On relative Ulrich bundles and generalized Clifford algebras

Let $X$ be a smooth projective scheme and $E$ a vector bundle on $X$. For a relative hypersurface $Y_f \subset \mathbb{P}(E)$ of degree $d$ defined by a global section $f$, we establish a functorial equivalence between the category of relatively Ulrich bundles on $Y_f$ and the category of representations of the associated generalized Clifford algebra $C_f$. This equivalence generalizes the classical Ulrich-Clifford correspondence of Coskun-Kulkarni-Mustopa and provides a purely algebraic framework that bypasses geometric obstructions in the relative setting. As a first application, we prove that relative hypersurfaces are Ulrich-wild: there exist families of indecomposable relatively Ulrich bundles $\{E_N\}$ with \[ \dim \mathrm{Ext}^1_{Y_f}(E_N, E_N) \to \infty \quad \text{as } N \to \infty. \] We further show that relative hyperplanes possess a minimal Ulrich complexity of one. Moving beyond degree one, we illustrate how unavoidable homological obstructions require complex machinery, such as matrix factorizations, equivalently generalized Clifford algebras, to find solutions.

$IT_0$ sheaves on compactified Jacobian

In this paper we construct stable $IT_{0}$ trosion free sheaves on compactified Jacobian of an integral nodal curve. Our construction is functorial in nature and it provides an uniform method which works for both smooth and nodal curve.

Ulrich Sheaves on the Hilbert Square of K3 and Abelian Surfaces

We prove the existence of Ulrich sheaves on the Hilbert scheme of two points on a polarized K3 surface or an abelian surface. The construction proceeds by descending Ulrich bundles on the surface to the symmetric square and lifting them to the Hilbert square via the crepant Hilbert--Chow resolution. Finally, we estimate a bound for Ulrich complexity of the Hilbert Square.

On existence of Ulrich sheaf

Let X be a smooth projective variety carrying an Ulrich bundle. In the first part of this note, we construct an Ulrich sheaf on n-th symmetric power of X, which is a singular variety when $DimX >1$. As a consequence, we get the existence of an Ulrich bundle on Hillb^{n}C, where C is a smooth projective curve. Let A be an abelian variety which carries an Ulrich bundle. In the second part of this note, we show the existence of Ulrich bundle on the blow up of $A \times A$ along $A \times \{0\}$.

Competing Holographic Orders

We model competition between different macroscopic orders in an holographic context. The orders we considered are a superconducting order, modeled by a charged scalar field, and a magnetic order modeled by a neutral scalar field. We also discuss the case of two competing scalars coupled to a single gauge field. In all cases discussed here the phases tend to compete, rather than enhance each other. The condensation of one scalar hinders any further instabilities, unless we have a sufficiently strong repulsive interactions between the bulk scalars. We provide both analytic arguments and numerical demonstration of this fact. Based on the cases discussed here, we conjecture that holographic orders tend to compete for attractive bulk interactions, including gravity, and to cooperate, or be mutually enhancing, for repulsive bulk interactions between the corresponding order parameters.

Holographic Non-Fermi Liquid in a Background Magnetic Field

We study the effects of a non-zero magnetic field on a class of 2+1 dim non-Fermi liquids, recently found in 0903.2477 by considering properties of a fermionic probe in an extremal AdS^4 black hole background. Introducing a similar fermionic probe in a dyonic AdS^4 black hole geometry, we find that the effect of a magnetic field could be incorporated in a rescaling of the probe fermion's charge. From this simple fact, we observe interesting effects like gradual disappearance of the Fermi surface and quasi particle peaks at large magnetic fields and changes in other properties of the system. We also find Landau level like structures and oscillatory phenomena similar to the de Haas-van Alphen effect.

Comments on Non-Fermi Liquids in the Presence of a Condensate

We study the effects of a scalar condensate on a class of 2+1 dimensional non- Fermi liquids by introducing fermionic probes in the corresponding asymptotically AdS4 black hole backgrounds. For the range of parameters and couplings we consider we find gapless fermionic excitations whose properties are model-dependent.

Hard-gapped Holographic Superconductors

In this work we discuss the zero temperature limit of a "p-wave" holographic superconductor. The bulk description consists of a non-Abelian SU(2) gauge fields minimally coupled to gravity. We numerically construct the zero temperature solution which is the gravity dual of the superconducting ground state of the "p-wave" holographic superconductors. The solution is a smooth soliton with zero horizon size and shows an emergent conformal symmetry in the IR. We found the expected superconducting behavior. Using the near horizon analysis we show that the system has a "hard gap" for the relevant gauge field fluctuations. At zero temperature the real part of the conductivity is zero for an excitation frequency less than the gap frequency. This is in contrast with what has been observed in similar scalar- gravity-gauge systems (holographic superconductors). We also discuss the low but finite temperature behavior of our solution.

Kinematical Analogy for Marginal Dyon Decay

We describe a kinematical analogy for the marginal decay of 1/4-BPS dyons in 4-dimensional N=4 string compactifications. In this analogy, the electric and magnetic charges play the role of spatial momenta, the BPS mass plays the role of energy, and 1/2-BPS dyons correspond to massless particles. Using SO(12,1) "Lorentz" invariance and standard kinematical formulae in particle physics, we provide simple derivations of the curves of marginal stability. We also show how these curves map into the momentum ellipsoid, and propose some applications of this analogy.

