A bijection between Littlewood-Richardson tableaux and rigged configurations

A bijection is defined from Littlewood-Richardson tableaux to rigged configurations. It is shown that this map preserves the appropriate statistics, thereby proving a quasi-particle expression for the generalized Kostka polynomials, which are q-analogues of multiplicities in tensor products of irreducible general linear group modules indexed by rectangular partitions.

Inhomogeneous lattice paths, generalized Kostka polynomials and A$_{n-1}$ supernomials

Inhomogeneous lattice paths are introduced as ordered sequences of rectangular Young tableaux thereby generalizing recent work on the Kostka polynomials by Nakayashiki and Yamada and by Lascoux, Leclerc and Thibon. Motivated by these works and by Kashiwara's theory of crystal bases we define a statistic on paths yielding two novel classes of polynomials. One of these provides a generalization of the Kostka polynomials while the other, which we name the A$_{n-1}$ supernomial, is a $q$-deformation of the expansion coefficients of products of Schur polynomials. Many well-known results for Kostka polynomials are extended leading to representations of our polynomials in terms of a charge statistic on Littlewood-Richardson tableaux and in terms of fermionic configuration sums. Several identities for the generalized Kostka polynomials and the A$_{n-1}$ supernomials are proven or conjectured. Finally, a connection between the supernomials and Bailey's lemma is made.

An A$_2$ Bailey lemma and Rogers--Ramanujan-type identities

Using new $q$-functions recently introduced by Hatayama et al. and by (two of) the authors, we obtain an A_2 version of the classical Bailey lemma. We apply our result, which is distinct from the A_2 Bailey lemma of Milne and Lilly, to derive Rogers-Ramanujan-type identities for characters of the W_3 algebra.

Supernomial coefficients, polynomial identities and $q$-series

$q$-Analogues of the coefficients of $x^a$ in the expansion of $\prod_{j=1}^N (1+x+...+x^j)^{L_j}$ are proposed. Useful properties, such as recursion relations, symmetries and limiting theorems of the ``$q$-supernomial coefficients'' are derived, and a combinatorial interpretation using generalized Durfee dissection partitions is given. Polynomial identities of boson-fermion-type, based on the continued fraction expansion of $p/k$ and involving the $q$-supernomial coefficients, are proven. These include polynomial analogues of the Andrews-Gordon identities. Our identities unify and extend many of the known boson-fermion identities for one-dimensional configuration sums of solvable lattice models, by introducing multiple finitization parameters.

Rogers-Schur-Ramanujan type identities for the $M(p,p')$ minimal models of conformal field theory

We present and prove Rogers-Schur-Ramanujan (Bose/Fermi) type identities for the Virasoro characters of the minimal model $M(p,p').$ The proof uses the continued fraction decomposition of $p'/p$ introduced by Takahashi and Suzuki for the study of the Bethe's Ansatz equations of the XXZ model and gives a general method to construct polynomial generalizations of the fermionic form of the characters which satisfy the same recursion relations as the bosonic polynomials of Forrester and Baxter. We use this method to get fermionic representations of the characters $χ_{r,s}^{(p,p')}$ for many classes of $r$ and $s.$

A Higher-Level Bailey Lemma: Proof and Application

In a recent letter, new representations were proposed for the pair of sequences ($γ,δ$), as defined formally by Bailey in his famous lemma. Here we extend and prove this result, providing pairs ($γ,δ$) labelled by the Lie algebra A$_{N-1}$, two non-negative integers $\ell$ and $k$ and a partition $λ$, whose parts do not exceed $N-1$. Our results give rise to what we call a ``higher-level'' Bailey lemma. As an application it is shown how this lemma can be applied to yield general $q$-series identities, which generalize some well-known results of Andrews and Bressoud.

A Higher-level Bailey Lemma

We propose a generalization of Bailey's lemma, useful for proving $q$-series identities. As an application, generalizations of Euler's identity, the Rogers-Ramanujan identities, and the Andrews-Gordon identities are derived. This generalized Bailey lemma also allows one to derive identities for the branching functions of higher-level $A^{(1)}_1$ cosets.

Multinomials and Polynomial Bosonic Forms for the Branching Functions of the $\widehat{su}(2)_{M}\times \widehat{su}(2)_{N}/\widehat{su}(2)_{M+N}$ Conformal Coset Models

We give explicit expressions for the q-multinomial generalizations of the q-binomials and Andrews' and Baxter's q-trinomials. We show that the configuration sums for the generalized RSOS models in regime III studied by Date et al. can be expressed in terms of these multinomials. This generalizes the work of ABF and AB where configuration sums of statistical mechanical models have been expressed in terms of binomial and trinomial coefficients. These RSOS configuration sums yield the branching functions for the $\widehat{su}(2)_{M}\times \widehat{su}(2)_{N}/\widehat{su}(2)_{M+N}$ coset models. The representation in terms of multinomials gives Rocha-Caridi like formulas whereas the representation of Date et al. gives a double sum representation for the branching functions.

N=2 Supersymmetry and Bailey Pairs

We demonstrate that the Bailey pair formulation of Rogers-Ramanujan identities unifies the calculations of the characters of $N=1$ and $N=2$ supersymmetric conformal field theories with the counterpart theory with no supersymmetry. We illustrate this construction for the $M(3,4)$ (Ising) model where the Bailey pairs have been given by Slater. We then present the general unitary case. We demonstrate that the model $M(p,p+1)$ is derived from $M(p-1,p)$ by a Bailey renormalization flow and conclude by obtaining the $N=1$ model $SM(p,p+2)$ and the unitary $N=2$ model with central charge $c=3(1-2/p).$

Polynomial Fermionic Forms for the Branching Functions of the Rational Coset Conformal Field Theories $\widehat{su}(2)_{M}\times \widehat{su}(2)_{N}/\widehat{su}(2)_{M+N}$}

General fermionic expressions for the branching functions of the rational coset conformal field theories $\widehat{su}(2)_{M}\times \widehat{su}(2)_N/\widehat{su}(2)_{M+N}$ are given. The equality of the bosonic and fermionic representations for the branching functions is proven by introducing polynomial truncations of these branching functions which are the configuration sums of the RSOS models in regime III. The path space interpretation of the RSOS models provides recursion relations for the configuration sums. The proof of the recursion relations for the fermionic expressions is given by using telescopic expansion techniques. The configuration sums of the RSOS model in regime II which correspond to the branching functions of the $Z_{M+N}$-parafermion conformal field theory are obtained by the duality transformation $q\rightarrow q^{-1}$.
