Hyperharmonic analysis for the study of high-order information-theoretic signals

Network representations often cannot fully account for the structural richness of complex systems spanning multiple levels of organisation. Recently proposed high-order information-theoretic signals are well-suited to capture synergistic phenomena that transcend pairwise interactions; however, the exponential-growth of their cardinality severely hinders their applicability. In this work, we combine methods from harmonic analysis and combinatorial topology to construct efficient representations of high-order information-theoretic signals. The core of our method is the diagonalisation of a discrete version of the Laplace-de Rham operator, that geometrically encodes structural properties of the system. We capitalise on these ideas by developing a complete workflow for the construction of hyperharmonic representations of high-order signals, which is applicable to a wide range of scenarios.

A computer algebra system for the study of commutativity up-to-coherent homotopies

The Python package ComCH is a lightweight specialized computer algebra system that provides models for well known objects, the surjection and Barratt-Eccles operads, parameterizing the product structure of algebras that are commutative in a derived sense. The primary examples of such algebras treated by ComCH are the cochain complexes of spaces, for which it provides effective constructions of Steenrod cohomology operations at all prime.

A finitely presented ${E}_{\infty}$-prop II: cellular context

We construct, using finitely many generating cell and relations, props in the category of CW-complexes with the property that their associated operads are models for the $E_\infty$-operad. We use one of these to construct a cellular $E_\infty$-bialgebra structure on the interval and derive from it a natural cellular $E_\infty$-coalgebra structure on the geometric realization of a simplicial set which, passing to cellular chains, recovers up to signs the Barratt-Eccles and Surjection coalgebra structures introduced by Berger-Fresse and McClure-Smith. We use another prop, a quotient of the first, to relate our constructions to earlier work of Kaufmann and prove a conjecture of his. This is the second of two papers in a series, the first investigates analogue constructions in the category of chain complexes.

An effective proof of the Cartan formula: the even prime

The Cartan formula encodes the relationship between the cup product and the action of the Steenrod algebra in $\mathbb F_p$-cohomology. In this work, we present an effective proof of the Cartan formula at the cochain level when the field is $\mathbb F_2$. More explicitly, for an arbitrary pair of cocycles and any non-negative integer, we construct a natural coboundary that descends to the associated instance of the Cartan formula. Our construction works for general algebras over the Barratt-Eccles operad, in particular, for the singular cochains of spaces.

A finitely presented ${E}_{\infty}$-prop I: algebraic context

We introduce a finitely presented prop $\mathcal{S} = \{\mathcal{S}(n,m)\}$ in the category of differential graded modules whose associated operad $U(\mathcal{S})=\{\mathcal{S}(1,m)\}$ is a model for the $E_\infty$-operad. This finite presentation allows us to describe a natural $E_\infty$-coalgebra structure on the chains of any simplicial set in terms of only three maps: the Alexander-Whitney diagonal, the augmentation map, and an algebraic version of the join of simplices. The first appendix connects our construction to the Surjection operad of McClure-Smith and Berger-Fresse. The second establishes a duality between the join and AW maps for augmented and non-augmented simplicial sets. A follow up paper constructs a prop corresponding to $\mathcal{S}$ in the category of $CW$-complexes.
