Probing Interacting Dark Sectors with upcoming Post-Reionization and Galaxy Surveys

We investigate the constraining power of future post-reionization and galaxy surveys on possible interactions between dynamical dark energy and dark matter. The analysis focuses on the interaction strength and the dark energy equation of state parameters, in addition to the six standard cosmological parameters. Using fiducial values obtained from the current observational bounds (Planck 2018 + DESI DR2 + Pantheon+), mock datasets for upcoming 21-cm intensity mapping, galaxy clustering and cosmic shear observations from the SKA-mid, and for the upcoming large-scale survey from the Euclid mission, were generated. Subsequently, Markov chain Monte Carlo analyses combining current cosmological data with these mock datasets were performed to forecast parameter constraints. The results indicate that both SKA-mid and Euclid observations can significantly improve constraints on interacting dark sector parameters. In particular, the interaction strength and dark energy equation of state parameters can be constrained considerably tighter than current combined constraints from Planck 2018, DESI DR2 and Pantheon+. Comparing different probe combinations and survey configurations, it is found that SKA2 provides the tightest projected constraints, particularly on the interaction strength, while Euclid achieves a precision broadly comparable to that of SKA1. The results highlight the potential of these upcoming surveys to probe interactions within the dark sector.

Exploring the Co-SIMP dark matter model using the 21-cm signal from the dark ages

The redshifted 21-cm signal from the dark ages offers a powerful probe of cosmological models and the underlying dark matter (DM) microphysics. We investigate deviations from the standard $\Lambda$CDM prediction, an absorption trough of approximately $-40.6\,\mathrm{mK}$ at redshift $z\simeq85.6$, in the context of co-SIMP (strongly interacting massive particle) DM. The co-SIMP interaction strength is encoded by the parameter $C_{\rm int}$, incorporating the masses of DM and standard model (SM) particles, the interaction cross-section, and the amount of heat exchange between the two sectors. Increasing $C_{\rm int}$ deepens the absorption feature and shifts the trough to higher redshifts in the global signal. For $C_{\rm int}=1.0$, the minimum brightness temperature reaches $-50.6,\mathrm{mK}$ at $z\simeq86.2$. The 21-cm power spectrum increases with $C_{\rm int}$ in addition to the global signal. We assess the detectability of these signatures using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and Fisher forecasts. The maximum SNR reaches $\sim 15.7$ for $C_{\rm int}=1.0$ for the global signal. Fisher forecasts for $1,000$ hours of integration time show that this model can be distinguished from a null-signal at $4.3\sigma$ and a mild 1.6$\sigma$ from $\Lambda$CDM, improving by an order of magnitude for 100,000 hours. For the 21-cm power spectrum, a $5,\mathrm{km}^2$ array with 1,000 hours yields a $4.63\sigma$ detection and mildly separated from the standard scenario at $1.78\sigma$. These findings highlight the potential of the 21-cm cosmology to probe the properties of DM and demonstrate that upcoming dark ages experiments, particularly space-based and lunar observations, can offer a promising avenue to test co-SIMP models.

What can we learn about Reionization astrophysical parameters using Gaussian Process Regression?

Reionization is one of the least understood processes in the evolution history of the Universe, mostly because of the numerous astrophysical processes occurring simultaneously about which we do not have a very clear idea so far. In this article, we use the Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) method to learn the reionization history and infer the astrophysical parameters. We reconstruct the UV luminosity density function using the HFF and early JWST data. From the reconstructed history of reionization, the global differential brightness temperature fluctuation during this epoch has been computed. We perform MCMC analysis of the global 21-cm signal using the instrumental specifications of SARAS, in combination with Lyman-$\alpha$ ionization fraction data, Planck optical depth measurements and UV luminosity data. Our analysis reveals that GPR can help infer the astrophysical parameters in a model-agnostic way than conventional methods. Additionally, we analyze the 21-cm power spectrum using the reconstructed history of reionization and demonstrate how the future 21-cm mission SKA, in combination with Planck and Lyman-$\alpha$ forest data, improves the bounds on the reionization astrophysical parameters by doing a joint MCMC analysis for the astrophysical parameters plus 6 cosmological parameters for $\Lambda$CDM model. The results make the GPR-based reconstruction technique a robust learning process and the inferences on the astrophysical parameters obtained therefrom are quite reliable that can be used for future analysis.

Confronting global 21-cm signal with $\mathbb{Z}_3$ symmetric dark matter models

While the $\mathbb{Z}_3$ symmetric dark matter models have shown tremendous prospects in addressing a number of (astro-)particle physics problems, they can leave interesting imprints on cosmological observations as well. We consider two such promising models: semi-annihilating dark matter (SADM) and Co-SIMP $2\rightarrow 3$ interaction, and investigate their effects on the global 21-cm signal. SADM alone cannot address the EDGES dip but can perform better with the aid of an excess radio background, whereas Co-SIMP can naturally explain the EDGES absorption feature by virtue of an intrinsic cooling effect without invoking any such excess radiation. Hence, the latter model turns out to be a rare model within the domain of CDM, that uses leptophilic interaction to achieve the EDGES dip. Further, keeping in mind the ongoing debate between EDGES and SARAS 3 on the global 21-cm signal, we demonstrate that our chosen models can still remain viable in this context, even if the EDGES data requires reassessment in future. We then extend our investigation to possible reflections on the Dark Ages, followed by a consistency check with the CMB and BAO observations via Planck 2018(+BAO) datasets. This work thus presents a compelling case of exploring these interesting particle physics models in the light of different cosmological observations.

Imprints of dark matter-massive neutrino interaction in upcoming post-reionization and galaxy surveys

We explore possible signatures of the interaction between dark matter (DM) and massive neutrinos during the post-reionization epoch. Using both Fisher matrix forecast analysis and Markov Chain Monte-Carlo (MCMC) simulation, we conduct a thorough investigation of the constraints and imprints of the scenario on the upcoming post-reionization and galaxy surveys. Our investigation focuses on two key parameters: the strength of the DM-massive neutrino interaction ($u$) and the total neutrino mass ($M_{\rm tot}$), on top of the usual 6 cosmological parameters. We utilize future 21-cm intensity mapping, galaxy clustering as well as cosmic shear observations in order to investigate the possible constraints of these parameters in the future observations: Square Kilometre Array (SKA1 and SKA2) and Euclid, taking both conservative and realistic approaches. All these missions show promise in constraining both the parameters $u$ and $M_{\rm tot}$ by few orders compared to the current constraints from Planck18 (SKA2 performing the best among them). Although we do not find much improvement in $H_0$ and $σ_8$ tensions from our forecast analysis, SKA2 constrains them better in conservative approach. We further perform a brief investigation of the prospects of some of the next generation Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) missions in combinations with LSS experiments in improving the constraints. Our analysis reveals that both SKA2 and CMB-S4 + Euclid + SKA1 IM2 combination will put the strongest bounds on the model parameters.

Constraints on Dark Matter-Neutrino Interaction from 21-cm Cosmology and Forecasts on SKA1-Low

In this article, we have done a thorough investigation of the possible effects of interaction between dark matter (DM) and neutrinos on reionization history. We have constrained the interaction strength using 21 cm Cosmology and found out possible deviations from standard, non-interacting $Λ$CDM scenario. Comparing the results with the existing constraints from present cosmological observations reveals that 21 cm observations are more competent to constrain the interaction strength by a few orders of magnitude. We have also searched for prospects of detecting any such interaction in the upcoming 21 cm mission SKA1-Low by doing a forecast analysis and error estimation.
