On the paper "Quantum theory cannot consistently describe the use of itself"

In the paper "Quantum theory cannot consistently describe the use of itself" by D. Frauchiger and R. Renner an atempt is made at proving a "no-go theorem" that states that either quantum theory cannot be universally applied, even to macroscopic systems, or some very intuitive properties concerning recursive reasoning and uniquenes of physical values must be false. In this paper, we give a concise description of the paper's result, and expose a detail in the proof.

Foundations of Finsler spacetimes from the Observers' Viewpoint

Physical foundations for relativistic spacetimes are revisited, in order to check at what extent Finsler spacetimes lie in their framework. Arguments based on inertial observers (as in the foundations of Special Relativity and Classical Mechanics) are shown to correspond with a double linear approximation in the measurement of space and time. While General Relativity appears by dropping the first linearization, Finsler spacetimes appear by dropping the second one. The classical Ehlers-Pirani-Schild approach is carefully discussed and shown to be compatible with the Lorentz-Finsler case. The precise mathematical definition of Finsler spacetime is discussed by using the {\em space of observers}. Special care is taken in some issues such as: the fact that a Lorentz-Finsler metric would be physically measurable only on the causal directions for a cone structure, the implications for models of spacetimes of some apparently innocuous hypotheses on differentiability, or the possibilities of measurement of a varying speed of light.

On the Existence of Absolutely Maximally Entangled States of Minimal Support II

Absolutely maximally entangled, AME, states are pure multipartite states that give rise to the maximally mixed states when half or more of the parties are traced out. AME states find applications in fields like teleportation or quantum secret sharing, and the problem of finding conditions on their existence has been considered in a number of papers. We consider here AME states of minimal support, that are simpler to analyse. An equivalence with coding theory gives a sufficient condition for their existence, that the number of sites be equal to the local dimension plus one, when the local dimension $d$ is a power of a prime number. In this paper, an equivalence with latin hypercubes is used to prove that the above sufficient condition fails in the first case in which the local dimension is not a prime power, $d=6$. Results for other values of $d$ are also given.

On the Existence of Absolutely Maximally Entangled States of Minimal Support

In this paper we prove that no absolutely maximally entangled, AME, state with minimal support exists with 7 sites and 5 levels. General AME states are pure multipartite states that, when reduced to half or less of the sites, the maximum entropy mixed state is obtained. They have found applications in teleportation and quantum secret sharing, and finding conditions for their existence is a well known open problem. We consider the version of this problem for minimally supported AME states. We single out known both sufficient and necessary conditions in that case. From our negative result, we show that the necessary condition is not sufficient. The proof uses a recent result on the theory of general, nonlinear, classical codes.
