The sensitivity to BSM in di-taon production at the LHC

We discuss the sensitivity of the $γγ\to τ^+τ^-$ process in ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collisions at LHC energies on the anomalous magnetic moment of $τ$ lepton ($a_τ$). We derive the corresponding cross sections considering semi-leptonic decays of both leptons in the fiducial volume of ATLAS and CMS detectors. The expected limits on $a_τ$ with the existing Pb+Pb dataset are found to be better by a factor of two comparing to current best experimental limits and can be further improved by another factor of two at High Luminosity LHC. In addition, our results for tau lepton electric dipole moment, $d_τ$, can be competitive with the current best limits that were obtained by the Belle experiment.

Central exclusive production of $η_c$ and $χ_{c0}$ in the light-front k$_{\perp}$-factorization approach

We study the exclusive production of $J^{PC}=0^{++}, 0^{--}$ charmonium states in proton-proton collisions at the LHC energies The $pp \to ppη_c$ reaction is discussed for the first time. We observe a substantial contribution from the nonperturbative domain of gluon virtualities, especially for $η_c$ production. To model the nonperturbative region better, we utilize models of the unintegrated gluon distribution based on parametrizations of the color dipole cross-section.

Intrinsic charm in the nucleon and forward production of charm: a new constrain from IceCube Neutrino Observatory

The predictions for the atmospheric neutrino flux at high energies strongly depend on the contribution of prompt neutrinos, which are determined by the production of charmed meson in the atmosphere at very forward rapidities. Here we estimate the related cross sections taking into account the presence of an intrinsic charm (IC) component in the proton wave function. The impact on the predictions for the prompt neutrino flux is investigated assuming different values for the probability to find the IC in the nucleon.

Central exclusive diffractive production of axial-vector $f_{1}$ mesons in proton-proton collisions

Exclusive production of axial-vector $f_{1}(1285)$ meson in proton-proton collisions via pomeron-pomeron fusion within the tensor-pomeron approach is discussed. Two ways to construct the pomeron-pomeron-$f_{1}$ coupling are presented. We adjust the parameters of our model to the WA102 experimental data and compare with predictions of the Sakai-Sugimoto model. Predictions for LHC experiments are given.

Central dileption production in proton-proton collisions with rapidity gap and with forward protons

We discuss photon-photon fusion mechanisms of dilepton production in proton-proton collisions with rapidity gap in the main detector and one forward proton in the forward proton detectors. This is relevant for the LHC measurements by ATLAS+AFP and CMS+PPS. Transverse momenta of the intermediate photons are taken into account and photon fluxes are expressed in terms of proton electromagnetic form factors and structure functions. Both double-elastic and single-dissociative processes are included in the analysis. Different parametrizations of the structure functions are used. Some differential distributions are presented. Some differences with respect to the results without proton measurement are discussed.

Prompt hadroproduction of C-even quarkonia in the light-front $k_T$ -factorization approach

We present a new approach for the prompt production of quarkonia which is based on the $k_T$-factorization method. The production of even C-parity quarkonia proceeds via the fusion of two (off-shell) gluons. Especially in the kinematics of the LHCb experiment these processes are thus expected to be a sensitive probe of the small-$x$ gluon distribution. We calculate the relevant off-shell matrix elements in terms of the light-front wave functions of the quarkonium states. We present our results for scalar and pseudoscalar charmonia and discuss photon transition form factors as well as cross sections for prompt hadroproduction. We compare our results for the $η_c$ to recent LHCb data.

Impact of intrinsic charm amount in the nucleon and saturation effects on the prompt atmospheric $ν_μ$ flux for IceCube

The predictions for the atmospheric neutrino flux at high energies strongly depend on the contribution of prompt neutrinos, which are determined by the production of charmed meson in the atmosphere at very forward rapidities. In this paper we estimate the related cross sections taking into account the presence of an intrinsic charm (IC) component in the proton wave function and the QCD dynamics modified by the onset of saturation effects. The impact on the predictions for the prompt neutrino flux is investigated assuming different values for the probability to find the IC in the nucleon. Comparison with the IceCube data is performed and conclusions are drawn.

