Extended Hubbard model on fractals: d-Wave superconductivity and competing pairing channels

Fractal structures such as the Sierpiński gasket have been predicted to enhance the critical temperature of s-wave superconductivity compared to regular crystals while maintaining macroscopic phase coherence of Cooper pairs. Here we extend this analysis to order parameters with non-trivial symmetry by studying the extended Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor attraction on fractal lattices. Using Bogoliubov-de Gennes mean-field theory, we find that the Sierpiński carpet dramatically alters the competition between pairing channels: the predominant d-wave superconducting dome at half filling of the square lattice becomes unstable for the carpet, while at high and low fillings extended s-wave pairing gets strongly enhanced. We attribute this to geometric frustration of sign-changing order parameters by the fractal boundary structure. On the triangular Sierpiński gasket, hybrid s+d+id states show critical temperature enhancement comparable to that previously observed for pure s-wave pairing. Our results demonstrate that fractal geometry acts as a selective filter for pairing symmetries, with the compatibility between order parameter structure and lattice topology determining which channels are stabilized or suppressed.

Tunable phonon-driven magnon-magnon entanglement at room temperature

We report the existence of entangled steady-states in bipartite quantum magnonic systems at elevated temperatures. We consider dissipative dynamics of two magnon modes in a bipartite antiferromagnet, subjected to interaction with a phonon mode and an external rotating magnetic field. To quantify the bipartite magnon-magnon entanglement, we use entanglement negativity and compute its dependence on temperature and magnetic field. We provide evidence that the coupling between magnon and phonon modes is necessary for the entanglement, and that, for any given phonon frequency and magnon-phonon coupling rate, there are always ranges of the magnetic field amplitudes and frequencies for which magnon-magnon entanglement persists at room temperature.

Thermally-induced magnetic order from glassiness in elemental neodymium

Temperature in thermodynamics is synonymous with disorder, and responsible for ultimately destroying ordered phases. Here, we show an unusual magnetic transition where, with increasing the temperature of elemental neodymium, long-range multi-Q magnetic order emerges from a self-induced spin glass. Using temperature-dependent spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy, we characterize the local Q order in the spin-Q glass phase and quantify the emergence of long-range multi-Q order with increasing temperature. We develop two distinct analysis tools, which enable the quantification of the glass transition temperature, based on measured spatially-dependent magnetization. We compare these observations with atomic spin dynamics simulations, which reproduce the qualitative observation of a phase transition from a low-temperature spin glass phase to an intermediate ordered multi-Q phase. These simulations trace the origin of the unexpected high temperature order in weakened frustration driven by temperature-dependent sublattice correlations. These findings constitute an example of order from disorder and provide a rich platform to study magnetization dynamics in a self-induced spin glass.

Hierarchy of magnon entanglement in antiferromagnets

Continuous variable entanglement between magnon modes in Heisenberg antiferromagnet with Dzyaloshinskii-Moryia (DM) interaction is examined. Different bosonic modes are identified, which allows to establish a hierarchy of magnon entanglement in the ground state. We argue that entanglement between magnon modes is determined by a simple lattice specific factor, together with the ratio of the strengths of the DM and Heisenberg exchange interactions, and that magnon entanglement can be detected by means of quantum homodyne techniques. As an illustration of the relevance of our findings for possible entanglement experiments in the solid state, a typical antiferromagnet with the perovskite crystal structure is considered, and it is shown that long wave length magnon modes have the highest degree of entanglement.

Non-perturbative emergence of non-Fermi liquid behaviour in $d=2$ quantum critical metals

We consider the planar local patch approximation of $d=2$ fermions at finite density coupled to a critical boson. In the quenched or Bloch-Nordsieck approximation, where one takes the limit of fermion flavors $N_f\rightarrow 0$, the fermion spectral function can be determined {exactly}. We show that one can obtain this non-perturbative answer thanks to a specific identity of fermionic two-point functions in the planar local patch approximation. The resulting spectrum is that of a non-Fermi liquid: quasiparticles are not part of the exact fermionic excitation spectrum of the theory. Instead one finds continuous spectral weight with power law scaling excitations as in a $d=1$ dimensional critical state. Moreover, at low energies there are three such excitations at three different Fermi surfaces, two with a low energy Green's function $G \sim (ω-v_*k)^{-1/2}$ and one with $G \sim |ω+k|^{-1/3}$.

Holographic dual of a time machine

We apply the $AdS/CFT$ holography to the simplest possible eternal time machine solution in $AdS_3$ based on two conical defects moving around their center of mass along a circular orbit. Closed timelike curves in this space-time extend all the way to the boundary of $AdS_3$, violating causality of the boundary field theory. By use of the geodesic approximation we address the "grandfather paradox" in the dual $1+1$ dimensional field theory and calculate the two-point retarded Green function. It has a non-trivial analytical structure both at negative and positive times, providing us with an intuition on how an interacting quantum field could behave once causality is broken. In contrast with the previous considerations our calculations reveal the possibility of a consistent and controllable evolution of a quantum system without any need to impose additional consistency constraints.

Pairing induced superconductivity in holography

We study pairing induced superconductivity in large $N$ strongly coupled systems at finite density using holography. In the weakly coupled dual gravitational theory the mechanism is conventional BCS theory. An IR hard wall cut-off is included to ensure that we can controllably address the dynamics of a single confined Fermi surface. We address in detail the interplay between the scalar order parameter field and fermion pairing. Adding an explicitly dynamical scalar operator with the same quantum numbers as the fermion-pair, the theory experiences a BCS/BEC crossover controlled by the relative scaling dimensions. We find the novel result that this BCS/BEC crossover exposes resonances in the canonical expectation value of the scalar operator. This occurs not only when the scaling dimension is degenerate with the Cooper pair, but also with that of higher derivative paired operators. We speculate that a proper definition of the order parameter which takes mixing with these operators into account stays finite nevertheless.

Holographic Thermalization from Kerr-AdS

We study thermalization of a strongly coupled theory holographically dual to a thin shell of null dust with non-zero angular momentum collapsing to Kerr-AdS. We calculate thermalization time for two point correlation functions. It happens that in the 3-dimensional case the thermalization time is just proportional to the distance between points where the correlator is evaluated. This is a very surprising and rather unexpected generalization of the same relation in the case of zero momentum.
