Sequential Search with Planning

Sequential development of a new product or technology, or natural resource exploration, often progresses through ordered stages with uncertain rewards and requires costly (ex ante) planning to make future stages accessible. We model this process as an ordered Pandora's box problem where a decision-maker first chooses an initial scope, paying a cost that rises with the number of stages made accessible, and may later expand the scope at a marginal adjustment cost. Since the paid planning costs are sunk, the continuation values depend on the state variable ``paid scope''. We prove existence and uniqueness of scope-dependent reservation values, characterize the optimal search strategy as a threshold rule indexed by paid scope, and derive comparative statics. Interactions among three economic forces shape the optimal behavior -- a guarantee effect (a higher current best offer reduces the expected improvement from the next stage and induces earlier stopping), a paid-scope effect (a larger prepaid scope lowers the marginal cost of future access, raises the continuation value, and supports continuation at higher guarantees), and a remaining-horizon effect (fewer stages remaining shrink the option value of continuing). Two examples illustrate how these forces generate distinct planning and search patterns under normal and fat-tailed rewards.

Real-Time Sign Language to text Translation using Deep Learning: A Comparative study of LSTM and 3D CNN

This study investigates the performance of 3D Convolutional Neural Networks (3D CNNs) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks for real-time American Sign Language (ASL) recognition. Though 3D CNNs are good at spatiotemporal feature extraction from video sequences, LSTMs are optimized for modeling temporal dependencies in sequential data. We evaluate both architectures on a dataset containing 1,200 ASL signs across 50 classes, comparing their accuracy, computational efficiency, and latency under similar training conditions. Experimental results demonstrate that 3D CNNs achieve 92.4% recognition accuracy but require 3.2% more processing time per frame compared to LSTMs, which maintain 86.7% accuracy with significantly lower resource consumption. The hybrid 3D CNNLSTM model shows decent performance, which suggests that context-dependent architecture selection is crucial for practical implementation.This project provides professional benchmarks for developing assistive technologies, highlighting trade-offs between recognition precision and real-time operational requirements in edge computing environments.

The New Black Hole Solution with Anisotropic Fluid in f(R,Lm, T) Gravity: Thermodynamics

In this work, we derive a new class of analytic black hole solutions within the framework of f(R,Lm, T) gravity, where the black hole is surrounded by an anisotropic fluid acting as the matter source. We consider both linear and nonlinear forms of the function f(R,Lm, T), enabling a detailed exploration of how anisotropic pressures and different f(R,Lm, T) influence the spacetime structure. Furthermore, we derive the conditions on the coupling parameters (\b{eta}1, \b{eta}2, \b{eta}3) under which the energy conditions are satisfied. Utilising these constraints, we then investigate the thermodynamic behaviour of the resulting black hole solutions in the presence of various matter fields, namely, dust, radiation, and a quintessence field, each characterised by a distinct equation-of-state parameter. An important outcome of this study is that the results obtained deviate from those predicted by standard General Relativity. It is also observed that these deviations depend explicitly on the interaction between the matter Lagrangian Lm and the trace T of the energy-momentum tensor.

Robust Comparative Statics with Misspecified Bayesian Learning

We present novel monotone comparative statics results for steady-state behavior in a dynamic optimization environment with misspecified Bayesian learning. Building on \cite{ep21a}, we analyze a Bayesian learner whose prior is over parameterized transition models but is misspecified in the sense that the true process does not belong to this set. We characterize conditions that ensure monotonicity in the steady-state distribution over states, actions, and inferred models. Additionally, we provide a new monotonicity-based proof of steady-state existence, derive an upper bound on the cost of misspecification, and illustrate the applicability of our results to several environments of general interest.

New Black Hole Solutions in f(P) Gravity and their Thermodynamic Nature

Black holes are the fascinating objects in the universe. They represent extreme deformations in spacetime geometry. Here, we construct f(P) gravity and the first example of static-spherically symmetric black hole solution in f(P) gravity and discuss their thermodynamics. Using the numerical approach and series solution, we discover the solution and demonstrate that it is a generalization of Schwarzschild. The solution is characterized by a single function that satisfies a nonlinear fourth order differential equation. Interestingly, we can analytically calculate the solution s specific heat, Wald entropy, and Hawking temperature as a function of horizon radius. After analyzing the specific heat, we discovered that the black hole is thermodynamically stable over a small horizon radius.

