Bilinear formalism for Schwarzian KP and Harry Dym hierarchies

We consider the Schwarzian KP and Harry Dym hierarchies in the framework of the bilinear formalism which is well known for such integrable hierarchies as KP, modified KP, BKP, Toda lattice and other. We show that, similarly to the bilinear formulation of the modified KP hierarchy, the Schwarzian KP can be reformulated as an integral bilinear equation for a pair of KP tau-functions with the property that any linear combination of them is again a tau function of the KP hierarchy. The Harry Dym hierarchy is then obtained as the Lax-Sato formulation of the SchKP one. The close connection with Backlund-Darboux transformations for integrable hierarchies is also discussed. Besides, it is shown that the SchKP hierarchy has a natural embedding into the multi-component KP hierarchy.

Dispersionless version of the constrained Toda hierarchy and symmetric radial Löwner equation

We study the dispersionless version of the recently introduced constrained Toda hierarchy. Like the Toda lattice itself, it admits three equivalent formulations: the formulation in terms of Lax equations, the formulation of the Zakharov-Shabat type and the formulation through the generating equation for the dispersionless limit of logarithm of the tau-function. We show that the dispersionless constrained Toda hierarchy describes conformal maps of reflection-symmetric planar domains to the exterior of the unit disc. We also find finite-dimensional reductions of the hierarchy and show that they are characterized by a differential equation of the Löwner type which we call the symmetric radial Löwner equation. It is also shown that solutions to the symmetric radial Löwner equation are conformal maps of the exterior of the unit circle with two symmetric slits to the exterior of the unit circle.

Supersymmetric quantum spin chains and classical integrable systems

For integrable inhomogeneous supersymmetric spin chains (generalized graded magnets) constructed employing Y(gl(N|M))-invariant R-matrices in finite-dimensional representations we introduce the master T-operator which is a sort of generating function for the family of commuting quantum transfer matrices. Any eigenvalue of the master T-operator is the tau-function of the classical mKP hierarchy. It is a polynomial in the spectral parameter which is identified with the 0-th time of the hierarchy. This implies a remarkable relation between the quantum supersymmetric spin chains and classical many-body integrable systems of particles of the Ruijsenaars-Schneider type. As an outcome, we obtain a system of algebraic equations for the spectrum of the spin chain Hamiltonians.

The master T-operator for the Gaudin model and the KP hierarchy

Following the approach of [arXiv:1112.3310], we construct the master T -operator for the quantum Gaudin model with twisted boundary conditions and show that it satisfies the bilinear identity and Hirota equations for the classical KP hierarchy. We also characterize the class of solutions to the KP hierarchy that correspond to eigenvalues of the master T-operator and study dynamics of their zeros as functions of the spectral parameter. This implies a remarkable connection between the quantum Gaudin model and the classical Calogero-Moser system of particles.

The Master T-Operator for Inhomogeneous XXX Spin Chain and mKP Hierarchy

Following the approach of [Alexandrov A., Kazakov V., Leurent S., Tsuboi Z., Zabrodin A., J. High Energy Phys. 2013 (2013), no. 9, 064, 65 pages, arXiv:1112.3310], we show how to construct the master T-operator for the quantum inhomogeneous GL(N) XXX spin chain with twisted boundary conditions. It satisfies the bilinear identity and Hirota equations for the classical mKP hierarchy. We also characterize the class of solutions to the mKP hierarchy that correspond to eigenvalues of the master T-operator and study dynamics of their zeros as functions of the spectral parameter. This implies a remarkable connection between the quantum spin chain and the classical Ruijsenaars-Schneider system of particles.

Free fermions and tau-functions

We review the formalism of free fermions used for construction of tau-functions of classical integrable hierarchies and give a detailed derivation of group-like properties of the normally ordered exponents, transformations between different normal orderings, the bilinear relations, the generalized Wick theorem and the bosonization rules. We also consider various examples of tau-functions and give their fermionic realization.

Classical tau-function for quantum spin chains

For an arbitrary generalized quantum integrable spin chain we introduce a "master T -operator" which represents a generating function for commuting quantum transfer matrices constructed by means of the fusion procedure in the auxiliary space. We show that the functional relations for the transfer matrices are equivalent to an infinite set of model-independent bilinear equations of the Hirota form for the master T -operator, which allows one to identify it with τ-function of an integrable hierarchy of classical soliton equations. In this paper we consider spin chains with rational GL(N)-invariant R-matrices but the result is independent of a particular functional form of the transfer matrices and directly applies to quantum integrable models with more general (trigonometric and elliptic) R-matrices and to supersymmetric spin chains.

Supersymmetric Bethe Ansatz and Baxter Equations from Discrete Hirota Dynamics

We show that eigenvalues of the family of Baxter Q-operators for supersymmetric integrable spin chains constructed with the gl(K|M)-invariant $R$-matrix obey the Hirota bilinear difference equation. The nested Bethe ansatz for super spin chains, with any choice of simple root system, is then treated as a discrete dynamical system for zeros of polynomial solutions to the Hirota equation. Our basic tool is a chain of Backlund transformations for the Hirota equation connecting quantum transfer matrices. This approach also provides a systematic way to derive the complete set of generalized Baxter equations for super spin chains.

Löwner equations and dispersionless hierarchies

Using the Hirota representation of dispersionless dKP and dToda hierarchies, we show that the chordal Löwner equations and radial Löwner equations respectively serve as consistency conditions for one variable reductions of these integrable hierarchies. We also clarify the geometric meaning of this result by relating it to the eigenvalue distribution of normal random matrices in the large N limit.

Singular limit of Hele-Shaw flow and dispersive regularization of shock waves

We study a family of solutions to the Saffman-Taylor problem with zero surface tension at a critical regime. In this regime, the interface develops a thin singular finger. The flow of an isolated finger is given by the Whitham equations for the KdV integrable hierarchy. We show that the flow describing bubble break-off is identical to the Gurevich-Pitaevsky solution for regularization of shock waves in dispersive media. The method provides a scheme for the continuation of the flow through singularites.

Integrable Structure of Interface Dynamics

We establish the equivalence of a 2D contour dynamics to the dispersionless limit of the integrable Toda hierarchy constrained by a string equation. Remarkably, the same hierarchy underlies 2D quantum gravity.

Whitham-Toda Hierarchy in the Laplacian Growth Problem

The Laplacian growth problem in the limit of zero surface tension is proved to be equivalent to finding a particular solution to the dispersionless Toda lattice hierarchy. The hierarchical times are harmonic moments of the growing domain. The Laplacian growth equation itself is the quasiclassical version of the string equation that selects the solution to the hierarchy.
