Closed $\text{SL}(3,\mathbb{C})$-structures on nilmanifolds

In this paper we consider closed $\text{SL}(3,\mathbb{C})$-structures which are either mean convex or tamed by a symplectic form. These notions were introduced by Donaldson in relation to $\text{G}_2$-manifolds with boundary. In particular, we classify nilmanifolds which carry an invariant mean convex closed $\text{SL}(3,\mathbb{C})$-structure and those which admit an invariant mean convex half-flat $\text{SU}(3)$-structure. We also prove that, if a solvmanifold admits an invariant tamed closed $\text{SL}(3,\mathbb{C})$-structure, then it also has an invariant symplectic half-flat $\text{SU}(3)$-structure.

Generalized Kähler almost abelian Lie groups

We study left-invariant generalized Kähler structures on almost abelian Lie groups, i.e., on solvable Lie groups with a codimension-one abelian normal subgroup. In particular, we classify six-dimensional almost abelian Lie groups which admit a left-invariant complex structure and establish which of those have a left-invariant Hermitian structure whose fundamental 2-form is $\partial \bar \partial$-closed. We obtain a classification of six-dimensional generalized Kähler almost abelian Lie groups and determine the 6-dimensional compact almost abelian solvmanifolds admitting an invariant generalized Kähler structure. Moreover, we prove some results in relation to the existence of holomorphic Poisson structures and to the pluriclosed flow.

Pluriclosed and Strominger Kähler-like metrics compatible with abelian complex structures

We show that the existence of a left-invariant pluriclosed Hermitian metric on a unimodular Lie group with a left-invariant abelian complex structure forces the group to be $2$-step nilpotent. Moreover, we prove that the pluriclosed flow starting from a left-invariant Hermitian metric on a $2$-step nilpotent Lie group preserves the Strominger Kähler-like condition.

Homogeneous 8-manifolds admitting invariant Spin(7)-structures

We study compact, simply connected, homogeneous 8-manifolds admitting invariant Spin(7)-structures, classifying all canonical presentations G/H of such spaces, with G simply connected. For each presentation, we exhibit explicit examples of invariant Spin(7)-structures and we describe their type, according to Fernández classification. Finally, we analyse the associated Spin(7)-connection with torsion.

A class of eternal solutions to the G$_2$-Laplacian flow

We explicitly describe the solution of the G$_2$-Laplacian flow starting from an extremally Ricci-pinched closed G$_2$-structure on a compact 7-manifold and we investigate its properties. In particular, we show that the solution exists for all real times and that it remains extremally Ricci-pinched. This result holds more generally on any 7-manifold whenever the intrinsic torsion of the extremally Ricci-pinched G$_2$-structure has constant norm. We also discuss various examples.

Exact $G_2$-structures on unimodular Lie algebras

We consider seven-dimensional unimodular Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}$ admitting exact $G_2$-structures, focusing our attention on those with vanishing third Betti number $b_3(\mathfrak{g})$. We discuss some examples, both in the case when $b_2(\mathfrak{g})\neq0$, and in the case when the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is (2,3)-trivial, i.e., when both $b_2(\mathfrak{g})$ and $b_3(\mathfrak{g})$ vanish. These examples are solvable, as $b_3(\mathfrak{g})=0$, but they are not strongly unimodular, a necessary condition for the existence of lattices on the simply connected Lie group corresponding to $\mathfrak{g}$. More generally, we prove that any seven-dimensional (2,3)-trivial strongly unimodular Lie algebra does not admit any exact $G_2$-structure. From this, it follows that there are no compact examples of the form $(Γ\backslash G,φ)$, where $G$ is a seven-dimensional simply connected Lie group with (2,3)-trivial Lie algebra, $Γ\subset G$ is a co-compact discrete subgroup, and $φ$ is an exact $G_2$-structure on $Γ\backslash G$ induced by a left-invariant one on $G$.

