Noncentral moderate deviations for time-changed Lévy processes with inverse of stable subordinators

In this paper we present some extensions of recent noncentral moderate deviation results in the literature. In the first part we generalize the results in \cite{BeghinMacciSPL2022} by considering a general Lévy process $\{S(t):t\geq 0\}$ instead of a compound Poisson process. In the second part we assume that $\{S(t):t\geq 0\}$ has bounded variation and is not a subordinator; thus $\{S(t):t\geq 0\}$ can be seen as the difference of two independent non-null subordinators. In this way we generalize the results in \cite{LeeMacci} for Skellam processes.

A cyclic random motion in $\mathbb{R}^3$ driven by geometric counting processes

We consider the random motion of a particle that moves with constant velocity in $\mathbb{R}^3$. The particle can move along four directions with different speeds that are attained cyclically. It follows that the support of the stochastic process describing the particle's position at time $t$ is a tetrahedron. We assume that the sequence of sojourn times along each direction follows a geometric counting process (GCP). When the initial velocity is fixed, we obtain the explicit form of the probability law of the process $\boldsymbol{X}(t) = (X_1(t);X_2(t);X_3(t))$, $t > 0$, for the particle's position. We also investigate the limiting behavior of the related probability density when the intensities of the four GCPs tend to infinity. Furthermore, we show that the process does not admit a stationary density. Finally, we introduce the first-passage-time problem for the first component of $\boldsymbol{X}(t)$ through a constant positive boundary $β> 0$ providing the bases for future developments.

A network-constrain Weibull AFT model for biomarkers discovery

We propose AFTNet, a novel network-constraint survival analysis method based on the Weibull accelerated failure time (AFT) model solved by a penalized likelihood approach for variable selection and estimation. When using the log-linear representation, the inference problem becomes a structured sparse regression problem for which we explicitly incorporate the correlation patterns among predictors using a double penalty that promotes both sparsity and grouping effect. Moreover, we establish the theoretical consistency for the AFTNet estimator and present an efficient iterative computational algorithm based on the proximal gradient descent method. Finally, we evaluate AFTNet performance both on synthetic and real data examples.

On the telegraph process driven by geometric counting process with Poisson-based resetting

We investigate the effects of the resetting mechanism to the origin for a random motion on the real line characterized by two alternating velocities $v_1$ and $v_2$. We assume that the sequences of random times concerning the motions along each velocity follow two independent geometric counting processes of intensity $λ$, and that the resetting times are Poissonian with rate $ξ>0$. Under these assumptions we obtain the probability laws of the modified telegraph process describing the position and the velocity of the running particle. Our approach is based on the Markov property of the resetting times and on the knowledge of the distribution of the intertimes between consecutive velocity changes. We obtain also the asymptotic distribution of the particle position when (i) $λ$ tends to infinity, and (ii) the time goes to infinity. In the latter case the asymptotic distribution arises properly as an effect of the resetting mechanism. A quite different behavior is observed in the two cases when $v_2<0<v_1$ and $0<v_2<v_1$. Furthermore, we focus on the determination of the moment-generating function and on the main moments of the process describing the particle position under reset. Finally, we analyse the mean-square distance between the process subject to resets and the same process in absence of resets. Quite surprisingly, the lowest mean-square distance can be found for $ξ=0$, for a positive $ξ$, or for $ξ\to +\infty$ depending on the choice of the other parameters.

Asymptotic results for the absorption time of telegraph processes with a non-standard barrier at the origin

A telegraph process with an elastic barrier at the origin was studied in [5]; in particular the number of visits of the origin before the absorption is a geometric distributed random variable M. Some asymptotic results (large and moderate deviations) for that model were obtained in [17]. In this paper we study large and moderate deviations for a generalized model where M is a light-tailed distributed random variable.

A generalized telegraph process with velocity driven by random trials

We consider a random trial-based telegraph process, which describes a motion on the real line with two constant velocities along opposite directions. At each epoch of the underlying counting process the new velocity is determined by the outcome of a random trial. Two schemes are taken into account: Bernoulli trials and classical Pólya urn trials. We investigate the probability law of the process and the mean of the velocity of the moving particle. We finally discuss two cases of interest: (i) the case of Bernoulli trials and intertimes having exponential distributions with linear rates (in which, interestingly, the process exhibits a logistic stationary density with non-zero mean), and (ii) the case of Pólya trials and intertimes having first Gamma and then exponential distributions with constant rates.

On a bilateral birth-death process with alternating rates

We consider a bilateral birth-death process characterized by a constant transition rate $λ$ from even states and a possibly different transition rate $μ$ from odd states. We determine the probability generating functions of the even and odd states, the transition probabilities, mean and variance of the process for arbitrary initial state. Some features of the birth-death process confined to the non-negative integers by a reflecting boundary in the zero-state are also analyzed. In particular, making use of a Laplace transform approach we obtain a series form of the transition probability from state 1 to the zero-state.