Semiexclusive dilepton production in proton-proton collisions with one forward proton measurement at the LHC

Differential distributions in $ξ_{1/2}$, $M_{ll}$, $Y_{ll}$, $p_{t,ll}$, $M_R$ %pamietac wyjasnic M_R w tekscie are shown and the competition of different mechanisms is discussed. Both double-elastic and single-dissociative processes are included in the analysis. Different parametrizations of the structure functions are used. We discuss also mechanism with one forward $Δ^+$ isobar, or other proton resonances in the final state. The role of several cuts is studied. We also use SuperChic generator and compare corresponding results to the results of our codes. The soft rapidity gap survival factor is calculated for each contribution separately. The gap survival factor for the single-dissociative mechanism due to minijet emission into the main detector is calculated in addition. It depends on the type of contribution (fully elastic, single dissociation, double dissociation). The soft rapidity gap survival factor for the case of single proton measurement is significantly smaller than that for the inclusive case (no proton measurement). We find only weak dependence on the invariant mass of the dilepton system as well as the lepton pair transverse momentum and sizeable dependence on the pair rapidity. The latter effect is rather difficult to identify experimentally.

Exclusive $f_{1}(1285)$ meson production for energy ranges available at the GSI-FAIR with HADES and PANDA

We evaluate the cross section for the $p p \to p p f_{1}(1285)$ and $p \bar{p} \to p \bar{p} f_{1}(1285)$ reactions at near threshold energies relevant for the HADES and PANDA experiments at GSI-FAIR. We assume that at energies close to the threshold the $ωω\to f_{1}(1285)$ and $ρ^{0} ρ^{0} \to f_{1}(1285)$ fusion processes are the dominant production mechanisms. The vertex for the $VV \to f_{1}$ coupling is derived from an effective coupling Lagrangian. The $g_{ρρf_1}$ coupling constant is extracted from the decay rate of $f_{1}(1285) \to ρ^{0} γ$ using the vector-meson-dominance ansatz. We assume $g_{ωωf_1} = g_{ρρf_1}$, equality of these two coupling constants, based on arguments from the naive quark model and vector-meson dominance. The amplitude for the $VV \to f_{1}$ fusion, supplemented by phenomenological vertex form factors for the process, is given. The differential cross sections at energies close to the threshold are calculated. In order to determine the parameters of the model the $γp \to f_{1}(1285) p$ reaction is discussed in addition and results are compared with the CLAS data. The possibility of a measurement by HADES@GSI is presented and discussed. We performed a Monte Carlo feasibility simulations of the $p p \to p p f_1$ reaction for $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.46 GeV in the $π^+ π^- π^+ π^-$ (not shown explicitly) and $π^+ π^- π^+ π^- π^0$ final states using the PLUTO generator. The latter one is especially promising as a peak in the $π^+ π^- η$ should be observable by HADES.

Two-gluon production of $ϕ$ and $η'$ mesons in proton-proton collisions at high energies

We discuss gluon-gluon mechanisms for production of mesons with hidden strangeness, such as $η'$ and $ϕ$ meson, in proton-proton collisions at large energies. The $g^* g^* \to η'$ and $g^* g^* \to ϕg$ mechanisms are considered only and the corresponding cross sections are calculated in the $k_t$-factorization approach. The $F_{γ^* γ^* \to η'}$ and $F_{g^* g^* \to η'}$ form factors are calculated from quark-antiquark $η'$ light-cone wave function including quark/antiquark transverse momenta. The result for two-photon transition form factor demonstrates that higher twists may survive even to large photon virtualities. The result is compared with the result of a recent leading-twist NLO analysis which uses phenomenological distribution amplitudes fitted to exclusive production of $η'$ in $e^+ e^- \to e^+ e^- η'$ reaction. We calculate transverse momentum distributions of both $η'$ and $ϕ$ mesons in proton-proton collisions for RHIC and LHC energies. The results are compared to experimental data whenever available. The results of the Lund string model are shown for comparison for $η'$ production at LHC energies. It seems that the two-gluon fusion is not the dominant mechanism for both $ϕ$ and $η'$ production, although the situation for $η'$, especially at larger energies, is less clear due to lack of experimental data.

