Entanglement in first excited states of some many-body quantum spin systems: indication of quantum phase transition in finite size systems

We compute concurrence, a measure of bipartite entanglement, of the first excited state of the $1$-D Heisenberg frustrated $J_1$-$J_2$ spin-chain and observe a sudden change in the entanglement of the eigen state near the coupling strength $α=J_2/J_1\approx0.241$, where a quantum phase transition from spin-fluid phase to dimer phase has been previously reported. We numerically observe this phenomena for spin-chain with $8$ sites to $16$ sites, and the value of $α$ at which the change in entanglement is observed asymptotically tends to a value $α_c\approx0.24116$. We have calculated the finite-size scaling exponents for spin chains with even and odd spins. It may be noted that bipartite as well as multipartite entanglement measures applied on the ground state of the system, fail to detect any quantum phase transition from the gapless to the gapped phase in the $1$-D Heisenberg frustrated $J_1$-$J_2$ spin-chain. Furthermore, we measure bipartite entanglement of first excited states for other spin models like $2$-D Heisenberg $J_1$-$J_2$ model and Shastry-Sutherland model and find similar indications of quantum phase transitions.

On the geometry of the symmetrized bidisc

We study the action of the automorphism group of the $2$ complex dimensional manifold symmetrized bidisc $\mathbb{G}$ on itself. The automorphism group is 3 real dimensional. It foliates $\mathbb{G}$ into leaves all of which are 3 real dimensional hypersurfaces except one, viz., the royal variety. This leads us to investigate Isaev's classification of all Kobayashi-hyperbolic 2 complex dimensional manifolds for which the group of holomorphic automorphisms has real dimension 3 studied by Isaev. Indeed, we produce a biholomorphism between the symmetrized bidisc and the domain \[\{(z_1,z_2)\in \mathbb{C} ^2 : 1+|z_1|^2-|z_2|^2>|1+ z_1 ^2 -z_2 ^2|, Im(z_1 (1+\overline{z_2}))>0\}\] in Isaev's list. Isaev calls it $\mathcal D_1$. The road to the biholomorphism is paved with various geometric insights about $\mathbb{G}$. Several consequences of the biholomorphism follow including two new characterizations of the symmetrized bidisc and several new characterizations of $\mathcal D_1$. Among the results on $\mathcal D_1$, of particular interest is the fact that $\mathcal D_1$ is a "symmetrization". When we symmetrize (appropriately defined in the context in the last section) either $Ω_1$ or $\mathcal{D}^{(2)}_1$ (Isaev's notation), we get $\mathcal D_1$. These two domains $Ω_1$ and $\mathcal{D}^{(2)}_1$ are in Isaev's list and he mentioned that these are biholomorphic to $\mathbb{D} \times \mathbb{D}$. We produce explicit biholomorphisms between these domains and $\mathbb{D} \times \mathbb{D}$.

On the Nevanlinna problem -- Characterization of all Schur-Agler class solutions affiliated with a given kernel

Given a domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{C}^m$, and a finite set of points $z_1,z_2,\ldots, z_n\in Ω$ and $w_1,w_2,\ldots, w_n\in \mathbb{D}$ (the open unit disc in the complex plane), the \textit{Pick interpolation problem} asks when there is a holomorphic function $f:Ω\rightarrow \overline{\mathbb{D}}$ such that $f(z_i)=w_i,1\leq i\leq n$. Pick gave a condition on the data $\{z_i, w_i:1\leq i\leq n\}$ for such an $interpolant$ to exist if $Ω=\mathbb{D}$. Nevanlinna characterized all possible functions $f$ that \textit{interpolate} the data. We generalize Nevanlinna's result to a domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{C}^m$ admitting holomorphic test functions when the function $f$ comes from the Schur-Agler class and is affiliated with a certain completely positive kernel. The Schur class is a naturally associated Banach algebra of functions with a domain. The success of the theory lies in characterizing the Schur class interpolating functions for three domains - the bidisc, the symmetrized bidisc and the annulus - which are affiliated to given kernels.

