Leptonic Flavor Violations in the Presence of an Extra Z

Gauged extensions [$SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y\otimes U(1)_X$] of the standard $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$ model obtained without extending the fermion content of the model are studied. Models that are possible when $U(1)_X$ is identified with some combination of the family lepton numbers are systematically classified. Most of these contain flavor violations in the leptonic sector. These flavor violations are correlated to the mixing of the $U(1)_X$ gauge boson $Z'$ with the ordinary $Z$ in the models considered here. Detailed phenomenological implications of a typical model are discussed. Constraints on the $Z'$ mass and the $Z$-$Z'$ mixing following from ({\em i}) the observations at LEP, ({\em ii}) rare processes like $Z\rightarrow eτ$ and ({\em iii}) flavor violating $τ$ decays are presented. It is found that the constraints coming from the LEP allows the rare processes like $τ\rightarrow eee $ at the level of the present limits on its branching ratio. Thus the future search could either improve on the existing LEP limits or would find such flavor violating decays.

Pseudo Dirac Neutrinos in Seesaw Model

Specific class of textures for the Dirac and Majorana mass matrices in the seesaw model leading to a pair of almost degenerate neutrinos is discussed. These textures can be obtained by imposing a horizontal $U(1)$ symmetry. A specific model is discussed in which: (1) All three neutrino masses are similar in magnitude and could lie around eV providing hot component of the dark matter in the universe. (2) Two of these are highly degenerate and their ${\hbox{(mass)}}^2$ difference could solve the solar neutrino problem through large angle MSW solution. (3) The electron neutrino mass may be observable through Kurie plot as well as through search of the neutrinoless double beta decay.

Degenerate Neutrinos in Left Right Symmetric Theory

Various hints on the neutrino masses namely, ({\em i}) the solar neutrino deficit ({\em ii}) the atmospheric neutrino deficit ({\em iii}) the need for the dark matter and/or ({\em iv}) the non-zero neutrinoless double beta decay collectively imply that all the three neutrinos must be nearlty degenerate. This feature can be understood in the left right symmetric theory. We present a model based on the group $SU(2)_{L}\times SU(2)_R\times U(1)_{B-L}\times SU(2)_H$ which can explain the required departures from degeneracy in neutrino masses and large mixing among them without assuming any of the mixing in the quark or charged lepton sector to be large as would be expected in a typical $SO(10)$ model.

Mass Limits of Invisibly Decaying Higgs Particles from the LEP Data

In the Majoron models the $SU(2)$ doublet Higgs can decay invisibly into a Majoron pair via its mixing with a singlet. An analysis of the LEP data shows the invisible decay mode to be more visible than the SM decay. For these models, the dominantly doublet Higgs $H$ is shown to have a mass limit within $\pm 6$ GeV of the SM limit irrespective of the model parameters. But the dominantly singlet one $S$ can be arbitrarily light for sufficiently small mixing angle.
