Normalisers of parabolic subgroups of Artin--Tits groups and Tits cone intersections

Let $\Gamma$ be a Coxeter diagram and let $J \subseteq \Gamma$. Motivated by 3-fold flops, Iyama and Wemyss study the hyperplane arrangement in the Tits cone intersection of $J$, which is a $J$-relative generalisation of the classical Coxeter arrangement. For $\Gamma$ of finite-type, we show that its complexified hyperplane complement is a $K(\pi,1)$ space for the normaliser (quotient) of the standard parabolic subgroup of the Artin--Tits group attached to $J$. For general $\Gamma$ we show that Brink--Howlett's groupoid, which describes normalisers of parabolic subgroups of Coxeter groups, has its universal cover described by the wall-and-chamber structure of the Tits cone intersection. We use this to show that wall crossing sequences satisfy an "atomic Matsumoto relation", generalising a theorem of Ko and answering questions raised by Iyama and Wemyss.

Categorical braid group actions and cactus groups

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a semisimple simply-laced Lie algebra of finite type. Let $\mathcal{C}$ be an abelian categorical representation of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ categorifying an integrable representation $V$. The Artin braid group $B$ of $\mathfrak{g}$ acts on $D^b(\mathcal{C})$ by Rickard complexes, providing a triangulated equivalence $\Theta_{w_0}:D^b(\mathcal{C}_\mu) \to D^b(\mathcal{C}_{w_0(\mu)})$, where $\mu$ is a weight of $V$ and $\Theta_{w_0}$ is a positive lift of the longest element of the Weyl group. We prove that this equivalence is t-exact up to shift when $V$ is isotypic, generalising a fundamental result of Chuang and Rouquier in the case $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}_2$. For general $V$, we prove that $\Theta_{w_0}$ is a perverse equivalence with respect to a Jordan-H\"older filtration of $\mathcal{C}$. Using these results we construct, from the action of $B$ on $V$, an action of the cactus group on the crystal of $V$. This recovers the cactus group action on $V$ defined via generalised Sch\"utzenberger involutions, and provides a new connection between categorical representation theory and crystal bases. We also use these results to give new proofs of theorems of Berenstein-Zelevinsky, Rhoades, and Stembridge regarding the action of symmetric group on the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of its Specht modules.

A graphical calculus for the Jack inner product on symmetric functions

Starting from a graded Frobenius superalgebra $B$, we consider a graphical calculus of $B$-decorated string diagrams. From this calculus we produce algebras consisting of closed planar diagrams and of closed annular diagrams. The action of annular diagrams on planar diagrams can be used to make clockwise (or counterclockwise) annular diagrams into an inner product space. Our main theorem identifies this space with the space of symmetric functions equipped with the Jack inner product at Jack parameter $\operatorname{dim} B_\mathrm{even} - \operatorname{dim} B_\mathrm{odd}$. In this way, we obtain a graphical realization of that inner product space.

The Elliptic Hall algebra and the deformed Khovanov Heisenberg category

We give an explicit description of the trace, or Hochschild homology, of the quantum Heisenberg category defined by Licata and Savage. We also show that as an algebra, it is isomorphic to "half" of a central extension of the elliptic Hall algebra of Burban and Schiffmann, specialized at $σ= \barσ^{-1} = q$. A key step in the proof may be of independent interest: we show that the sum (over $n$) of the Hochschild homologies of the positive affine Hecke algebras $\mathrm{AH}_n^+$ is again an algebra, and that this algebra injects into both the elliptic Hall algebra and the trace of the $q$-Heisenberg category. Finally, we show that a natural action of the trace algebra on the space of symmetric functions agrees with the specialization of an action constructed by Schiffmann and Vasserot using Hilbert schemes.

Computing annular Khovanov homology

We define a third grading on Khovanov homology, which is an invariant of annular links but changes by $\pm 1$ under stabilization. We illustrate the use of our computer implementation, and give some example calculations.

A survey of Heisenberg categorification via graphical calculus

In this expository paper we present an overview of various graphical categorifications of the Heisenberg algebra and its Fock space representation. We begin with a discussion of "weak" categorifications via modules for Hecke algebras and "geometrizations" in terms of the cohomology of the Hilbert scheme. We then turn our attention to more recent "strong" categorifications involving planar diagrammatics and derived categories of coherent sheaves on Hilbert schemes.

Odd Khovanov Homology for Hyperplane Arrangements

We define several homology theories for central hyperplane arrangements, categorifying well-known polynomial invariants including the characteristic polynomial, Poincare polynomial, and Tutte polynomial. We consider basic algebraic properties of such chain complexes, including long-exact sequences associated to deletion-restriction triples and dg-algebra structures. We also consider signed hyperplane arrangements, and generalize the odd Khovanov homology of Ozsvath-Rasmussen-Szabo from link projections to signed arrangements. We define hyperplane Reidemeister moves which generalize the usual Reidemeister moves from framed link projections to signed arrangements, and prove that the chain homotopy type associated to a signed arrangement is invariant under hyperplane Reidemeister moves.

