SphericalDreamer: Generating Navigable Immersive 3D Worlds with Panorama Fusion

The generation of immersive and navigable 3D environments is increasingly prevalent with the growing adoption of virtual reality and 3D content. However, recent methods face a fundamental limitation: they cannot produce 3D worlds that simultaneously (i) are navigable over long-range spatial extents and (ii) cover the complete omnidirectional field of view ($360^\circ$ horizontally and $180^\circ$ vertically). To address this challenge, we introduce SphericalDreamer, a method for generating fully immersive and long-range 3D outdoor environments from textual prompts. Our approach is built on the generation of multiple panoramic images, which are subsequently lifted into 3D and fused together while maintaining visual and geometric consistency. SphericalDreamer produces highly detailed, fully immersive 3D environments, while substantially improving scale and navigability compared to prior approaches.

Fused-Planes: Why Train a Thousand Tri-Planes When You Can Share?

Tri-Planar NeRFs enable the application of powerful 2D vision models for 3D tasks, by representing 3D objects using 2D planar structures. This has made them the prevailing choice to model large collections of 3D objects. However, training Tri-Planes to model such large collections is computationally intensive and remains largely inefficient. This is because the current approaches independently train one Tri-Plane per object, hence overlooking structural similarities in large classes of objects. In response to this issue, we introduce Fused-Planes, a novel object representation that improves the resource efficiency of Tri-Planes when reconstructing object classes, all while retaining the same planar structure. Our approach explicitly captures structural similarities across objects through a latent space and a set of globally shared base planes. Each individual Fused-Planes is then represented as a decomposition over these base planes, augmented with object-specific features. Fused-Planes showcase state-of-the-art efficiency among planar representations, demonstrating $7.2 \times$ faster training and $3.2 \times$ lower memory footprint than Tri-Planes while maintaining rendering quality. An ultra-lightweight variant further cuts per-object memory usage by $1875 \times$ with minimal quality loss. Our project page can be found at https://fused-planes.github.io .

Bringing NeRFs to the Latent Space: Inverse Graphics Autoencoder

While pre-trained image autoencoders are increasingly utilized in computer vision, the application of inverse graphics in 2D latent spaces has been under-explored. Yet, besides reducing the training and rendering complexity, applying inverse graphics in the latent space enables a valuable interoperability with other latent-based 2D methods. The major challenge is that inverse graphics cannot be directly applied to such image latent spaces because they lack an underlying 3D geometry. In this paper, we propose an Inverse Graphics Autoencoder (IG-AE) that specifically addresses this issue. To this end, we regularize an image autoencoder with 3D-geometry by aligning its latent space with jointly trained latent 3D scenes. We utilize the trained IG-AE to bring NeRFs to the latent space with a latent NeRF training pipeline, which we implement in an open-source extension of the Nerfstudio framework, thereby unlocking latent scene learning for its supported methods. We experimentally confirm that Latent NeRFs trained with IG-AE present an improved quality compared to a standard autoencoder, all while exhibiting training and rendering accelerations with respect to NeRFs trained in the image space. Exploring 3D-aware Latent Spaces for Efficiently Learning Numerous Scenes

We present a method enabling the scaling of NeRFs to learn a large number of semantically-similar scenes. We combine two techniques to improve the required training time and memory cost per scene. First, we learn a 3D-aware latent space in which we train Tri-Plane scene representations, hence reducing the resolution at which scenes are learned. Moreover, we present a way to share common information across scenes, hence allowing for a reduction of model complexity to learn a particular scene. Our method reduces effective per-scene memory costs by 44% and per-scene time costs by 86% when training 1000 scenes. Our project page can be found at https://3da-ae.github.io .

3DGEN: A GAN-based approach for generating novel 3D models from image data

The recent advances in text and image synthesis show a great promise for the future of generative models in creative fields. However, a less explored area is the one of 3D model generation, with a lot of potential applications to game design, video production, and physical product design. In our paper, we present 3DGEN, a model that leverages the recent work on both Neural Radiance Fields for object reconstruction and GAN-based image generation. We show that the proposed architecture can generate plausible meshes for objects of the same category as the training images and compare the resulting meshes with the state-of-the-art baselines, leading to visible uplifts in generation quality.

RefinedFields: Radiance Fields Refinement for Planar Scene Representations

Planar scene representations have recently witnessed increased interests for modeling scenes from images, as their lightweight planar structure enables compatibility with image-based models. Notably, K-Planes have gained particular attention as they extend planar scene representations to support in-the-wild scenes, in addition to object-level scenes. However, their visual quality has recently lagged behind that of state-of-the-art techniques. To reduce this gap, we propose RefinedFields, a method that leverages pre-trained networks to refine K-Planes scene representations via optimization guidance using an alternating training procedure. We carry out extensive experiments and verify the merit of our method on synthetic data and real tourism photo collections. RefinedFields enhances rendered scenes with richer details and improves upon its base representation on the task of novel view synthesis.
