Orbits of light rays in (1+2)-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell gravity: Exact analytical solution to the null geodesic equations

We study photon orbits within (1+2)-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell non-linear electrodynamics assuming a static and circularly symmetric background. An exact analytical solution to the null geodesic equations for light rays is obtained in terms of the Weierstraß function. We investigate in detail the impact of the photon energy, the electric charge of the black hole, and the integration constant (initial condition) on the shape of the orbits.

Statefinder analysis of scale-dependent cosmology

We study the statefinder parameters of a cosmological model based on scale-dependent gravity. The effective Einstein field equations come from an average effective action. From the dynamical system, we derive analytical expressions that improve the convergence of the numerical solutions. We determine the statefinder parameters for moderate redshift and compare them with well-known alternatives to $Λ$CDM.

Accretion of matter and spectra of Binary X-ray sources in Massive Gravity

We study low-mass binary X-ray sources involving stellar mass black holes within massive gravity. Regarding the accretion disk, we adopt the standard model for an optically thick, cool, and geometrically thin disk by Shakura-Sunyaev. For the gravitational field generated by the black hole, we consider the analogue of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter space-time of Einstein's theory in massive gravity, for which we found an additional term linear in the radial coordinate. Then, we compute the radial velocity, the energy density and the pressure as a function of the radial coordinate, and the X-ray emission's soft spectral component expected from the disk. We also investigated in detailed the impact of this new geometry. Our result indicates that by using observed spectra from confirmed X-ray binaries involving astrophysical black holes, we can put strong constraints on alternative theories of gravity.

ISCOs and OSCOs in the presence of a positive cosmological constant in massive gravity

We study the impact of a non-vanishing (positive) cosmological constant on the innermost and outermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs and OSCOs, respectively) within massive gravity in four dimensions. The gravitational field generated by a point-like object within this theory is known, generalizing the usual Schwarzschild--de Sitter geometry of General Relativity. In the non-relativistic limit, the gravitational potential differs by the one corresponding to the Schwarzschild--de Sitter geometry by a term that is linear in the radial coordinate with some prefactor $γ$, which is the only free parameter. Starting from the geodesic equations for massive test particles and the corresponding effective potential, we obtain a polynomial of fifth order that allows us to compute the innermost and outermost stable circular orbits. Next, we numerically compute the real and positive roots of the polynomial for several different structures (from the hydrogen atom to stars and globular clusters to galaxies and galaxy clusters) considering three distinct values of the parameter $γ$, determined using physical considerations, such as galaxy rotation curves and orbital precession. Similarly to the Kottler spacetime, both ISCOs and OSCOs appear. Their astrophysical relevance as well as the comparison with the Kottler spacetime are briefly discussed.

Can scale-dependent cosmology alleviate the $H_0$ tension?

Scale-dependence is a common feature to all effective models of quantum gravity. In this paper, a cosmological model based on the scale-dependent scenario of gravity is presented. It is argued that such models, where the scale-dependence appears as a correction to the classical $Λ$CDM evolution, have the potential of addressing the tensions between early and late time measurements of $H_0$. After defining criteria to parametrize this tension, we perform a numerical scan over the parameter space of the scale-dependent model, subject to these criteria. In this analysis, it is found that, indeed, the tension can be released.

Thermodynamics of scale-dependent Friedmann equations

In this work, the role of a time-varying Newton constant under the scale-dependent approach is investigated in the thermodynamics of the Friedman equations. In particular, we show that the extended Friedman equations can be derived either from equilibrium thermodynamics when the non-matter energy momentum tensor is interpreted as a fluid or from non-equilibrium thermodynamics when an entropy production term, which depends on the time-varying Newton constant, is included. Finally, a comparison between black hole and cosmological thermodynamics in the framework of scale--dependent gravity is briefly discussed.

Orbits of light rays in scale-dependent gravity: Exact analytical solutions to the null geodesic equations

We study photon orbits in the background of $(1+3)$-dimensional static, spherically symmetric geometries. In particular, we have obtained exact analytical solutions to the null geodesic equations for light rays in terms of the Weierstraß function for space-times arising in the context of scale-dependent gravity. The trajectories in the $(x-y)$ plane are shown graphically, and we make a comparison with similar geometries arising in different contexts. The light deflection angle is computed as a function of the running parameter $ξ$, and an upper bound for the latter is obtained.

Four dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell black hole solutions in scale-dependent gravity

In the present work, we extend and generalize our previous work regarding the scale dependence applied to black holes in the presence of non-linear electrodynamics [1]. The starting point for this study is the Einstein-power-Maxwell theory with a vanishing cosmological constant in (3+1) dimensions, assuming a scale dependence of both the gravitational and the electromagnetic coupling. We further examine the corresponding thermodynamic properties and how these quantities experience deviations from their classical counterparts. We solve the effective Einstein's field equations using the "null energy condition" to obtain analytical solutions. The implications of quantum corrections are also briefly discussed. Finally, we analyze our solutions and compare them to related results in the literature.

