the properties of these bundles to define a subclass of nicely behaved relatively Anosov representations, which we call uniformly relatively Anosov. We also prove a stability result.

The structure of relatively hyperbolic groups in convex real projective geometry

In this paper we prove a general structure theorem for relatively hyperbolic groups (with arbitrary peripheral subgroups) acting naive convex co-compactly on properly convex domains in real projective space. We also establish a characterization of such groups in terms of the existence of an invariant collection of closed unbounded convex subsets with good isolation properties. This is a real projective analogue of results of Hindawi-Hruska-Kleiner for ${\rm CAT}(0)$ spaces. We also obtain an equivariant homeomorphism between the Bowditch boundary of the group and a quotient of the ideal boundary.

Unbounded visibility domains, the end compactification, and applications

In this paper we study when the Kobayashi distance on a Kobayashi hyperbolic domain has certain visibility properties, with a focus on unbounded domains. "Visibility" in this context is reminiscent of visibility, seen in negatively curved Riemannian manifolds, in the sense of Eberlein-O'Neill. However, we do not assume that the domains studied are Cauchy-complete with respect to the Kobayashi distance, as this is hard to establish for domains in $\mathbb{C}^d$, $d \geq 2$. We study the various ways in which this property controls the boundary behavior of holomorphic maps. Among these results is a Carathéodory-type extension theorem for biholomorphisms between planar domains, notably: between infinitely-connected domains. We also explore connections between our visibility property and Gromov hyperbolicity of the Kobayashi distance.

The geometry of domains with negatively pinched Kähler metrics

We study how the existence of a negatively pinched Kähler metric on a domain in complex Euclidean space restricts the geometry of its boundary. In particular, we show that if a convex domain admits a complete Kähler metric, with pinched negative holomorphic bisectional curvature outside a compact set, then the boundary of the domain does not contain any complex subvariety of positive domain. Moreover, if the boundary of the domain is smooth, then it is of finite type in the sense of D'Angelo. We also use curvature to provide a characterization of strong pseudoconvexity amongst convex domains. In particular, we show that a convex domain with $C^{2,α}$ boundary is strongly pseudoconvex if and only if it admits a complete Kähler metric with sufficiently tight pinched negative holomorphic sectional curvature outside a compact set.

Cusped Hitchin representations and Anosov representations of geometrically finite Fuchsian groups

We develop a theory of Anosov representation of geometrically finite Fuchsian groups in SL(d,R) and show that cusped Hitchin representations are Borel Anosov in this sense. We establish analogues of many properties of traditional Anosov representations. In particular, we show that our Anosov representations are stable under type-preserving deformations and that their limit maps vary analytically. We also observe that our Anosov representations fit into the previous frameworks of relatively Anosov and relatively dominated representations developed by Kapovich-Leeb and Zhu.

Subelliptic estimates from Gromov hyperbolicity

In this paper we prove: if the complete Kähler-Einstein metric on a bounded convex domain (with no boundary regularity assumptions) is Gromov hyperbolic, then the $\bar{\partial}$-Neumann problem satisfies a subelliptic estimate. This is accomplished by constructing bounded plurisubharmonic function whose Hessian grows at a certain rate (which implies a subelliptic estimate by work of Catlin and Straube). We also provide a characterization of Gromov hyperbolicity in terms of orbit of the domain under the group of affine transformations. This characterization allows us to construct many examples. For instance, if the Hilbert metric on a bounded convex domain is Gromov hyperbolic, then the Kähler-Einstein metric is as well.

A metric analogue of Hartogs' theorem

In this paper we prove a metric version of Hartogs' theorem where the holomorphic function is replaced by a locally symmetric Hermitian metric. As an application, we prove that if the Kobayashi metric on a strongly pseudoconvex domain with $\mathcal{C}^2$ smooth boundary is a Kähler metric, then the universal cover of the domain is the unit ball.

Projective Anosov representations, convex cocompact actions, and rigidity

In this paper we show that many projective Anosov representations act convex cocompactly on some properly convex domain in real projective space. In particular, if a non-elementary word hyperbolic group is not commensurable to a non-trivial free product or the fundamental group of a closed hyperbolic surface, then any projective Anosov representation of that group acts convex cocompactly on some properly convex domain in real projective space. We also show that if a projective Anosov representation preserves a properly convex domain, then it acts convex cocompactly on some (possibly different) properly convex domain. We then give three applications. First, we show that Anosov representations into general semisimple Lie groups can be defined in terms of the existence of a convex cocompact action on a properly convex domain in some real projective space (which depends on the semisimple Lie group and parabolic subgroup). Next, we prove a rigidity result involving the Hilbert entropy of a projective Anosov representation. Finally, we prove a rigidity result which shows that the image of the boundary map associated to a projective Anosov representation is rarely a $C^2$ submanifold of projective space. This final rigidity result also applies to Hitchin representations.

Convex co-compact actions of relatively hyperbolic groups

In this paper we consider discrete groups in ${\rm PGL}_d(\mathbb{R})$ acting convex co-compactly on a properly convex domain in real projective space. For such groups, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the group to be relatively hyperbolic in terms of the geometry of the convex domain. This answers a question of Danciger-Guéritaud-Kassel and is analogous to a result of Hruska-Kleiner for ${\rm CAT}(0)$ spaces.

Hankel operators on domains with bounded intrinsic geometry

In this paper we consider Hankel operators on domains with bounded intrinsic geometry. For these domains we characterize the $L^2$-symbols where the associated Hankel operator is compact (respectively bounded) on the space of square integrable holomorphic functions.
