Distribution of prime geodesic traces

This note complements a recent paper of Chatzakos, Harcos and Kaneko \cite{CHK}. We use a Dirichlet style Prime Geodesic Theorem to improve the error term estimate in loc. cit. at the cost of lowering the resolution. The proof relies on the Selberg trace formula.

Benjamini-Schramm and spectral convergence II. The non-homogeneous case

The equivalence of spectral convergence and Benjamini-Schramm convergence is extended from homogeneous spaces to spaces which are compact modulo isometry group. The equivalence is proven under the condition of a uniform discreteness property. It is open, which implications hold without this condition.

A spectral theorem for compact representations and non-unitary cusp forms

We show that a compact representation of a semisimple Lie group has an orthogonal decomposition into finite length representations. This generalises and simplifies a number of more special spectral theorems in the literature. We apply it to the case of cusp forms, thus settling the spectral theory for the space of non-unitary twisted cusp forms.

Geometric zeta functions with non-unitary twists

It is shown that the zeta functions of Ruelle and Selberg admit analytic continuation to meromorphic functions on the plane for every compact locally-symmetric space and every non-unitary twist.

Ihara zeta functions and class numbers

The prime geodesic theorem for cycles in Bruhat-Tits buildings is applied to unit groups of division algebras to derive new asymptotic assertion on class numbers of orders in imaginary quadratic fields.

Building lattices and zeta functions

We introduce the notion of a building lattice generalizing tree lattices. We give a Lefschetz formula and apply it to geometric zeta functions. We further generalize Bass's approach to Ihara zeta functions to the higher dimensional case of a building.

Weighted prime geodesic theorems

Prime geodesic theorems for weighted infinite graphs and weighted building quotients are given. The growth rates are expressed in terms of the spectral data of suitable translation operators inspired by a paper of Bass.

Spectral theory for non-unitary twists

Let $G$ be a Lie-group and $\Ga\subset G$ a cocompact lattice. For a finite-dimensional, not necessarily unitary representation $\om$ of $\Ga$ we show that the $G$-representation on $L^2(\Ga\bs G,\om)$ admits a complete filtration with irreducible quotients. As a consequence, we show the trace formula for non-unitary twists and arbitrary locally compact groups.

Benjamini-Schramm and spectral convergence

It is shown that under mild conditions, Benjamini-Schramm convergence of lattices in locally compact groups is equivalent to spectral convergence. Next both notions are extended to the relative case and are then expressed in terms of relative L2-theory.

Eisenstein series with non-unitary twists

It is shown that for a non-unitary twist of a Fuchsian group, which is unitary at the cusps, Eisenstein series converge in some half-plane. It is shown that invariant integral operators provide a spectral decomposition of the space of cusp forms and that Eisenstein series admit a meromorphic continuation.

Closed geodesics and bounded gaps

The bounded gaps property of the prime numbers, as proven by Yitang Zhang, is considered for sequences of lengths of closed geodesics, which by the theory of Selberg zeta functions are the geometric analogue of the prime numbers. It turns out that the property holds for congruence subgroups and is false for a dense set in Teichmüller space.

A prime Geodesic Theorem for SL3(Z)

We show a Prime Geodesic Theorem for the group SL3(Z), counting those geodesics whose lifts lie in the split Cartan subgroup. This is the first arithmetic Prime Geodesic Theorem of higher rank for a non-cocompact group.

On Haar systems for groupoids

It is shown that a locally compact groupoid with open range map does not always admit a Haar system. It then is shown how to construct a Haar system if the stability groupoid and the quotient by the stability groupoid both admit one.

Invariants, cohomology, and automorphic forms of higher order

A general structure theorem on higher order invariants is proven. For an arithmetic group, the structure of the corresponding Hecke module is determined. It is shown that the module does not contain any irreducible submodule. This explains the fact that L-functions of higher order forms have no Euler-product. Higher order cohomology is introduced, classical results of Borel are generalized and a higher order version of Borel's conjecture is stated.

Lewis-Zagier correspondence for higher order forms

The Lewis-Zagier correspondence, which attaches period functions to Maaß wave forms, is extended to wave forms of higher order, which are higher invariants of the Fuchsian group in question. The key ingredient is an identification of Higher order invariants with ordinary invariants of unipotent twists. This makes it possible to apply standard methods of automorphic forms to higher order forms.

Higher order invariants in the case of compact quotients

We present the theory of higher order invariants and higher order automorphic forms in the simplest case, that of a compact quotient. In this case many things simplify and we are thus able to prove a more precise structure theorem than in the general case.

Belian categories

We instal homological algebra, including derived functors, on certain non-additive categories like categories of pointed CW-complexes, modules of monoids or sheaves thereof. We apply this theory to Monoid schemes and sheaves on them, compare the result with the base change and prove several structural theorems.