Some remarks on Hermitian manifolds satisfying Kähler-like conditions

We study Hermitian metrics whose Bismut connection $\nabla^B$ satisfies the first Bianchi identity in relation to the SKT condition and the parallelism of the torsion of the Bimut connection. We obtain a characterization of complex surfaces admitting Hermitian metrics whose Bismut connection satisfy the first Bianchi identity and the condition $R^B(x,y,z,w)=R^B(Jx,Jy,z,w)$, for every tangent vectors $x,y,z,w$, in terms of Vaisman metrics. These conditions, also called Bismut Kähler-like, have been recently studied in [D. Angella, A. Otal, L. Ugarte, R. Villacampa, On Gauduchon connections with Kähler-like curvature, to appear in Commun. Anal. Geom., arXiv:1809.02632 [math.DG]], [Q. Zhao, F. Zheng, Strominger connection and pluriclosed metrics, arXiv:1904.06604 [math.DG]], [S. T. Yau, Q. Zhao, F. Zheng, On Strominger Kähler-like manifolds with degenerate torsion, arXiv:1908.05322 [math.DG]]. Using the characterization of SKT almost abelian Lie groups in [R. M. Arroyo, R. Lafuente, The long-time behavior of the homogeneous pluriclosed flow, Proc. London Math. Soc. (3), 119, (2019), 266-289], we construct new examples of Hermitian manifolds satisfying the Bismut Kähler-like condition. Moreover, we prove some results in relation to the pluriclosed flow on complex surfaces and on almost abelian Lie groups. In particular, we show that, if the initial metric has constant scalar curvature, then the pluriclosed flow preserves the Vaisman condition on complex surfaces.

Laplacian coflow on the 7-dimensional Heisenberg group

We study the Laplacian coflow and the modified Laplacian coflow of $G_2$-structures on the $7$-dimensional Heisenberg group. For the Laplacian coflow we show that the solution is always ancient, that is it is defined in some interval $(-\infty,T)$, with $0<T<+\infty$. However, for the modified Laplacian coflow, we prove that in some cases the solution is defined only on a finite interval while in other cases the solution is ancient or eternal, that is it is defined on $(-\infty, \infty)$.

Closed G$_2$-structures on non-solvable Lie groups

We investigate the existence of left-invariant closed G$_2$-structures on seven-dimensional non-solvable Lie groups, providing the first examples of this type. When the Lie algebra has trivial Levi decomposition, we show that such a structure exists only when the semisimple part is isomorphic to $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})$ and the radical is unimodular and centerless. Moreover, we classify unimodular Lie algebras with non-trivial Levi decomposition admitting closed G$_2$-structures.

Dolbeault cohomology of complex nilmanifolds foliated in toroidal groups

It is conjectured that the Dolbeault cohomology of a complex nilmanifold $X$ is computed by left-invariant forms. We prove this under the assumption that $X$ is suitably foliated in toroidal groups and deduce that the conjecture holds in real dimension up to six. Our approach generalises previous methods, where the existence of a holomorphic fibration was a crucial ingredient.

Local Type I Metrics with Holonomy in ${\rm G}_{2}^*$

By [arXiv:1604.00528], a list of possible holonomy algebras for pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with an indecomposable torsion free ${\rm G}_{2}^*$-structure is known. Here indecomposability means that the standard representation of the algebra on ${\mathbb R}^{4,3}$ does not leave invariant any proper non-degenerate subspace. The dimension of the socle of this representation is called the type of the Lie algebra. It is equal to one, two or three. In the present paper, we use Cartan's theory of exterior differential systems to show that all Lie algebras of Type I from the list in [arXiv:1604.00528] can indeed be realised as the holonomy of a local metric. All these Lie algebras are contained in the maximal parabolic subalgebra $\mathfrak p_1$ that stabilises one isotropic line of ${\mathbb R}^{4,3}$. In particular, we realise $\mathfrak p_1$ by a local metric.