Interior solutions of relativistic stars with anisotropic matter in scale-dependent gravity

We obtain well behaved interior solutions describing hydrostatic equilibrium of anisotropic relativistic stars in scale-dependent gravity, where Newton's constant is allowed to vary with the radial coordinate throughout the star. Assuming i) a linear equation-of-state in the MIT bag model for quark matter, and ii) a certain profile for the energy density, we integrate numerically the generalized structure equations, and we compute the basic properties of the strange quark stars, such as mass, radius and compactness. Finally, we demonstrate that stability criteria as well as the energy conditions are fulfilled. Our results show that a decreasing Newton's constant throughout the objects leads to slightly more massive and more compact stars.

Lagrangian formulation for an extended cosmological equation-of-state

We show that the extended cosmological equation-of-state developed starting from a Chaplygin equation-of-state, recently applied to stellar modeling, is a viable dark energy model consistent with standard scalar potentials. Moreover we find a Lagrangian formulation based on a canonical scalar field with the appropriate self-interaction potential. Finally, we fit the scalar potential obtained numerically with concrete functions well studied in the literature. Our results may be of interest to model builders and particle physicists.

Quasinormal spectra of scale-dependent Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes

We compute the quasinormal spectra for scalar, Dirac and electromagnetic perturbations of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter geometry in the framework of scale-dependent gravity, which is one of the current approaches to quantum gravity. Adopting the widely used WKB semi-classical approximation, we investigate the impact on the spectrum of the angular degree, the overtone number as well as the scale-dependent parameter for fixed black hole mass and cosmological constant. We summarize our numerical results in tables, and for better visualization, we show them graphically as well. All modes are found to be stable. Our findings show that both the real part and the absolute value of the imaginary part of the frequencies increase with the parameter $ε$ that measures the deviation from the classical geometry. Therefore, in the framework of scale-dependent gravity the modes oscillate and decay faster in comparison with their classical counterparts.

Radial oscillations and tidal Love numbers of dark energy stars

We investigate the properties of relativistic stars made of dark energy. We model stellar structure assuming i) isotropic perfect fluid and ii) a dark energy inspired equation of state, the generalized equation of state of Chaplygin gas, as we will be calling it. The mass-to-radius profiles, the tidal Love numbers as well as the ten lowest radial oscillation modes are computed. Causality, stability and energy conditions are also discussed.

Scale-dependent slowly rotating black holes with flat horizon structure

We study slowly rotating four-dimensional black holes with flat horizon structure in scale-dependent gravity. First we obtain the solution, and then we study thermodynamic properties as well as the invariants of the theory. The impact of the scale-dependent parameter is investigated in detail. We find that the scale-dependent solution exhibits a single singularity at the origin, also present in the classical solution.

Quasinormal modes of an improved Schwarzschild black hole

We compute the quasinormal frequencies for scalar and electromagnetic perturbations of an improved Schwarzschild geometry in the framework of asymptotically safe gravity, which is one of the approaches to quantum gravity. Adopting the widely used WKB semi-classical approximation, we investigate the impact on the spectrum of the angular degree, the overtone number as well as the black hole mass. We summarize our numerical results in tables, and for better visualization, we show them graphically as well. All modes are found to be stable. Finally, we compare our numerical results with those corresponding to the classical Schwarzschild solution as well as to the results obtained using a different approach. Our findings show that i) a different cut-off identification does not affect the spectra significantly, and ii) for hypothetical objects with masses comparable to the Planck mass, the difference in the numerical values between the modes of the classical solution and the modes of the improved solution studied here is of the order of a few per cent. On the contrary, for realistic, astrophysical BHs no difference in the frequencies is observed.

Quasinormal modes of black holes with a scalar hair in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory

We compute the quasinormal frequencies for scalar perturbations of hairy black holes in four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory assuming a non-trivial scalar potential for the dilaton field. We investigate the impact on the spectrum of the angular degree, the overtone number, the charges of the black hole as well as the magnitude of the scalar potential. All modes are found to be stable. Our numerical results are summarized in tables, and for better visualization, we show them graphically as well.

Relativistic Anisotropic Fluid Spheres Satisfying a Non-Linear Equation of State

In this work, a spherically symmetric and static relativistic anisotropic fluid sphere solution of the Einstein field equations is provided. To build this particular model, we have imposed metric potential $e^{2λ(r)}$ and an equation of state. Specifically, the so-called modified generalized Chaplygin equation of state with $ω=1$ and depending on two parameters, namely, $A$ and $B$. These ingredients close the problem, at least mathematically. However, to check the feasibility of the model, a complete physical analysis has been performed. Thus, we analyze the obtained geometry and the main physical observables, such as the density $ρ$, the radial $p_{r}$, and tangential $p_{t}$ pressures as well as the anisotropy factor $Δ$. Besides, the stability of the system has been checked by means of the velocities of the pressure waves and the relativistic adiabatic index. It is found that the configuration is stable in considering the adiabatic index criteria and is under hydrostatic balance. Finally, to mimic a realistic compact object, we have imposed the radius to be $R=9.5\ [km]$. With this information and taking different values of the parameter $A$ the total mass of the object has been determined. The resulting numerical values for the principal variables of the model established that the structure could represent a quark (strange) star mixed with dark energy.

Anisotropic 2+1 dimensional black holes by gravitational decoupling

In the present paper, we analyze the well-known 2+1 dimensional black holes (assuming a non-vanishing cosmological constant) in light of the gravitational decoupling by the minimal geometric deformation approach. To illustrate our results, we consider the BTZ geometry as the seed solution to generate new anisotropic ones. To complement the study, the curvature scalars and the energy conditions are analyzed.