Centrality dependence of dilepton production via $γγ$ processes from Wigner distributions of photons in nuclei

We propose a new complete method, based on the Wigner distributions of photons, how to calculate differential distributions of dileptons created via photon-photon fusion in semicentral ($b<2R_A$) $AA$ collisions. The formalism is used to calculate different distributions of invariant mass, dilepton transverse momentum and acoplanarity for different regions of centrality. The results of calculation are compared with recent STAR, ALICE and ATLAS experimental data. Very good agreement with the data is achieved without free parameters and without including additional mechanisms such as a possible rescattering of leptons in the quark-gluon plasma.

Fire streaks, electromagnetic effects, directed flow and lifetime of the plasma at SPS energies

We present our calculation of electromagnetic effects, induced by the spectator charge on Feynman-$x_F$ distributions of charged pions in peripheral $Pb+Pb$ collisions at CERN SPS energies, including realistic initial space-time-momentum conditions for pion emission. The calculation is performed in the framework of a specific implementation of the fire-streak model, adopted to the production of both $π^-$ and $π^+$ mesons. Isospin effects are included to take into account the asymmetry in production of $π^+$ and $π^-$ at high rapidity. A comparison to a simplified model from the literature is made. We obtain a good description of the NA49 data on the $x_F$- and $p_T$-dependence of the ratio of cross sections $π^+/π^-$. The experimental data favors short times ($0.5<τ<2$~fm/$c$) for fast pion creation in the local fire-streak rest frame. The possibility of the expansion of the spectators is considered in our calculation, and its influence on the electromagnetic effect observed for the $π^+/π^-$ ratio is discussed. The influence of directed and elliptic flow, and vorticity on the observed effect is also estimated. We conclude that the fire-streak model, which properly describes the centrality dependence of $π^-$ rapidity spectra at CERN SPS energies, also provides realistic initial conditions for pion production. Consequently, it provides a quantitative description of the electromagnetic effect on the $π^+/π^-$ ratio as a function of $x_F$.

Production of $η_{c}(1S,2S)$ in $e^+ e^-$ and $pp$ collisions

We derive the light-front wave function (LFWF) representation of the $γ^{\star} γ^{\star} \to η_{c} (1S),η_{c}(2S)$ transition form factor $F(Q^2_1,Q^2_2)$ for two virtual photons in the initial state. For the LFWF, we use different models obtained from the solution of the Schrödinger equation for a variety of $c\bar{c}$ potentials. We compare our results to the BaBar experimental data for the $η_{c}(1S)$ transition form factor, for one real and one virtual photon. We observe that the onset of the asymptotic behaviour is strongly delayed and discuss applicability of the collinear and/or massless limit. In addition, we present a thorough analysis of $η_{c}(1S,2S)$ quarkonia hadroproduction in $k_{\perp}$-factorisation in the framework of the light-front potential approach for the quarkonium wave function. The off-shell matrix elements for the $g^{\star} g^{\star} \to η_{c} (1S,2S)$ vertices are derived. We discuss the importance of taking into account the gluon virtualities. We present the transverse momentum distributions of $η_c$ for several models of the unintegrated gluon distributions. Our calculations are performed for four distinct parametrizations for the $c\bar{c}$ interaction potential consistent with the meson spectra. We compare our results for $η_{c}(1S)$ to measurements by the LHCb collaboration and present predictions for $η_{c}(2S)$ production.

Inclusive production of $f_2(1270)$ tensor mesons at the LHC via gluon-gluon fusion in the $k_t$-factorization approach

The cross section for inclusive production of $f_2(1270)$ meson is calculated. We include both the mechanism of gluon-gluon fusion as well as the $ππ$ final-state rescattering. The contribution of the gluon-gluon fusion is calculated within the $k_t$-factorization approach with modern unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDFs). Some parameters for the $g^* g^* \to f_2$ vertex are extracted from the $γγ\to f_2(1270) \to ππ$ reactions. The results strongly depend on the parametrization of the $g^* g^* \to f_2(1270)$ form factor. Results of our model are compared to the ALICE preliminary data. The gluon-gluon fusion does not explain low-$p_t$ data but could be the dominant mechanism at somewhat larger meson transverse momenta. By adjusting some parameters the pion-pion rescattering can explain the low-$p_t$ region.