Hecke algebras, finite general linear groups, and Heisenberg categorification

We define a category of planar diagrams whose Grothendieck group contains an integral version of the infinite rank Heisenberg algebra, thus yielding a categorification of this algebra. Our category, which is a q-deformation of one defined by Khovanov, acts naturally on the categories of modules for Hecke algebras of type A and finite general linear groups. In this way, we obtain a categorification of the bosonic Fock space. We also develop the theory of parabolic induction and restriction functors for finite groups and prove general results on biadjointness and cyclicity in this setting.

Diagram automorphisms of quiver varieties

We show that the fixed-point subvariety of a Nakajima quiver variety under a diagram automorphism is a disconnected union of quiver varieties for the `split-quotient quiver' introduced by Reiten and Riedtmann. As a special case, quiver varieties of type D arise as the connected components of fixed-point subvarieties of diagram involutions of quiver varieties of type A. In the case where the quiver varieties of type A correspond to small self-dual representations, we show that the diagram involutions coincide with classical involutions of two-row Slodowy varieties. It follows that certain quiver varieties of type D are isomorphic to Slodowy varieties for orthogonal or symplectic Lie algebras.

Vertex operators and 2-representations of quantum affine algebras

We construct 2-representations of quantum affine algebras from 2-representations of quantum Heisenberg algebras. The main tool in this construction are categorical vertex operators, which are certain complexes in a Heisenberg 2-representation that recover vertex operators after passing to the Grothendieck group. As an application we categorify the Frenkel-Kac-Segal homogeneous realization of the basic representation of (simply laced) quantum affine algebras. This gives rise to categorical actions of quantum affine (and toroidal) algebras on derived categories of coherent sheaves on Hilbert schemes of points of ALE spaces.

Quantizations of conical symplectic resolutions II: category $\mathcal O$ and symplectic duality

We define and study category $\mathcal O$ for a symplectic resolution, generalizing the classical BGG category $\mathcal O$, which is associated with the Springer resolution. This includes the development of intrinsic properties parallelling the BGG case, such as a highest weight structure and analogues of twisting and shuffling functors, along with an extensive discussion of individual examples. We observe that category $\mathcal O$ is often Koszul, and its Koszul dual is often equivalent to category $\mathcal O$ for a different symplectic resolution. This leads us to define the notion of a symplectic duality between symplectic resolutions, which is a collection of isomorphisms between representation theoretic and geometric structures, including a Koszul duality between the two categories. This duality has various cohomological consequences, including (conjecturally) an identification of two geometric realizations, due to Nakajima and Ginzburg/Mirkovi\'c-Vilonen, of weight spaces of simple representations of simply-laced simple algebraic groups. An appendix by Ivan Losev establishes a key step in the proof that $\mathcal O$ is highest weight.

Loop realizations of quantum affine algebras

We give a simplified description of quantum affine algebras in their loop presentation. This description is related to Drinfeld's new realization via halves of vertex operators. We also define an idempotent version of the quantum affine algebra which is suitable for categorification.

Braid group actions via categorified Heisenberg complexes

We construct categorical braid group actions from 2-representations of a Heisenberg algebra. These actions are induced by certain complexes which generalize spherical (Seidel-Thomas) twists and are reminiscent of the Rickard complexes defined by Chuang-Rouquier. Conjecturally, one can relate our complexes to Rickard complexes using categorical vertex operators.

Heisenberg categorification and Hilbert schemes

Given a finite subgroup G of SL(2,C) we define an additive 2-category H^G whose Grothendieck group is isomorphic to an integral form of the Heisenberg algebra. We construct an action of H^G on derived categories of coherent sheaves on Hilbert schemes of points on the minimal resolutions of C^2/G.

Whittaker Functions and Demazure Operators

We consider a natural basis of the Iwahori fixed vectors in the Whittaker model of an unramified principal series representation of a split semisimple p- adic group, indexed by the Weyl group. We show that the elements of this basis may be computed from one another by applying Demazure-Lusztig operators. The precise identities involve correction terms, which may be calculated by a combinatorial algorithm that is identical to the computation of the fibers of the Bott-Samelson resolution of a Schubert variety. The Demazure-Lusztig operators satisfy the braid and quadratic relations satisfied by the ordinary Hecke operators, and this leads to an action of the affine Hecke algebra on functions on the maximal torus of the L-group. This action was previously described by Lusztig using equivariant K-theory of the flag variety, leading to the proof of the Deligne-Langlands conjecture by Kazhdan and Lusztig. In the present paper, the action is applied to give a simple formula for the basis vectors of the Iwahori Whittaker functions.

Coherent Sheaves on Quiver Varieties and Categorification

We construct geometric categorical Lie algebra actions on the derived category of coherent sheaves on Nakajima quiver varieties. These actions categorify Nakajima's construction of Kac-Moody algebra representations on the K-theory of quiver varieties. We define an induced affine braid group action on these derived categories.

Hypertoric category O

We study the representation theory of the invariant subalgebra of the Weyl algebra under a torus action, which we call a "hypertoric enveloping algebra." We define an analogue of BGG category O for this algebra, and identify it with a certain category of sheaves on a hypertoric variety. We prove that a regular block of this category is highest weight and Koszul, identify its Koszul dual, compute its center, and study its cell structure. We also consider a collection of derived auto-equivalences analogous to the shuffling and twisting functors for BGG category O.