Closed warped G$_2$-structures evolving under the Laplacian flow

We study the behaviour of the Laplacian flow evolving closed G$_2$-structures on warped products of the form $M^6\times{\mathbb S}^1$, where the base $M^6$ is a compact 6-manifold endowed with an SU(3)-structure. In the general case, we reinterpret the flow as a set of evolution equations on $M^6$ for the differential forms defining the SU(3)-structure and the warping function. When the latter is constant, we find sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions of the corresponding coupled flow. This provides a method to construct immortal solutions of the Laplacian flow on the product manifolds $M^6\times{\mathbb S}^1$. The application of our results to explicit cases allows us to obtain new examples of expanding Laplacian solitons.

The Kähler Quotient Resolution of $\mathbb{C}^3/Γ$ singularities, the McKay correspondence and D=3 $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons gauge theories

We advocate that a generalized Kronheimer construction of the Kähler quotient crepant resolution $\mathcal{M}_ζ\longrightarrow \mathbb{C}^3/Γ$ of an orbifold singularity where $Γ\subset \mathrm{SU(3)}$ is a finite subgroup naturally defines the field content and interaction structure of a superconformal Chern-Simons Gauge Theory. This is supposedly the dual of an M2-brane solution of $D=11$ supergravity with $\mathbb{C}\times\mathcal{M}_ζ$ as transverse space. We illustrate and discuss many aspects of this of constructions emphasizing that the equation $\pmb{p}\wedge\pmb{p}=0$ which provides the Kähler analogue of the holomorphic sector in the hyperKähler moment map equations canonically defines the structure of a universal superpotential in the CS theory. The kernel of the above equation can be described as the orbit with respect to a quiver Lie group $\mathcal{G}_Γ$ of a locus $L_Γ\subset \mathrm{Hom}_Γ(\mathcal{Q}\otimes R,R)$ that has also a universal definition. We discuss the relation between the coset manifold $\mathcal{G}_Γ/\mathcal{F}_Γ$, the gauge group $\mathcal{F}_Γ$ being the maximal compact subgroup of the quiver group, the moment map equations and the first Chern classes of the tautological vector bundles that are in a one-to-one correspondence with the nontrivial irreps of $Γ$. These first Chern classes provide a basis for the cohomology group $H^2(\mathcal{M}_ζ)$. We discuss the relation with conjugacy classes of $Γ$ and provide the explicit construction of several examples emphasizing the role of a generalized McKay correspondence. The case of the ALE manifold resolution of $\mathbb{C}^2/Γ$ singularities is utilized as a comparison term and new formulae related with the complex presentation of Gibbons-Hawking metrics are exhibited.

The Laplacian coflow on almost-abelian Lie groups

We find explicit solutions of the Laplacian coflow of $G_2-$structures on seven-dimensional almost-abelian Lie groups. Moreover, we construct new examples of solitons for the Laplacian coflow which are not eigenforms of the Laplacian and we exhibit a solution, which is not a soliton, having a bounded interval of existence.

Astheno-Kähler and balanced structures on fibrations

We study the existence of three classes of Hermitian metrics on certain types of compact complex manifolds. More precisely, we consider balanced, SKT and astheno-Kähler metrics. We prove that the twistor spaces of compact hyperkähler and negative quaternionic-Kähler manifolds do not admit astheno-Kähler metrics. Then we provide examples of astheno-Kähler structures on toric bundles over Kähler manifolds. In particular, we find examples of compact complex non-Kähler manifolds which admit a balanced and an astheno-Kähler metrics, thus answering to a question in [52] (see also [24]). One of these examples is simply connected. We also show that the Lie groups $SU(3)$ and $G_2$ admit SKT and astheno-Kähler metrics, which are different. Furthermore, we investigate the existence of balanced metrics on compact complex homogeneous spaces with an invariant volume form, showing in particular that if a compact complex homogeneous space $M$ with invariant volume admits a balanced metric, then its first Chern class $c_1(M)$ does not vanish. Finally we characterize Wang C-spaces admitting SKT metrics.
