Singularities in the RG flow

In this work, we show examples when a perturbatively irrelevant operator becomes relevant in the infrared because of the presence of an IR singularity (IR Landau pole). An example of this behavior is the four-fermion interaction that allows the formation of bound states. The reason of the appearance of the IR Landau pole is not the singular loop as in the purely perturbative case, but the infinite number of modes appearing in the RG flow.

Multi-particle quantum-statistical correlation functions in a Hubble-expanding hadron gas

Quantum-statistical correlation measurements in high-energy physics represent an important tool to obtain information about the space-time structure of the particle-emitting source. There are several final state effects which may modify the measured femtoscopic correlation functions. One of these may be the interaction of the investigated particles with the expanding hadron gas, consisting of the other final state particles. This may cause the trajectories - and hence the phases - of the quantum-correlated pairs to be modified compared to free streaming. The resulting effect and could be interpreted as an Aharonov-Bohm-like phenomenon, in the sense that the possible paths of a quantum-correlated pair represent a closed loop, with an internally present field caused by the hadron gas. In this paper, the possible role of the effect in heavy-ion experiments is presented with analytical calculations and a simple numerical model. The modification of the strength of multi-particle Bose-Einstein correlation functions is investigated, and the is found that in case of sufficiently large source density, this effect may play a non-negligible role.

Scale dependence of the q and T parameters of the Tsallis distribution in the process of jet fragmentation

The dependence of the $q$ and $T$ parameters of the Tsallis-distribution-shaped fragmentation function (FF) on the fragmentation scale (found to be equal to the jet mass) is calculated via the resummation of the branching process of jet fragmentation in the leading-log appriximation (LLA) in the $ϕ^3$ theory. Jet and hadron spectra in electron-positron ($e^+e^-$) annihilations with 2- and 3-jet final states are calculated using virtual leading partons. It is found that jets, produced earlier in the branching process, are more energetic, and the energy, angle and multiplicity distributions of hadrons stemming from them are broader. It is also found that replacing the LL resummation in the branching process by a single splitting provides good approximation for the jet energy distribution in 2-jet events. Furthermore, a micro-canonical statistical event generator is presented for the event-by-event calculation of hadron momenta in $e^+e^-$ annihilations.

Reconstruction of observed mechanical motions with Artificial Intelligence tools

The goal of this paper is to determine the laws of observed trajectories assuming that there is a mechanical system in the background and using these laws to continue the observed motion in a plausible way. The laws are represented by neural networks with a limited number of parameters. The training of the networks follows the Extreme Learning Machine idea. We determine laws for different levels of embedding, thus we can represent not only the equation of motion but also the symmetries of different kinds. In the recursive numerical evolution of the system, we require the fulfillment of all the observed laws, within the determined numerical precision. In this way, we can successfully reconstruct both integrable and chaotic motions, as we demonstrate in the example of the gravity pendulum and the double pendulum.

N_f=2+1 flavour equation of state

We conclude our investigation on the QCD equation of state (EoS) with 2+1 staggered flavors and one-link stout improvement. We extend our previous study [JHEP 0601:089 (2006)] by choosing even finer lattices. These new results [for details see arXiv:1007.2580] support our earlier findings. Lattices with N_t=6,8 and 10 are used, and the continuum limit is approached by checking the results at N_t=12. A Symanzik improved gauge and a stout-link improved staggered fermion action is taken; the light and strange quark masses are set to their physical values. Various observables are calculated in the temperature (T) interval of 100 to 1000~MeV. We compare our data to the equation of state obtained by the "hotQCD" collaboration.

The QCD equation of state with dynamical quarks

The present paper concludes our investigation on the QCD equation of state with 2+1 staggered flavors and one-link stout improvement. We extend our previous study [JHEP 0601:089 (2006)] by choosing even finer lattices. Lattices with $N_t=6,8$ and 10 are used, and the continuum limit is approached by checking the results at $N_t=12$. A Symanzik improved gauge and a stout-link improved staggered fermion action is utilized. We use physical quark masses, that is, for the lightest staggered pions and kaons we fix the $m_π/f_K$ and $m_K/f_K$ ratios to their experimental values. The pressure, the interaction measure, the energy and entropy density and the speed of sound are presented as functions of the temperature in the range $100 ...1000 \textmd{MeV}$. We give estimates for the pion mass dependence and for the contribution of the charm quark. We compare our data to the equation of state obtained by the "hotQCD" collaboration.

Shear viscosity of pure Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling

We calculate the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio in pure SU(N) Yang-Mills theory below the critical temperature using the strong coupling expansion. The result for the eta/s ratio for temperatures around the phase transition is 0.22 for N = 2 and 0.028N^2 for N > 2. The results are consistent with the conjectured 1/4pi lower bound inspired by the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Power-law tails from multiplicative noise

We show that the well-known Langevin equation, modeling the Brownian motion and leading to a Gaussian stationary distribution of the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation, is changed by the smallest multiplicative noise. This leads to a power-law tail of the distribution at large enough momenta. At finite ratio of the correlation strength for the multiplicative and additive noise the stationary energy distribution becomes exactly the Tsallis distribution.

Classical Limit in Scalar QFT at High Temperature

It is shown that in a scalar quantum field theory at high temperatures we can compute even time dependent observables from an effective theory, which can be interpreted as a (nonlocal) classical statistical field theory. We examine the retarded Greens function in the local approximation, and define the classical self energy. Its imaginary part agrees with the quantum case in the leading order.

REDUCTION OF THE N-COMPONENT SCALAR MODEL AT TWO LOOP LEVEL

Dimensional reduction of high temperature field theories improves IR features of their perturbative treatment. A crucial question is, what three-dimensional theory is representing the full system the most faithful way. Careful investigation of the induced 3-dimensional counterterm structure of the finite temperature 4D O(N) symmetric scalar theory at 2-loop level leads to proposing the presence of non-local operators in the effective theory. On scales beyond ${\cal O}(T^{-1})$, the scaling behavior of the couplings, consequently, deviates from the usual three-dimensional scaling characteristic for superrenormalizable theories.