Superconductivity from D3/D7: Holographic Pion Superfluid

We show that a D3/D7 system (at zero quark mass limit) at finite isospin chemical potential goes through a superconductor (superfluid) like phase transition. This is similar to a flavored superfluid phase studied in QCD literature, where mesonic operators condensate. We have studied the frequency dependent conductivity of the condensate and found a delta function pole in the zero frequency limit. This is an example of superconductivity in a string theory context. Consequently we have found a superfluid/supercurrent type solution and studied the associated phase diagram. The superconducting transition changes from second order to first order at a critical superfluid velocity. We have studied various properties of the superconducting system like superfluid density, energy gap, second sound etc. We investigate the possibility of the isospin chemical potential modifying the embedding of the flavor branes by checking whether the transverse scalars also condense at low temperature. This however does not seem to be the case.

Supercurrent: Vector Hair for an AdS Black Hole

In arXiv:0803.3295 [hep-th] a holographic black hole solution is discussed which exhibits a superconductor like transition. In the superconducting phase the black holes show infinite DC conductivity. This gives rise to the possibility of deforming the solutions by turning on a time independent current (supercurrent), without any electric field. This type of deformation does not exist for normal (non-superconducting) black holes, due to the no-hair theorems. In this paper we have studied such a supercurrent solution and the associated phase diagram. Interestingly, we have found a "special point" (critical point) in the phase diagram where the second order superconducting phase transition becomes first order. Supercurrent in superconducting materials is a well studied phenomenon in condensed matter systems. We have found some qualitative agreement with known results.

Dissolved deconfinement: Phase Structure of large N gauge theories with fundamental matter

A class of large N SU(N) gauge theories on a compact manifold S^3 X R (with possible inclusion of adjoint matter) is known to show first order deconfinement transition at the deconfinement temperature. This includes the familiar example of pure YM theory and N=4 SYM theory. Here we study the effect of introduction of N_f fundamental matter fields in the phase diagram of the above mentioned gauge theories at small coupling and in the limit of large N and finite N_f/N. We find some interesting features like the termination of the line of first order deconfinement phase transition at a critical point as the ratio N_f/N is increased and absence of deconfinement transition thereafter (there is only a smooth crossover). This result may have some implication for QCD, which unlike a pure gauge theory does not show a first order deconfinement transition and only displays a smooth crossover at the transition temperature.

Dyon Death Eaters

We study general two-body decays of primitive and non-primitive 1/4-BPS dyons in four-dimensional type IIB string compactifications. We find a ``master equation'' for marginal stability that generalises the curve found by Sen for half-BPS decay, and analyse this equation in a variety of cases including decays to 1/4-BPS products. For half-BPS decays, an interesting and useful relation is exhibited between walls of marginal stability and the mathematics of Farey sequences and Ford circles. We exhibit an example in which two curves of marginal stability intersect in the interior of moduli space.

Noncritical-Topological Correspondence: Disc Amplitudes and Noncompact Branes

We examine the duality between type 0 noncritical strings and topological B-model strings, with special emphasis on the flux dependence. The former theory is known to exhibit holomorphic factorisation upto a subtle flux-dependent disc term. We give a precise definition of the B-model dual and propose that it includes both compact and noncompact B-branes. The former give the factorised part of the free energy, while the latter violate holomorphic factorisation and contribute the desired disc term. These observations are generalised to rational radii, for which we derive a nonperturbatively exact result. We also show that our picture extends to a proposed alternative topological-anti-topological picture of the correspondence for type 0 strings.

FZZ Algebra

The duality between the Sine-Liouville conformal field theory and the two dimensional black hole is revisited by considering the two possible Sine-Liouville dressings together. We show that this choice is consistent with the structure of correlation functions, and that the OPE of the two dressings yields the black hole deformation operator. As an application of this approach, we investigate the role of higher winding perturbations in the context of c=1 strings, where we argue that they are related to higher-spin discrete states that generalize the 2d black hole operator.

Noncritical String Correlators, Finite-N Matrix Models and the Vortex Condensate

We carry out a systematic study of correlation functions of momentum modes in the Euclidean c=1 string, as a function of the radius and to all orders in perturbation theory. We obtain simple explicit expressions for several classes of correlators in terms of special functions. The Normal Matrix Model is found to be a powerful calculational tool that computes c=1 string correlators even at finite N. This enables us to obtain a simple combinatoric formula for the 2n-point function of unit momentum modes, which after T-duality determines the vortex condensate. We comment on possible applications of our results to T-duality at c=1 and to the 2d black hole/vortex condensate problem.

c=1 Matrix Models: Equivalences and Open-Closed String Duality

We give an explicit demonstration of the equivalence between the Normal Matrix Model (NMM) of c=1 string theory at selfdual radius and the Kontsevich-Penner (KP) model for the same string theory. We relate macroscopic loop expectation values in the NMM to condensates of the closed string tachyon, and discuss the implications for open-closed duality. As in c<1, the Kontsevich-Miwa transform between the parameters of the two theories appears to encode open-closed string duality, though our results also exhibit some interesting differences with the c<1 case. We also briefly comment on two different ways in which the Kontsevich model originates.
