Large N limit of Wilson Loops on orientable closed surfaces in the light of Koike-Schur-Weyl duality and Spin Networks

We prove the convergence in probability of Wilson loops under the Yang-Mills measure on any closed, orientable surface of genus larger than two, for large unitary or special unitary groups. Our approach revisits and refines recent arguments for average Wilson loops under the Atiyah-Bott-Goldman measure and for the Yang-Mills measure, using Koike-Schur-Weyl duality and Spin Networks.

Large N limit of Yang-Mills partition function and Wilson loops on compact surfaces

We compute the Large N limit of several objects related to the two-dimensional Euclidean Yang-Mills measure on compact connected orientable surfaces of genus larger or equal to one, with a structure group taken among the classical groups of order N. Our result shows the convergence of all Wilson loops for all loops within a topological disc and all simple loops.

Large N limit of the Yang-Mills measure on compact surfaces II: Makeenko-Migdal equations and planar master field

This paper considers the large N limit of Wilson loops for the two-dimensional Euclidean Yang-Mills measure on all orientable compact surfaces of genus larger or equal to one, with a structure group given by a classical compact matrix Lie group. We show their convergence for all loops on the torus and give a conjecture supported by partial results for other surfaces.

Freeness of type $B$ and conditional freeness for random matrices

The asymptotic freeness of independent unitarily invariant $N\times N$ random matrices holds in expectation up to $O(N^{-2})$. An already known consequence is the infinitesimal freeness in expectation. We put in evidence another consequence for unitarily invariant random matrices: the almost sure asymptotic freeness of type $B$. As byproducts, we recover the asymptotic cyclic monotonicity, and we get the asymptotic conditional freeness. In particular, the eigenvector empirical spectral distribution of the sum of two randomly rotated random matrices converges towards the conditionally free convolution. We also show new connections between infinitesimal freeness, freeness of type $B$, conditional freeness, cyclic monotonicity and monotone independence. Finally, we show rigorously that the BBP phase transition for an additive rank-one perturbation of a GUE matrix is a consequence of the asymptotic conditional freeness, and the arguments extend to the study of the outlier eigenvalues of other unitarily invariant ensembles.

Traffic Distributions and Independence II: Universal Constructions for Traffic Spaces

We investigate questions related to the notion of traffics introduced by the author C. Male as a noncommutative probability space with numerous additional operations and equipped with the notion of traffic independence. We prove that any sequence of unitarily invariant random matrices that converges in noncommutative distribution converges in distribution of traffics whenever it fulfills some factorization property. We provide an explicit description of the limit which allows to recover and extend some applications (on the freeness from the transposed ensembles by Mingo and Popa and the freeness of infinite transitive graphs by Accardi, Lenczewski and Salapata). We also improve the theory of traffic spaces by considering a positivity axiom related to the notion of state in noncommutative probability. We construct the free product of spaces of traffics and prove that it preserves the positivity condition. This analysis leads to our main result stating that every noncommutative probability space endowed with a tracial state can be enlarged and equipped with a structure of space of traffics.

Integer moments of complex Wishart matrices and Hurwitz numbers

We give formulae for the cumulants of complex Wishart (LUE) and inverse Wishart matrices (inverse LUE). Their large-$N$ expansions are generating functions of double (strictly and weakly) monotone Hurwitz numbers which count constrained factorisations in the symmetric group. The two expansions can be compared and combined with a duality relation proved in [F. D. Cunden, F. Mezzadri, N. O'Connell and N. J. Simm, arXiv:1805.08760] to obtain: i) a combinatorial proof of the reflection formula between moments of LUE and inverse LUE at genus zero and, ii) a new functional relation between the generating functions of monotone and strictly monotone Hurwitz numbers. The main result resolves the integrality conjecture formulated in [F. D. Cunden, F. Mezzadri, N. J. Simm and P. Vivo, J. Phys. A 49 (2016)] on the time-delay cumulants in quantum chaotic transport. The precise combinatorial description of the cumulants given here may cast new light on the concordance between random matrix and semiclassical theories.