On Continuity of Separately Convex Preferences and Correspondences

We study separate convexity for preferences and correspondences, and show that this weakening of the usual convexity postulate is strong enough to recover standard equivalences among continuity assumptions. For complete and transitive preferences, we establish equivalence theorems linking separate continuity, mixture continuity, Archimedean-type postulates, solvability and graph continuity, successively on product mixture sets and on Euclidean spaces. The results highlight the role of weaker axiomatic assumptions by yielding representations for multilinear cardinal utility, continuous separately quasiconcave ordinal utility in $n$-person decision problems, and a scalar Anscombe--Aumann setting. For non-ordered preferences, formulated as correspondences, we characterize the open graph property under separate convexity and weak section-continuity, generalizing results of Schmeidler, Shafer, and Bergstrom-Parks-Rader. Examples identify the boundaries of our results.

On Existence of Berk-Nash Equilibria in Misspecified Markov Decision Processes with Infinite Spaces

Model misspecification is a critical issue in many areas of theoretical and empirical economics. In the specific context of misspecified Markov Decision Processes, Esponda and Pouzo (2021) defined the notion of Berk-Nash equilibrium and established its existence in the setting of finite state and action spaces. However, many substantive applications (including two of the three motivating examples presented by Esponda and Pouzo, as well as Gaussian and log-normal distributions, and CARA, CRRA and mean-variance preferences) involve continuous state or action spaces, and are thus not covered by the Esponda-Pouzo existence theorem. We extend the existence of Berk-Nash equilibrium to compact action spaces and sigma-compact state spaces, with possibly unbounded payoff functions. A complication arises because the Berk-Nash equilibrium notion depends critically on Radon-Nikodym derivatives, which are necessarily bounded in the finite case but typically unbounded in misspecified continuous models. The proofs rely on nonstandard analysis and, relative to previous applications of nonstandard analysis in economic theory, draw on novel argumentation traceable to work of the second author on nonstandard representations of Markov processes.

Plagiarism Detection in the Bengali Language: A Text Similarity-Based Approach

Plagiarism means taking another person's work and not giving any credit to them for it. Plagiarism is one of the most serious problems in academia and among researchers. Even though there are multiple tools available to detect plagiarism in a document but most of them are domain-specific and designed to work in English texts, but plagiarism is not limited to a single language only. Bengali is the most widely spoken language of Bangladesh and the second most spoken language in India with 300 million native speakers and 37 million second-language speakers. Plagiarism detection requires a large corpus for comparison. Bengali Literature has a history of 1300 years. Hence most Bengali Literature books are not yet digitalized properly. As there was no such corpus present for our purpose so we have collected Bengali Literature books from the National Digital Library of India and with a comprehensive methodology extracted texts from it and constructed our corpus. Our experimental results find out average accuracy between 72.10 % - 79.89 % in text extraction using OCR. Levenshtein Distance algorithm is used for determining Plagiarism. We have built a web application for end-user and successfully tested it for Plagiarism detection in Bengali texts. In future, we aim to construct a corpus with more books for more accurate detection.

Continuity Postulates and Solvability Axioms in Economic Theory and in Mathematical Psychology: A Consolidation of the Theory of Individual Choice

This paper presents four theorems that connect continuity postulates in mathematical economics to solvability axioms in mathematical psychology, and ranks them under alternative supplementary assumptions. Theorem 1 connects notions of continuity (full, separate, Wold, weak Wold, Archimedean, mixture) with those of solvability (restricted, unrestricted) under the completeness and transitivity of a binary relation. Theorem 2 uses the primitive notion of a separately-continuous function to answer the question when an analogous property on a relation is fully continuous. Theorem 3 provides a portmanteau theorem on the equivalence between restricted solvability and various notions of continuity under weak monotonicity. Finally, Theorem 4 presents a variant of Theorem 3 that follows Theorem 1 in dispensing with the dimensionality requirement and in providing partial equivalences between solvability and continuity notions. These theorems are motivated for their potential use in representation theorems.
