Spacelike and timelike structure functions: a dispersive crossing relation

Crossing symmetry suggests that deep inelastic scattering and semi inclusive electron-positron annihilation are governed by analytic continuations of a single forward amplitude. Drell, Levy, and Yan proposed that the hadronic tensor admits analytic continuation and demonstrated, in reasonable models, that connected contributions to the cross-section continue. They also identified obstructions to continuation of the current correlator. In this work we supplement their observation with a new dispersive proposal for analytic continuation of the correlator and, assuming polynomial boundedness, derive subtracted dispersion relations relating spacelike and timelike cross sections. We introduce a new factorized function that quantifies the obstruction to crossing and compute its hard kernel at lowest order. The resulting identity connects distribution functions in deep inelastic scattering to fragmentation functions in annihilation.

Power corrections to the heavy electron form factor

We study the first power correction to the heavy electron form factor in QED and show that it factorizes as a derivative operator. We discuss the result in QED with no light fermions, where the first power correction can be written explicitly in terms of one-loop integrals and the anomalous magnetic moment. In the presence of light fermions, the heavy electron form factor admits a representation as a sum over matrix elements, each of which receives corrections from higher orders in perturbation theory. From this analysis, we are able to extract the next-to-leading power soft photon theorem in the limit of heavy fermion-initiated dijet events. This is a first step towards studying the heavy quark form factor in the non-abelian theory.

Double spacelike collinear limits from multi-Regge kinematics

We study scattering amplitudes and form factors in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills theory in the limit where two pairs of gluons become collinear. We find that, when the virtualities of both collinear pairs are spacelike, the collinear factorisation of the amplitude involves a generalised splitting amplitude that correlates the two collinear directions, confirming a recent proposal in the literature. Remarkably, we find that our generalised splitting amplitude agrees with the Bern-Dixon-Smirnov (BDS) subtracted six-point amplitude in multi-Regge kinematics. The latter can be explicitly evaluated using integrability to all orders in the coupling. We also present compelling evidence for the universality of the generalised splitting amplitude, by showing that the same function governs the double spacelike collinear limit of scattering amplitudes with up to 8 particles and 3 loops and form factors with up to 6 particles and 2 loops.

Locally finite two-loop amplitudes for electroweak production through gluon fusion

The computation of two-loop amplitudes for the production of multiple Higgs and electroweak gauge bosons via gluon fusion with exact dependence on quark masses relies primarily on numerical methods. We propose a framework that enables their numerical evaluation in momentum space. The method is inspired by the factorization of infrared divergences in QCD scattering amplitudes. It extends techniques introduced for electroweak gauge boson production from quark-antiquark annihilation to processes with external gluons. By combining diagrammatic integrands, we make use of local cancellations between diagrams that automatically eliminate most non-factoring infrared singularities. With a limited number of counterterms, we then derive two-loop integrands for which all soft and collinear singularities factorize locally. We hope that the local subtraction techniques presented in this article will play a useful role in extending the local factorization formalism to two-loop amplitudes for arbitrary processes.

Local infrared safety in time-ordered perturbation theory

We develop a general expression for weighted cross sections in leptonic annihilation to hadrons based on time-ordered perturbation theory (TOPT). The analytic behavior of the resulting integrals over spatial momenta can be analyzed in the language of Landau equations and infrared (IR) power counting. For any infrared-safe weight, the cancellation of infrared divergences is implemented locally at the integrand level, and in principle can be evaluated numerically in four dimensions. We go on to show that it is possible to eliminate unphysical singularities that appear in time-ordered perturbation theory for arbitrary amplitudes. This is done by reorganizing TOPT into an equivalent form that combines classes of time orderings into a ``partially time-ordered perturbation theory". Applying the formalism to leptonic annihilation, we show how to derive diagrammatic expressions with only physical unitarity cuts.

Soft photon theorem in QCD with massless quarks

Working to all orders in dimensionally-regularized QCD, we study the radiation of a photon whose energy is much lower than that of external partons, but much larger than the masses of some quarks. We argue that the conventional soft photon theorem receives corrections at leading power in the photon energy, associated with soft virtual loops of massless fermions. These additive corrections give an overall factor times the non-radiative amplitude that is infrared finite and real to all orders in $α_s$. Based on recent calculations of the three-loop soft gluon current, we identify the lowest-order three-loop correction.
