Algorithms for embedded monoids and base point free problems

We present algorithms for basic computations with monoids in finitely generated abelian groups such as monoid membership testing and computing an element of the conductor ideal. Applying them to Mori dream spaces, we obtain algorithms to test whether a Weil divisor class of a given Mori dream space is base point free, to compute generators of the monoid of base point free Cartier divisor classes and to test whether a Mori dream space with known canonical class fulfills Fujita's base point free conjecture or not.

On intrinsic quadrics

An intrinsic quadric is a normal projective variety with a Cox ring defined by a single quadratic relation. We provide explicit descriptions of these varieties in the smooth case for small Picard numbers. As applications, we figure out in this setting the Fano examples and (affirmatively) test Fujita's base point free conjecture.

Smooth projective varieties with a torus action of complexity 1 and Picard number 2

We give an explicit description of all smooth varieties with a torus action of complexity one having Picard number at most two. As a consequence, we classify in every dimension the smooth (almost) Fano varieties with a torus action of complexity one having Picard number two. It turns out that all the Fano examples are obtained via an iterated generalized cone construction from a series of smooth varieties of dimension at most seven.