Large permutation invariant random matrices are asymptotically free over the diagonal

We prove that independent families of permutation invariant random matrices are asymptotically free over the diagonal, both in probability and in expectation, under a uniform boundedness assumption on the operator norm. We can relax the operator norm assumption to an estimate on sums associated to graphs of matrices, further extending the range of applications (for example, to Wigner matrices with exploding moments and so the sparse regime of the Erdős-Rényi model). The result still holds even if the matrices are multiplied entrywise by bounded random variables (for example, as in the case of matrices with a variance profile and percolation models).

Yang-Mills measure and the master field on the sphere

We study the Yang--Mills measure on the sphere with unitary structure group. In the limit where the structure group has high dimension, we show that the traces of loop holonomies converge in probability to a deterministic limit, which is known as the master field on the sphere. The values of the master field on simple loops are expressed in terms of the solution of a variational problem. We show that, given its values on simple loops, the master field is characterized on all loops of finite length by a system of differential equations, known as the Makeenko--Migdal equations. We obtain a number of further properties of the master field. On specializing to families of simple loops, our results identify the high-dimensional limit, in non-commutative distribution, of the Brownian loop in the group of unitary matrices.

The parabolic Anderson model on Riemann surfaces

We show well-posedness for the parabolic Anderson model on $2$-dimensional closed Riemannian manifolds. To this end we extend the notion of regularity structures to curved space, and explicitly construct the minimal structure required for this equation. A central ingredient is the appropriate re-interpretation of the polynomial model, which we build up to any order.

Integration formulas for Brownian motion on classical compact Lie groups

Combinatorial formulas for the moments of the Brownian motion on classical compact Lie groups are obtained. These expressions are deformations of formulas of B. Collins and P. Śniady for moments of the Haar measure and yield a proof of the First Fundamental Theorem of invariant theory and of classical Schur-Weyl dualities based on stochastic calculus.

Free energies and fluctuations for the Unitary Brownian Motion

We show that the Laplace transforms of traces of words in independant unitary Brownian motions converge towards an analytic function on a non trivial disc. This results allow to study asymptotics of Wilson loops under the unitary Yang-Mills measure on the plane. The limiting objects obtained are shown to be characterized by equations analog to Schwinger-Dyson's ones, named here after Makeenko and Migdal.

The generalized master fields

The master field is the large $N$ limit of the Yang-Mills measure on the Euclidean plane. It can be viewed as a non-commutative process indexed by paths on the plane. We construct and study generalized master fields, called free planar Markovian holonomy fields, which are versions of the master field where the law of a simple loop can be as more general as it is possible. We prove that those free planar Markovian holonomy fields can be seen as well as the large $N$ limit of some Markovian holonomy fields on the plane with unitary structure group.

Strong Convergence of Unitary Brownian Motion

The Brownian motion $(U^N_t)_{t\ge 0}$ on the unitary group converges, as a process, to the free unitary Brownian motion $(u_t)_{t\ge 0}$ as $N\to\infty$. In this paper, we prove that it converges strongly as a process: not only in distribution but also in operator norm. In particular, for a fixed time $t>0$, we prove that the spectral measure has a hard edge: there are no outlier eigenvalues in the limit. We also prove an extension theorem: any strongly convergent collection of random matrix ensembles independent from a unitary Brownian motion also converge strongly jointly with the Brownian motion. We give an application of this strong convergence to the Jacobi process.

The strong interaction limit of continuous-time weakly self-avoiding walk

The strong interaction limit of the discrete-time weakly self-avoiding walk (or Domb--Joyce model) is trivially seen to be the usual strictly self-avoiding walk. For the continuous-time weakly self-avoiding walk, the situation is more delicate, and is clarified in this paper. The strong interaction limit in the continuous-time setting depends on how the fugacity is scaled, and in one extreme leads to the strictly self-avoiding walk, in another to simple random walk. These two extremes are interpolated by a new model of a self-repelling walk that we call the "quick step" model. We study the limit both for walks taking a fixed number of steps, and for the two-point function.
