Differential characters as stacks and prequantization

We generalize geometric prequantization of symplectic manifolds to differentiable stacks. Our approach is atlas-independent and provides a bijection between isomorphism classes of principal circle bundles (with or without connections) and second cohomology groups of certain chain complexes.

Quiver varieties and Lusztig's algebra

We study preprojective algebras of graphs and their relationship to module categories over representations of quantum SL(2). As an application, ADE quiver varieties of Nakajima are shown to be subvarieties of the variety of representations of a certain associative algebra introduced by Lusztig.

The minimal degeneration singularities in the affine Grassmannians

The minimal degeneration singularities in the affine Grassmannians of simple simply-laced algebraic groups are determined to be either Kleinian singularities of type A, or closures of minimal orbits in nilpotent cones. The singularities for non-simply-laced types are studied by intersection cohomology and equivariant Chow group methods.

Quiver varieties, affine Lie algebras, algebras of BPS states, and semicanonical basis

We suggest a (conjectural) construction of a basis in the plus part of the affine Lie algebra of type ADE indexed by irreducible components of certain quiver varieties. This construction is closely related to a string-theoretic construction of a Lie algebra of BPS states. We then study the new combinatorial questions about the (classical) root systems naturally arising from our constructions and Lusztig's semicanonical basis.

Tensor product varieties and crystals. ADE case

Let g be a simple simply laced Lie algebra. In this paper two families of varieties associated to the Dynkin graph of g are described: ``tensor product'' and ``multiplicity'' varieties. These varieties are closely related to Nakajima's quiver varieties and should play an important role in the geometric constructions of tensor products and intertwining operators. In particular it is shown that the set of irreducible components of a tensor product variety can be equipped with a structure of g-crystal isomorphic to the crystal of the canonical basis of the tensor product of several simple finite dimensional representations of g, and that the number of irreducible components of a multiplicity variety is equal to the multiplicity of a certain representation in the tensor product of several others. Moreover the decomposition of a tensor product into a direct sum is described geometrically (on the level of crystals).

Tensor product varieties and crystals. GL case

The role of Spaltenstein varieties in the tensor product for GL is explained. In particular a direct (non-combinatorial) proof of the fact that the number of irreducible components of a Spaltenstein variety is equal to a Littlewood-Richardson coefficient (i.e. certain tensor product multiplicity) is obtained.

Affine Lie Algebras and Tame Quivers

C.M. Ringel defined Hall algebra associated with the category of representations of a quiver of Dynkin type and gave an explicit description of the structure constants of the corresponding Lie algebra. We utilize functorial properties of the Hall algebra to give a simple proof of Ringel's result, and to generalize it to the case of a quiver of affine type.

Lie Group Valued Moment Maps

We develop a theory of "quasi"-Hamiltonian G-spaces for which the moment map takes values in the group G itself rather than in the dual of the Lie algebra. The theory includes counterparts of Hamiltonian reductions, the Guillemin-Sternberg symplectic cross-section theorem and of convexity properties of the moment map. As an application we obtain moduli spaces of flat connections on an oriented compact 2-manifold with boundary as quasi-Hamiltonian quotients of the space G^2 x ... x G^2.