Benford analysis of quantum critical phenomena: First digit provides high finite-size scaling exponent while first two and further are not much better

Benford's law is an empirical edict stating that the lower digits appear more often than higher ones as the first few significant digits in statistics of natural phenomena and mathematical tables. A marked proportion of such analyses is restricted to the first significant digit. We employ violation of Benford's law, up to the first four significant digits, for investigating magnetization and correlation data of paradigmatic quantum many-body systems to detect cooperative phenomena, focusing on the finite-size scaling exponents thereof. We find that for the transverse field quantum XY model, behavior of the very first significant digit of an observable, at an arbitrary point of the parameter space, is enough to capture the quantum phase transition in the model with a relatively high scaling exponent. A higher number of significant digits do not provide an appreciable further advantage, in particular, in terms of an increase in scaling exponents. Since the first significant digit of a physical quantity is relatively simple to obtain in experiments, the results have potential implications for laboratory observations in noisy environments.

Tunneling of Massive Vector Particles from Dilaton Black Holes in $(2+1)$ Dimensions

In this paper, we have studied the Hawking radiation of massive spin-$1$ particles from the black holes in $(2+1)$ dimensions with non- trivial dilaton fields. We consider two special varities of these black holes one is static charged and other is spinning electrically neutral. By applying the standard method of $WKB$ approximation and Hamilton- Jacobi ansatz we have shown the tunneling probability and Hawking temperature of massive bosons accordingly. In the certain limit of the dilaton coupling for spinning neutral case we have recovered the Hawking temperature of the $BTZ$ black holes as well.

Null Geodesics and Red-Blue Shifts of Photons Emitted from Geodesic Particles Around a Non-Commutative Black Hole Spacetime

We investigate the geodesic motion of massless test particles in the background of a noncommutative geometry inspired Schwarzschild black hole. The behaviour of effective potential is analysed in the equatorial plane and the possible motions of massless particles (i.e. photons) for different values of impact parameter are discussed accordingly. We have also calculated the frequency shift of photons in this spacetime. Further, the mass parameter of a non-commutative inspired Schwarzschild black hole is computed in terms of the measurable redshift of photons emitted by massive particles moving along circular geodesics in equatorial plane. It is observed that the the gravitational field of a non-commutative inspired Schwarzschild black hole is more attractive than the Schwarzschild black hole in General Relativity.

Geodesic motion in R- charged black hole space-times

We study the geodesic motion of massive and massless test particles in the background of a particular class of multiple charge black holes in gauged supergravity theories in D = 4. We have analysed the horizon structure along with the nature of the effective potentials for the case of four equal charges. In view of the corresponding effective potentials, we have discussed all the possible orbits in detail for different values of energy and angular momentum of the incoming test particles. The periods for one complete revolution of circular orbits and the advance of perihelion of the planetary orbit have also been investigated in greater detail for massive test particles. We have also discussed the time period of unstable circular motion and cone of avoidance of massless test particles in detail. All the corresponding results obtained for massive and massless test particles are then compared accordingly.

To freeze or not to: Quantum correlations under local decoherence

We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for freezing of quantum correlations as measured by quantum discord and quantum work deficit in the case of bipartite as well as multipartite states subjected to local noisy channels. We recognize that inhomogeneity of the magnetizations of the shared quantum states plays an important role in the freezing phenomena. We show that the frozen value of the quantum correlation and the time interval for freezing follow a complementarity relation. For states which do not exhibit "exact" freezing, but can be frozen "effectively", by having a very slow decay rate with suitable tuning of the state parameters, we introduce an index -- the freezing index -- to quantify the goodness of freezing. We find that the freezing index can be used to detect quantum phase transitions and discuss the corresponding scaling behavior.

Quantum Correlation with Sandwiched Relative Entropies: Advantageous as Order Parameter in Quantum Phase Transitions

Quantum discord is a measure of quantum correlations beyond the entanglement-separability paradigm. It is conceptualized by using the von Neumann entropy as a measure of disorder. We introduce a class of quantum correlation measures as differences between total and classical correlations, in a shared quantum state, in terms of the sandwiched relative Rényi and Tsallis entropies. We compare our results with those obtained by using the traditional relative entropies. We find that the measures satisfy all the plausible axioms for quantum correlations. We evaluate the measures for shared pure as well as paradigmatic classes of mixed states. We show that the measures can faithfully detect the quantum critical point in the transverse quantum Ising model and find that they can be used to remove an unquieting feature of nearest-neighbor quantum discord in this respect. Furthermore, the measures provide better finite-size scaling exponents of the quantum critical point than the ones for other known order parameters, including entanglement and information-theoretic measures of quantum correlations.

