BMW/DMZ calculation of the hadronic vacuum polarisation for the muon magnetic moment

For twenty years, a persistent discrepancy between experimental measurements and theoretical calculations of the muon anomalous magnetic moment have provided tantalising hints of new physics. In recent years, improvements to the experimental precision have appeared to make the tension stronger and stronger. However, at the same time, our lattice calculation overturned the theoretical consensus, completely eliminating the tension. I will present the latest results from the Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal (BMW) and DMZ collaborations, with a hybrid determination of the hadronic vacuum polarisation contribution to a precision of 0.45%

Phase Transitions in Particle Physics -- Results and Perspectives from Lattice Quantum Chromo-Dynamics

Phase transitions in a non-perturbative regime can be studied by ab initio Lattice Field Theory methods. The status and future research directions for LFT investigations of Quantum Chromo-Dynamics under extreme conditions are reviewed, including properties of hadrons and of the hypothesized QCD axion as inferred from QCD topology in different phases. We discuss phase transitions in strong interactions in an extended parameter space, and the possibility of model building for Dark Matter and Electro-Weak Symmetry Breaking. Methodological challenges are addressed as well, including new developments in Artificial Intelligence geared towards the identification of different phases and transitions.

Lattice gauge ensembles and data management

The generation of ensembles of gauge configurations is a considerable expense. The preservation and curation of these ensembles constitutes a valuable shared resource for the lattice field theory community. The organizers of Lattice 2022 dedicated a parallel session to the presentation of gauge ensembles and their generation, plans for ensemble publication and data management/storage activities of different collaborations. A summary of the twelve contributions is presented here.

More on the flavor dependence of $m_\varrho / f_π$

In previous work, arXiv:1905.01909, we have calculated the $m_\varrho / f_π$ ratio in the chiral and continuum limit for $SU(3)$ gauge theory coupled to $N_f = 2,3,4,5,6$ fermions in the fundamental representation. The main result was that this ratio displays no statistically significant $N_f$-dependence. In the present work we continue the study of the $N_f$-dependence by extending the simulations to $N_f = 7, 8, 9, 10$. Along the way we also study in detail the $N_f$-dependence of finite volume effects on low energy observables and a particular translational symmetry breaking unphysical, lattice artefact phase specific to staggered fermions.

Finite temperature QCD with $N_f=2+1+1$ Wilson twisted mass fermions at physical pion, strange and charm masses

We discuss recent progress in studying Quantum Chromodynamics at finite temperature using $N_f=2+1+1$ Wilson twisted mass fermions. Particular interest is in QCD symmetries and their breaking and restoration. First, we discuss the behaviour of the $η'$ meson at finite temperature, which is tightly connected to the axial and chiral symmetries. The results suggest a small decrease of the $η'$ mass in the pseudo-critical region coming close to the non-anomalous contribution and subsequent growth at large temperatures. Second, we present the first results of lattice simulations of Quantum Chromodynamics with $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass Wilson fermions at physical pion, strange and charm masses. We estimate the chiral pseudo-critical temperatures for different observables. Our preliminary results are consistent with a second order transition in the chiral limit, however other scenarios are not excluded.

Lattice study of electromagnetic conductivity of quark-gluon plasma in external magnetic field

We study the electromagnetic (e.m.) conductivity of QGP in a magnetic background by lattice simulations with $N_f = 2+1$ dynamical rooted staggered fermions at the physical point. We study the correlation functions of the e.m.~currents at $T=200,\,250$\,MeV and use the Tikhonov approach to extract the conductivity. This is found to rise with the magnetic field in the direction parallel to it and to decrease in the transverse direction, giving evidence for both the Chiral Magnetic Effect and the magnetoresistance phenomenon in QGP. We also estimate the chiral charge relaxation time in QGP.

Fate of the $η'$ in the Quark Gluon Plasma

In this paper we study the $η'$ in $N_f=2+1+1$ lattice QCD simulations at finite temperature. Results are obtained from the analysis of the gluonic defined topological charge density correlator after gradient flow. Our results indicate the growth of the $η'$ mass above the pseudocritical temperature, associated with the chiral symmetry restoration. In the vicinity of the pseudocritical temperature the results are consistent with a small dip in the $η'$ mass. The magnitude of the dip is compatible with the reduction of the $η'$ mass obtained by experimental analysis and suggests that $η'$ mass comes close to zero temperature non-anomalous contribution.
