Continuity of attractors for a highly oscillatory family of perturbations of the square

Consider the family of semilinear parabolic problems \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{lll} u_{t}(x,t) = Δu(x,t) - au(x,t) + f(u(x,t)), \,\,\, x \in Ω_ε, t > 0, \\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial N} (x,t) = g(u(x,t)), \,\,\, x \in \partial Ω_ε, t > 0, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $a > 0$, $Ω$ is the unit square, $Ω_ε = h_ε(Ω)$, $h_ε$ is a family of $C^{m}$ - diffeomorphisms, $m \geq 1$, which converge to the identity of $Ω$ in $C^α$ norm, if $α<1$ but do not converge in the $C^{1}$ - norm and, $f,g: \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ are real functions. We show that a weak version of this problem, transported to the fixed domain $Ω$ by a ``pull-back'' procedure, is well posed for $0 <ε\leq ε_{0}$, $ε_{0} > 0$, in a suitable phase space, the associated semigroup has a global attractor $\mathcal{A}_ε$ and the family $\{ \mathcal{A}_ε \}_{0 \, < \, ε\, \leq \, ε_{0}}$ converges as $ε\to 0$ to the attractor of the limiting problem: \begin{equation*}\ \left\{ \begin{array}{lll} u_{t}(x,t) = Δu(x,t) - au(x,t) + f(u(x,t)), \,\,\, x \in Ω, t > 0, \\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial N} (x,t) = g(u(x,t))μ, \,\,\, x \in \partial Ω, t > 0, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $μ$ is essentially the limit of the Jacobian determinant of the diffeomorphism ${h_ε}_{| \partial Ω} : \partial Ω\rightarrow \partial h_ε(Ω)$ (but does not depend on the particular family $h_ε)$.

Continuity of attractors for $\mathcal{C}^1$ perturbations of a smooth domain

We consider a family of semilinear parabolic problems with nonlinear boundary conditions \[ \left\{ \begin{aligned} u_t(x,t) &=Δu(x,t) -au(x,t) + f(u(x,t)),\ x \in Ω_ε\mbox{ and } t>0\,,\\ \displaystyle\frac{\partial u}{\partial N}(x,t) &=g(u(x,t)),\ x \in \partialΩ_ε\mbox{ and } t>0\,, \end{aligned} \right. \] where $Ω_0 \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is a smooth (at least $\mathcal{C}^2$) domain , $Ω_ε = h_ε(Ω_0)$ and $h_ε$ is a family of diffeomorphisms converging to the identity in the $\mathcal{C}^1$-norm. Assuming suitable regularity and dissipative conditions for the nonlinearites, we show that the problem is well posed for $ε>0$ sufficiently small in a suitable scale of fractional spaces, the associated semigroup has a global attractor $\mathcal{A}_ε$ and the family $\{\mathcal{A}_ε\}$ is continuous at $ε= 0$.

Continuity of attractors for a family of $C^1$ perturbations of the square

We consider here the family of semilinear parabolic problems \begin{equation*} \begin{array}{rcl} \left\{ \begin{array}{rcl} u_t(x,t)&=&Δu(x,t) -au(x,t) + f(u(x,t)) ,\,\,\ x \in Ω_ε\,\,\,\mbox{and}\,\,\,\,\,\,t>0\,, \\ \displaystyle\frac{\partial u}{\partial N}(x,t)&=&g(u(x,t)), \,\, x \in \partialΩ_ε\,\,\,\mbox{and}\,\,\,\,\,\,t>0\,, \end{array} \right. \end{array} \end{equation*} where $ Ω $ is the unit square, $Ω_ε=h_ε(Ω)$ and $h_ε$ is a family of diffeomorphisms converging to the identity in the $C^1$-norm. We show that the problem is well posed for $ε>0$ sufficiently small in a suitable phase space, the associated semigroup has a global attractor $\mathcal{A}_ε$ and the family $\{\mathcal{A}_ε\}$ is continuous at $ε= 0$.

Eigenvalues of the Neumann Laplacian in symmetric regions

In this work we are concerned with the multiplicity of the eigenvalues of the Neumann Laplacian in regions of Rn which are invariant under the natural action of a compact subgroup G of O(n). We give a partial positive answer (in the Neumann case) to a conjecture of V. Arnold [1] on the transversality of the transformation given by the Dirichlet integral to the stratification in the space of quadratic forms according to the multiplicities of the eigenvalues. We show, for some classes of subgroups of O(n) that, generically in the set of G-invariant, C2-regions, the action is irreducible in each eigenspace. These classes include finite subgroups with irreducible representations of dimension not greater than 2 and, in the case n=2, any compact subgroup of O(2). We also obtain some partial results for general compact subgroups of O(n).

Continuity of attractors for a nonlinear parabolic problem with terms concentrating in the boundary

We analyze the dynamics of the flow generated by a nonlinear parabolic problem when some reaction and potential terms are concentrated in a neighborhood of the boundary. We assume that this neighborhood shrinks to the boundary as a parameter εgoes to zero. Also, we suppose that the "inner boundary" of this neighborhood presents a highly oscillatory behavior. Our main goal here is to show the continuity of the family of attractors with respect to ε. Indeed, we prove upper semicontinuity under the usual properties of regularity and dissipativeness and, assuming hyperbolicity of the equilibria, we also show the lower semicontinuity of the attractors at ε=0.

A nonlinear elliptic problem with terms concentrating in the boundary

In this paper we investigate the behavior of a family of steady state solutions of a nonlinear reaction diffusion equation when some reaction and potential terms are concentrated in a $ε$-neighborhood of a portion $Γ$ of the boundary. We assume that this $ε$-neighborhood shrinks to $Γ$ as the small parameter $ε$ goes to zero. Also, we suppose the upper boundary of this $ε$-strip presents a highly oscillatory behavior. Our main goal here is to show that this family of solutions converges to the solutions of a limit problem, a nonlinear elliptic equation that captures the oscillatory behavior. Indeed, the reaction term and concentrating potential are transformed into a flux condition and a potential on $Γ$, which depends on the oscillating neighborhood.