Genuine Multipartite Entanglement Trends in Gapless-gapped Transitions of Quantum Spin Systems

We investigate the behavior of genuine multiparticle entanglement, as quantified by the generalized geometric measure, in gapless-to-gapped quantum transitions of one- and two-dimensional quantum spin models. The investigations are performed in the exactly solvable one-dimensional $XY$ models, as well as two-dimensional frustrated $J_{1}-J_{2}$ models, including the Shastry-Sutherland model. The generalized geometric measure shows non-monotonic features near such transitions in the frustrated quantum systems. We also compare the features of the generalized geometric measure near the quantum critical points with the same for measures of bipartite quantum correlations. The multipartite quantum correlation measure turns out to be a better indicator of quantum critical points than the bipartite measures, especially for two-dimensional models.

Benford's law gives better scale exponents in phase transitions of quantum XY models

Benford's law is an empirical law predicting the distribution of the first significant digits of numbers obtained from natural phenomena and mathematical tables. It has been found to be applicable for numbers coming from a plethora of sources, varying from seismographic, biological, financial, to astronomical. We apply this law to analyze the data obtained from physical many-body systems described by the one-dimensional anisotropic quantum XY models in a transverse magnetic field. We detect the zero-temperature quantum phase transition and find that our method gives better finite-size scaling exponents for the critical point than many other known scaling exponents using measurable quantities like magnetization, entanglement, and quantum discord. We extend our analysis to the same system but at finite temperature and find that it also detects the finite temperature phase transition in the model. Moreover, we compare the Benford distribution analysis with the same obtained from the uniform and Poisson distributions. The analysis is furthermore important in that the high-precision detection of the cooperative physical phenomena is possible even from low-precision experimental data.

Correlated many-body calculation to study characteristics of Shannon information entropy for ultracold trapped interacting bosons

A correlated many-body calculation is presented to characterize the Shannon information entropy of trapped interacting bosons. We reformulate the one-body Shannon information entropy in terms of the one-body probability density. The minimum limit of the entropy uncertainty relation (EUR) is approached by making $N$ very small in our numerical work. We examine the effect of correlations in the calculation of information entropy. Comparison with the mean-field result shows that the correlated basis function is indeed required to characterize the important features of the information entropies. We also accurately calculate the point of critical instability of an attractive BEC, which is in close agreement with the experimental value. Next we calculate two-body entropies in position and momentum spaces and study quantum correlations in the attractive BEC.

Shared Purity of Multipartite Quantum States

Fidelity plays an important role in measuring distances between pairs of quantum states, of single as well as multiparty systems. Based on the concept of fidelity, we introduce a physical quantity, shared purity, for arbitrary pure or mixed quantum states of shared systems of an arbitrary number of parties in arbitrary dimensions. We find that it is different from quantum correlations. However, we prove that a maximal shared purity between two parties excludes any shared purity of these parties with a third party, thus ensuring its quantum nature. Moreover, we show that all generalized GHZ states are monogamous, while all generalized W states are non-monogamous with respect to this measure. We apply the quantity to investigate the quantum XY spin models, and observe that it can faithfully detect the quantum phase transition present in these models. We perform a finite-size scaling analysis and find the scaling exponent for this quantity.

Thermodynamic properties of ultracold Bose gas: transition exponents and universality

We report exact numerical calculation of chemical potential, condensate fraction and specific heat of $N$ non-interacting bosons confined in an isotropic harmonic oscillator trap in one, two and three dimensions, as also for interacting bosons in a 3D trap. Quasi phase transitions are observed in all these cases, including one-dimension, as shown by a rapid change of all the thermodynamic quantities at the transition point. The change becomes more rapid as $N$ increases in 2D and 3D cases. However with increase in $N$, the sudden change in the nature of specific heat, gets gradually wiped out in 1D, while it becomes more drastic in 2D and 3D. The sudden change in the nature of condensate fraction and chemical potential as $N$ increases becomes more drastic even in 1D. Defining transition exponents, which characterize the nature of a thermodynamic quantity at the transition point of a quasi phase transition, we evaluate them by careful numerical calculation very near the transition temperature. These exponents are found to be independent of the size of the system and whether the bosons are interacting or not, demonstrating their universality property.