Searching for odderon exchange in exclusive $pp \to pp ϕ$ and $pp \to pp ϕϕ$ reactions at the LHC

The possibility to use the exclusive $pp \to pp ϕ$ and $pp \to pp ϕϕ$ reactions in identifying the odderon exchange is discussed. So far there is no unambiguous experimental evidence for the odderon, the charge conjugation $C = -1$ counterpart of the $C = +1$ pomeron. Recently proposed tensor-pomeron and vector-odderon model for soft high-energy reactions is applied. For the $p p \to p p ϕ$ reaction at high energies the photon-pomeron fusion is the dominant process and the odderon-pomeron fusion is an interesting alternative. Adding odderon exchange improves considerably description of the proton-proton angular correlations measured by the WA102 collaboration. The $p p \to p p ϕϕ$ process via pomeron-pomeron fusion is advantageous one as here the odderon does not couple to protons. The observation of large $M_{ϕϕ}$ and the rapidity difference $Y_{ϕϕ}$ seems well suited to identify odderon exchange. Comparisons with data from the WA102 experiment are made and predictions for LHC experiments are given.

Central exclusive diffractive production of axial-vector $f_{1}(1285)$ and $f_{1}(1420)$ mesons in proton-proton collisions

We present a study of the central exclusive diffractive production of the $f_{1}(1285)$ and $f_{1}(1420)$ resonances in proton-proton collisions. The theoretical results are calculated within the tensor-pomeron approach. Two pomeron-pomeron-$f_{1}$ tensorial couplings labeled by $(l,S) = (2,2)$ and $(4,4)$ are derived. We adjust the model parameters (coupling constants, cutoff constant) to the WA102 experimental data taking into account absorption effects. Both the $(l,S) = (2,2)$ and $(4,4)$ couplings separately allow one to describe the WA102 differential distributions. We compare these predictions with those of the Sakai-Sugimoto model, where the pomeron-pomeron-$f_{1}$ couplings are determined by the mixed axial-gravitational anomaly of QCD. We derive an approximate relation between the pomeron-pomeron-$f_{1}$ coupling constants of this approach and the $(l,S) = (2,2)$ and $(4,4)$ couplings. Then we present our predictions for the energies available at the RHIC and LHC. The total cross sections and several differential distributions are presented. Analysis of the distributions in the azimuthal angle $ϕ_{pp}$ between the transverse momenta of the outgoing protons may be used to disentangle $f_{1}$- and $η$-type resonances contributing to the same final channel. We find for the $f_{1}(1285)$ a total cross section $\sim 38$ $μ$b for $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV and a rapidity cut on the $f_{1}$ of $|{\rm y_{M}}| < 2.5$. We predict a much larger cross section for production of $f_{1}(1285)$ than for production of $f_{2}(1270)$ in the $π^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}$ decay channel for the LHC energies. This opens a possibility to study the $f_{1}(1285)$ meson in experiments planned at the LHC.

Central exclusive production of scalar and pseudoscalar charmonia in the light-front $k_T$-factorization approach

We study exclusive production of scalar $χ_{c0}\equiv χ_c(0^{++})$ and pseudoscalar $η_c$ charmonia states in proton-proton collisions at the LHC energies. The amplitudes for $gg \to χ_{c0}$ as well as for $gg \to η_c$ mechanisms are derived in the $k_{T}$-factorization approach. The $p p \to p p η_c$ reaction is discussed for the first time. We have calculated rapidity, transverse momentum distributions as well as such correlation observables as the distribution in relative azimuthal angle and $(t_1,t_2)$ distributions. The latter two observables are very different for $χ_{c0}$ and $η_c$ cases. In contrast to the inclusive production of these mesons considered very recently in the literature, in the exclusive case the cross section for $η_c$ is much lower than that for $χ_{c0}$ which is due to a special interplay of the corresponding vertices and off-diagonal UGDFs used to calculate the cross sections. We present the numerical results for the key observables in the framework of potential models for the light-front quarkonia wave functions. We also discuss how different are the absorptive corrections for both considered cases.
