Elementary Monte Carlo model of the anisotropic recrystallization and antiripening under intensive stirring and high supersaturations

Known method of fibrous oxides production (first of all, V2O5) by intensive stirring in water is treated in the frame of driven systems approach developed in 80s by Georges Martin et al for systems under irradiation or severe plastic deformation. Instead of ballistic diffusion, the ballistic detachments of atoms from the oxide surface under stirring are introduced. Simplified Monte Carlo scheme is suggested for crystal evolution within TLK model, taking into account anisotropy and additional athermal detachment probabilities. Individual cluster in limited volume becomes elongated in steady-state or dissolve. For the ensemble of clusters, the number is decreasing (as in common ripening), but the mean length of fibers grows, as well as the total surface energy (contrary to common ripening).

Concept of post-eutectic composition for undercooled alloys

The concept of post-eutectic composition at a fixed undercooling is introduced as the most probable composition in zones of coupled growth. This composition corresponds to the minimum Gibbs free energy release rate in the steady state regime, aligning with Prigogine principle of minimum entropy production for steady states. Geometrically, this is represented by the parallel tangents rule, a generalization of the common tangent rule for transitioning from equilibrium to steady state conditions.

Modeling of pattern formation of the ordered intermediate phases during co-deposition of binary thin film

Formation of the intermediate phase patterns in the thin-film co-deposition process is simulated using the Stochastic Kinetic Mean-Field method and Monte Carlo. Three basic morphologies of the 2D sections are distinguished: (1) spots (rod-like in 3D), (2) layered structures-lamellae, zigzags, and labyrinths (plate-like in 3D), and (3) net-like structures (inverse to spot-like structures, when spots become majority and the surrounding matrix becomes a minority). They are characterized and distinguished with the help of only one special topological parameter.

Ising and regular solution models revisited for 2D open systems

The Ising model is well-known for illustrating the fundamental characteristics of phase transitions in closed systems. In this article, we propose a generalization of the two-dimensional Ising model to open systems, considering the divergence of external fluxes within a mean-field approximation, and explore its application for classifying steady states based on external flux (deposition rate), temperature, and composition. We focus on cases with positive mixing energy, which lead to the typical spinodal and binodal domes at the phase diagram under the regular solution approximation for closed systems. For open systems, we demonstrate that a supercritical external flux divergence stabilizes the system, preventing decomposition. We identify rate-dependent spinodal and binodal domes, as well as a subdivision of the instability region at subcritical rates into three distinct steady-state morphologies: spots (gepard-like), layers (zebra-like), and mixed patterns (a combination of gepard and zebra). This morphology map depends on the initial conditions, demonstrating memory effects and hysteresis.
