Lattice gauge ensembles and data management

We summarize the status of lattice QCD ensemble generation efforts and their data management characteristics. Namely, these proceedings combine the contributions to a dedicated parallel session during the 41st International Symposium on Lattice Field Theory (Lattice 2024), during which representatives of 16 lattice QCD collaborations provided details on their simulation program, with focus on plans for publication, data management, and storage requirements. The parallel session was organized by the International Lattice Data Grid (ILDG), following an open call to the lattice QCD community for participation in the session.

Strongly interacting matter in extreme magnetic fields

Magnetic fields are ubiquitous across different physical systems of current interest; from the early Universe, compact astrophysical objects and heavy-ion collisions to condensed matter systems. A proper treatment of the effects produced by magnetic fields during the dynamical evolution of these systems, can help to understand observables that otherwise show a puzzling behavior. Furthermore, when these fields are comparable to or stronger than \Lambda_QCD, they serve as excellent probes to help elucidate the physics of strongly interacting matter under extreme conditions of temperature and density. In this work we provide a comprehensive review of recent developments on the description of QED and QCD systems where magnetic field driven effects are important. These include the modification of meson static properties such as masses and form factors, the chiral magnetic effect, the description of anomalous transport coefficients, superconductivity in extreme magnetic fields, the properties of neutron stars, the evolution of heavy-ion collisions, as well as effects on the QCD phase diagram. We describe recent theory and phenomenological developments using effective models as well as LQCD methods. The work represents a state-of-the-art review of the field, motivated by presentations and discussions during the "Workshop on Strongly Interacting Matter in Strong Electromagnetic Fields" that took place in the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas (ECT*) in the city of Trento, Italy, September 25-29, 2023.

Machine learning approaches to the QCD transition

We study the high temperature transition in pure $SU(3)$ gauge theory and in full QCD with 3D-convolutional neural networks trained as parts of either unsupervised or semi-supervised learning problems. Pure gauge configurations are obtained with the MILC public code and full QCD are from simulations of $N_f=2+1+1$ Wilson fermions at maximal twist. We discuss the capability of different approaches to identify different phases using as input the configurations of Polyakov loops. To better expose fluctuations, a standardized version of Polyakov loops is also considered.

Gluon propagators in QC$_2$D at high baryon density

We study the transverse and longitudinal gluon propagators in the Landau-gauge lattice QCD with gauge group $SU(2)$ at nonzero quark chemical potential and zero temperature. We show that both propagators demonstrate substantial dependence on the quark chemical potential. This observation contradicts to earlier findings by other groups.

Temperature dependence of shear viscosity of $SU(3)$--gluodynamics within lattice simulation

In this paper we study the shear viscosity temperature dependence of $SU(3)$--gluodynamics within lattice simulation. To do so, we measure the correlation functions of energy-momentum tensor in the range of temperatures $T/T_c\in [0.9, 1.5]$. To extract the values of shear viscosity we used two approaches. The first one is to fit the lattice data with some physically motivated ansatz for the spectral function with unknown parameters and then determine shear viscosity. The second approach is to apply the Backus-Gilbert method which allows to extract shear viscosity from the lattice data nonparametrically. The results obtained within both approaches agree with each other. Our results allow us to conclude that within the temperature range $T/T_c \in [0.9, 1.5]$ SU(3)--gluodynamics reveals the properties of a strongly interacting system, which cannot be described perturbatively, and has the ratio $η/s$ close to the value ${1}/{4π}$ in $N = 4$ Supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory.