Energy level statistics of interacting trapped bosons

It is an well established fact that statistical properties of energy level spectra are the most efficient tool to characterize nonintegrable quantum systems. The study of statistical properties and spectral fluctuation in the interacting many boson systems have developed a new interest in this direction. Specially we are interested in the weakly interacting trapped bosons in the context of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) as the energy spectrum shows a transition from the collective to single particle nature with the increase in the number of levels. However this has received less attention as it is believed that the system may exhibit Poisson like fluctuations due to the existence of external harmonic trap. Here we compute numerically the energy levels of the zero-temperature many-boson systems which are weakly interacting through the van der Waals potential and are in the 3D confined harmonic potential. We study the nearest neighbour spacing distribution and the spectral rigidity by unfolding the spectrum. It is found that increase in number of energy levels for repulsive BEC induces a transition from a Wigner like form displaying level repulsion to Poisson distribution for P(s). It does not follow the GOE prediction. For repulsive interaction, the lower levels are correlated and manifest level repulsion. For intermediate levels P (s) shows mixed statistic which clearly signifies the existence of two energy scales: external trap and interatomic interaction. Whereas for very high levels the trapping potential dominates, genarating Poisson distribution. Comparison with mean-field results for lower levels are also presented. For attractive BEC near the critical point we observe the Shrielman like peak near s=0 which signifies the presence of large number of quasi-degenerate states.

Spectral fluctuation and $\frac{1}{f^α}$ noise in the energy level statistics of interacting trapped bosons

It has been recently shown numerically that the transition from integrability to chaos in quantum systems and the corresponding spectral fluctuations are characterized by $\frac{1}{f^α}$ noise with $1\leqα\leq 2$. The system of interacting trapped bosons is inhomogeneous and a complex system. The presence of external harmonic trap makes it more interesting as in the atomic trap the bosons occupy partly degenerate single-particle states. Earlier theoretical and experimental results show that at zero temperature the low-lying levels are of collective nature and high-lying excitations are of single particle nature. We observe that for few bosons, $P(s)$ distribution shows the Shnirelman peak which exhibits a large number of quasi-degenerate states. For large number of bosons the low-lying levels are strongly affected by the interatomic interaction and the corresponding level fluctuation shows a transition to Wigner with increase in particle number. It does not follow GOE (Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble) Random Matrix predictions. For high-lying levels we observe the uncorrelated Poisson distribution. Thus it may be a very realistic system to prove that $\frac{1}{f^α}$ noise is ubiquitous in nature.

Destruction of attractive bosonic cloud due to high spatial coherence in tight trap

We study coherence of a trapped bosonic cloud with attractive finite-range interaction in a tight harmonic trap. One-body density and pair-distribution function in the ground state for different trap sizes are calculated. We also calculate healing length and the correlation length which signify the presence of high spatial coherence in a very tight trap leading to the destruction of the condensate for a fixed particle number. This is in marked variance with the usual collapse of the attractive metastable condensate when N > Ncr . Thus we investigate the critical frequency and critical size of the trap for the existence of attractive Bose-Einstein condensation. The finite-range interaction gives a nonlocal effect in the effective many-body potential, and we observe a high-density stable branch besides the known metastable branch. Moreover, the new branch shows universal behavior even in the very tight trap.

Behavior of heat capacity of an attractive Bose-Einstein Condensate approaching collapse

We report calculation of heat capacity of an attractive Bose-Einstein condensate, with the number N of bosons increasing and eventually approaching the critical number Ncr for collapse, using the correlated potential harmonics (CPH) method. Boson pairs interact via the realistic van der Waals potential. It is found that the transition temperature Tc increases initially slowly, then rapidly as N becomes closer to Ncr . The peak value of heat capacity for a fixed N increases slowly with N, for N far away from Ncr . But after reaching a maximum, it starts decreasing when N approaches Ncr . The effective potential calculated by CPH method provides an insight into this strange behavior.
