On stationary fractional Mean Field Games

We provide an existence result for stationary fractional mean field game systems, with fractional exponent greater than 1/2. In the case in which the coupling is a nonlocal regularizing potential, we obtain existence of solutions under general assumptions on the Hamiltonian. In the case of local coupling, we restrict to the subcritical regime, that is the case in which the diffusion part of the operator dominates the Hamiltonian term. We consider both the case of local bounded coupling and of local unbounded coupling with power-type growth. In this second regime, we impose some conditions on the growth of the coupling and on the growth of the Hamiltonian with respect to the gradient term.

Homogenization of a semilinear heat equation

We consider the homogenization of a semilinear heat equation with vanishing viscosity and with oscillating positive potential depending on $u/\varepsilon$. According to the rate between the frequency of oscillations in the potential and the vanishing factor in the viscosity, we obtain different regimes in the limit evolution and we discuss the locally uniform convergence of the solutions to the effective problem. The interesting feature of the model is that in the strong diffusion regime the effective operator is discontinuous in the gradient entry. We get a complete characterization of the limit solution in dimension $n=1$, whereas in dimension $n>1$ we discuss the main properties of the solutions to the effective problem selected at the limit and we prove uniqueness for some classes of initial data.

Liouville properties and critical value of fully nonlinear elliptic operators

We prove some Liouville properties for sub- and supersolutions of fully nonlinear degenerate elliptic equations in the whole space. Our assumptions allow the coefficients of the first order terms to be large at infinity, provided they have an appropriate sign, as in Ornstein- Uhlenbeck operators. We give two applications. The first is a stabilization property for large times of solutions to fully nonlinear parabolic equations. The second is the solvability of an ergodic Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation that identifies a unique critical value of the operator.

Volume constrained minimizers of the fractional perimeter with a potential energy

We consider volume-constrained minimizers of the fractional perimeter with the addition of a potential energy in the form of a volume inte- gral. Such minimizers are solutions of the prescribed fractional curvature problem. We prove existence and regularity of minimizers under suitable assumptions on the potential energy, which cover the periodic case. In the small volume regime we show that minimizers are close to balls, with a quantitative estimate.

On a parabolic Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation degenerating at the boundary

We derive the long time asymptotic of solutions to an evolutive Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation in a bounded smooth domain, in connection with ergodic problems recently studied in \cite{bcr}. Our main assumption is an appropriate degeneracy condition on the operator at the boundary. This condition is related to the characteristic boundary points for linear operators as well as to the irrelevant points for the generalized Dirichlet problem, and implies in particular that no boundary datum has to be imposed. We prove that there exists a constant $c$ such that the solutions of the evolutive problem converge uniformly, in the reference frame moving with constant velocity $c$, to a unique steady state solving a suitable ergodic problem.

Nonexistence of nonconstant solutions of some degenerate Bellman equations and applications to stochastic control

For a class of Bellman equations in bounded domains we prove that sub- and supersolutions whose growth at the boundary is suitably controlled must be constant. The ellipticity of the operator is assumed to degenerate at the boundary and a condition involving also the drift is further imposed. We apply this result to stochastic control problems, in particular to an exit problem and to the small discount limit related with ergodic control with state constraints. In this context, our condition on the behavior of the operator near the boundary ensures some invariance property of the domain for the associated controlled diffusion process.

Convergence in Multiscale Financial Models with Non-Gaussian Stochastic Volatility

We consider stochastic control systems affected by a fast mean reverting volatility $Y(t)$ driven by a pure jump Lévy process. Motivated by a large literature on financial models, we assume that $Y(t)$ evolves at a faster time scale $\frac{t}{\varepsilon}$ than the assets, and we study the asymptotics as $\varepsilon\to 0$. This is a singular perturbation problem that we study mostly by PDE methods within the theory of viscosity solutions.

Large deviations for some fast stochastic volatility models by viscosity methods

We consider the short time behaviour of stochastic systems affected by a stochastic volatility evolving at a faster time scale. We study the asymptotics of a logarithmic functional of the process by methods of the theory of homogenisation and singular perturbations for fully nonlinear PDEs. We point out three regimes depending on how fast the volatility oscillates relative to the horizon length. We prove a large deviation principle for each regime and apply it to the asymptotics of option prices near maturity.

Long-time behavior of the mean curvature flow with periodic forcing

We consider the long-time behavior of the mean curvature flow in heterogeneous media with periodic fibrations, modeled as an additive driving force. Under appropriate assumptions on the forcing term, we show existence of generalized traveling waves with maximal speed of propagation, and we prove the convergence of solutions to the forced mean curvature flow to these generalized waves.

Curvature flow in heterogeneous media

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in geometric evolution in heterogeneous media. Here we consider curvature driven fows of planar curves, with an additional space-dependent forcing term. Motivated by a homogenization problem, we look for estimates which depend only on the uniform norm of the forcing term. By means of an asymptotic analysis, we discuss the properties of the limit solutions of the homogenization problem, which we can rigorously solve in some special cases: that is, when the initial curve is a graph, and the forcing term does not depend on the vertical direction. As a by-product, in such cases we are able to define a soluton of the geometric evolution when the forcing term is just a bounded, not necessarily continuous, function.

A converse Lyapunov theorem for almost sure stabilizability

We prove a converse Lyapunov theorem for almost sure stabilizability and almost sure asymptotic stabilizability of controlled diffusions: given a stochastic system a.s. stochastic open loop stabilizable at the origin, we construct a lower semicontinuous positive definite function whose level sets form a local basis of viable neighborhoods of the equilibrium. This result provides, with the direct Lyapunov theorems proved in a companion paper, a complete Lyapunov-like characterization of the a.s. stabilizability.

Lyapunov stabilizability of controlled diffusions via a superoptimality principle for viscosity solutions

We prove optimality principles for semicontinuous bounded viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations. In particular we provide a representation formula for viscosity supersolutions as value functions of suitable obstacle control problems. This result is applied to extend the Lyapunov direct method for stability to controlled Ito stochastic differential equations. We define the appropriate concept of Lyapunov function to study the stochastic open loop stabilizability in probability and the local and global asymptotic stabilizability (or asymptotic controllability). Finally we illustrate the theory with some examples.

Almost sure stability of controlled degenerate diffusions

We develop a direct Lyapunov method for the almost sure open-loop stabilizability and asymptotic stabilizability of controlled degenerate diffusion processes. The infinitesimal decrease condition for a Lyapunov function is a new form of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman partial differential inequality of $2nd$ order. We give local and global versions of the First and Second Lyapunov Theorems assuming the existence of a lower semicontinuous Lyapunov function satisfying such inequality in the viscosity sense. An explicit formula for a stabilizing feedback is provided for affine systems with smooth Lyapunov function. Several examples illustrate the theory.
