SAMCIRT: A Simultaneous Reconstruction and Affine Motion Compensation Technique for Four Dimensional Computed Tomography (4DCT)

The majority of the recent iterative approaches in 4DCT not only rely on nested iterations, thereby increasing computational complexity and constraining potential acceleration, but also fail to provide a theoretical proof of convergence for their proposed iterative schemes. On the other hand, the latest MATLAB and Python image processing toolboxes lack the implementation of analytic adjoints of affine motion operators for 3D object volumes, which does not allow gradient methods using exact derivatives towards affine motion parameters. In this work, we propose the Simultaneous Affine Motion-Compensated Image Reconstruction Technique (SAMCIRT)- an efficient iterative reconstruction scheme that combines image reconstruction and affine motion estimation in a single update step, based on the analytic adjoints of the motion operators then exact partial derivatives with respect to both the reconstruction and the affine motion parameters. Moreover, we prove the separated Lipschitz continuity of the objective function and its associated functions, including the gradient, which supports the convergence of our proposed iterative scheme, despite the non-convexity of the objective function with respect to the affine motion parameters. Results from simulation and real experiments show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art CT reconstruction with affine motion correction methods in computational feasibility and projection distance. In particular, this allows accurate reconstruction for a real, nonstationary diamond, showing a novel application of 4DCT.

An optimal control approach for the treatment of hepatitis C patients

In this article, the feasibility of using optimal control theory will be studied to develop control theoretic methods for personalized treatment of HCV patients. The mathematical model for HCV progression includes compartments for healthy hepatocytes, infected hepatocytes, infectious virions and noninfectious virions. Methodologies have been used from optimal control theory to design and synthesize an open-loop control based treatment regimen for HCV dynamics.

Region-based motion-compensated iterative reconstruction technique for dynamic computed tomography

Current state-of-the-art motion-based dynamic computed tomography reconstruction techniques estimate the deformation by considering motion models in the entire object volume although occasionally the proper change is local. In this article, we address this issue by introducing the region-based Motion-compensated Iterative Reconstruction Technique (rMIRT). It aims to accurately reconstruct the object being locally deformed during the scan, while identifying the deformed regions consistently with the motion models. Moreover, the motion parameters that correspond to the deformation in those areas are also estimated. In order to achieve these goals, we consider a mathematical optimization problem whose objective function depends on the reconstruction, the deformed regions and the motion parameters. The derivatives towards all of them are formulated analytically, which allows for efficient reconstruction using gradient-based optimizers. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first iterative reconstruction method in dynamic CT that exploits the analytical derivative towards the deformed regions.

Federated Artificial Intelligence for Unified Credit Assessment

With the rapid adoption of Internet technologies, digital footprints have become ubiquitous and versatile to revolutionise the financial industry in digital transformation. This paper takes initiatives to investigate a new paradigm of the unified credit assessment with the use of federated artificial intelligence. We conceptualised digital human representation which consists of social, contextual, financial and technological dimensions to assess the commercial creditworthiness and social reputation of both banked and unbanked individuals. A federated artificial intelligence platform is proposed with a comprehensive set of system design for efficient and effective credit scoring. The study considerably contributes to the cumulative development of financial intelligence and social computing. It also provides a number of implications for academic bodies, practitioners, and developers of financial technologies.

ReINTEL: A Multimodal Data Challenge for Responsible Information Identification on Social Network Sites

This paper reports on the ReINTEL Shared Task for Responsible Information Identification on social network sites, which is hosted at the seventh annual workshop on Vietnamese Language and Speech Processing (VLSP 2020). Given a piece of news with respective textual, visual content and metadata, participants are required to classify whether the news is `reliable' or `unreliable'. In order to generate a fair benchmark, we introduce a novel human-annotated dataset of over 10,000 news collected from a social network in Vietnam. All models will be evaluated in terms of AUC-ROC score, a typical evaluation metric for classification. The competition was run on the Codalab platform. Within two months, the challenge has attracted over 60 participants and recorded nearly 1,000 submission entries.

Phase slip lines in superconducting few-layer NbSe$_2$ crystals

We show the results of two-terminal and four-terminal transport measurements on few-layer NbSe$_2$ devices at large current bias. In all the samples measured, transport characteristics at high bias are dominated by a series of resistance jumps due to nucleation of phase slip lines, the two dimensional analogue of phase slip centers. In point contact devices the relatively simple and homogeneous geometry enables a quantitative comparison with the model of Skocpol, Beasley and Tinkham. In extended crystals the nucleation of a single phase slip line can be induced by mechanical stress of a region whose width is comparable to the charge imbalance equilibration length.
