On the Mordell-Weil ranks of supersingular abelian varieties in cyclotomic extensions

Let $F$ be a number field unramified at an odd prime $p$ and $F_\infty$ be the $\mathbf{Z}_p$-cyclotomic extension of $F$. Let $A$ be an abelian variety defined over $F$ with good supersingular reduction at all primes of $F$ above $p$. Büyükboduk and the first named author have defined modified Selmer groups associated to $A$ over $F_\infty$. Assuming that the Pontryagin dual of these Selmer groups are torsion $\mathbf{Z}_p[[\mathrm{Gal}(F_\infty/F)]]$-modules, we give an explicit sufficient condition for the rank of the Mordell-Weil group $A(F_n)$ to be bounded as $n$ varies.

Iwasawa theory of elliptic modular forms over imaginary quadratic fields at non-ordinary primes

We formulate integral Iwasawa main conjectures for suitable twists of a newform $f$ that is non-ordinary at $p$, over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions (in both the definite and the indefinite cases) as well as the $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$-extension of an imaginary quadratic field $K$ where $p$ splits. In order to do so, we define Kobayashi-Sprung-style signed Coleman maps, which we use to introduce doubly-signed Selmer groups. In the same spirit, we construct signed (integral) Beilinson-Flach elements (out of the collection of unbounded Beilinson-Flach elements of Loeffler-Zerbes), which we use to define doubly-signed $p$-adic $L$-functions. The main conjecture then relates these two set of objects. Furthermore, we show that the integral Beilinson-Flach elements form a locally restricted Euler system, that in turn allows us to deduce (under certain technical assumptions) one inclusion in each one of the four main conjectures we formulate here (which may be turned into equalities under favourable circumstances).

Functional Equation for p-adic Rankin-Selberg L-functions

We prove a functional equation for the three-variable $p$-adic $L$-function attached to the Rankin-Selberg convolution of a Coleman family and a CM Hida family, which was studied by Loeffler and Zerbes. Consequentially, we deduce that an anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function attached to a $p$-non-ordinary modular form vanishes identically in the indefinite setting.

Codimension two cycles in Iwasawa theory and elliptic curves with supersingular reduction

A result of Bleher, Chinburg, Greenberg, Kakde, Pappas, Sharifi and Taylor has initiated the topic of higher codimension Iwasawa theory. As a generalization of the classical Iwasawa main conjecture, they prove a relationship between analytic objects (a pair of Katz's $2$-variable $p$-adic $L$-functions) and algebraic objects (two "everywhere unramified'' Iwasawa modules) involving codimension two cycles in a $2$-variable Iwasawa algebra. We prove a result by considering the restriction to an imaginary quadratic field $K$ (where an odd prime $p$ splits) of an elliptic curve $E$, defined over $\mathbb{Q}$, with good supersingular reduction at $p$. On the analytic side, we consider eight pairs of $2$-variable $p$-adic $L$-functions in this setup (four of the $2$-variable $p$-adic $L$-functions have been constructed by Loeffler and a fifth $2$-variable $p$-adic $L$-function is due to Hida). On the algebraic side, we consider modifications of fine Selmer groups over the $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$-extension of $K$. We also provide numerical evidence, using algorithms of Pollack, towards a pseudo-nullity conjecture of Coates-Sujatha.

Rank--two Euler systems for symmetric squares

Let $p\ge 7$ be a prime number and $f$ a normalized eigen-newform with good reduction at $p$ such that its $p$-th Fourier coefficient vanishes. We construct a rank-two Euler system attached to the $p$-adic realization of the symmetric square motive of $f$. Furthermore, we show that the non-triviality is guaranteed by the non-vanishing of the leading term of the relevant $L$-value and the non-vanishing of a certain $p$-adic period modulo $p$.

Euler systems for Hilbert modular surfaces

We construct an Euler system -- a compatible family of global cohomology classes -- for the Galois representations appearing in the geometry of Hilbert modular surfaces. If a conjecture of Bloch and Kato on injectivity of regulator maps holds, this Euler system is non-trivial, and we deduce bounds towards the Iwasawa main conjecture for these Galois representations.

Ranks of elliptic curves over Z_p^2-extensions

Let $E$ be an elliptic curve with good reduction at a fixed odd prime $p$ and $K$ an imaginary quadratic field where $p$ splits. We give a growth estimate for the Mordell-Weil rank of $E$ over finite extensions inside the $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$-extension of $K$.

Iwasawa theory for Rankin--Selberg products of $p$-non-ordinary eigenforms

Let $f$ and $g$ be two modular forms which are non-ordinary at $p$. The theory of Beilinson-Flach elements gives rise to four rank-one non-integral Euler systems for the Rankin-Selberg convolution $f \otimes g$, one for each choice of $p$-stabilisations of $f$ and $g$. We prove (modulo a hypothesis on non-vanishing of $p$-adic $L$-fuctions) that the $p$-parts of these four objects arise as the images under appropriate projection maps of a single class in the wedge square of Iwasawa cohomology, confirming a conjecture of Lei-Loeffler-Zerbes. Furthermore, we define an explicit logarithmic matrix using the theory of Wach modules, and show that this describes the growth of the Euler systems and $p$-adic $L$-functions associated to $f \otimes g$ in the cyclotomic tower. This allows us to formulate "signed" Iwasawa main conjectures for $f\otimes g$ in the spirit of Kobayashi's $\pm$-Iwasawa theory for supersingular elliptic curves; and we prove one inclusion in these conjectures under our running hypotheses.

Functional equations for multi-signed Selmer groups

We study the functional equation for the multi-signed Selmer groups for non-ordinary motives whose Hodge-Tate weights are $0$ and $1$, defined by Büyükboduk and the first named author. This generalizes simultaneously Greenberg's result for ordinary motives and Kim's result for supersingular elliptic curves.

Comparing anticyclotomic Selmer groups of positive coranks for congruent modular forms

We study the variation of Iwasawa invariants of the anticyclotomic Selmer groups of congruent modular forms under the Heegner hypothesis. In particular, we show that even if the Selmer groups we study may have positive coranks, the mu-invariant vanishes for one modular form if and only if it vanishes for the other, and that their lambda-invariants are related by an explicit formula. This generalizes results of Greenberg-Vatsal for the cyclotomic extension, as well as results of Pollack-Weston and Castella-Kim-Longo for the anticyclotomic extension when the Selmer groups in question are cotorsion.

Arithmetic properties of signed Selmer groups at non-ordinary primes

We extend many results on Selmer groups for elliptic curves and modular forms to the non-ordinary setting. More precisely, we study the signed Selmer groups defined using the machinery of Wach modules over $\mathbf{Z}_p$-cyclotomic extensions. First, we provide a definition of residual and non-primitive Selmer groups at non-ordinary primes. This allows us to extend techniques developed by Greenberg (for $p$-ordinary elliptic curves) and Kim ($p$-supersingular elliptic curves) to show that if two $p$-non-ordinary modular forms are congruent to each other, then the Iwasawa invariants of their signed Selmer groups are related in an explicit manner. Our results have several applications. First of all, this allows us to relate the parity of the analytic ranks of such modular forms generalizing a recent result of the first-named author for $p$-supersingular elliptic curves. Second, we can prove a Kida-type formula for the signed Selmer groups generalizing results of Pollack and Weston.

Plus and minus logarithms and Amice transform

We give a new description of Pollack's plus and minus $p$-adic logarithms $\log_p^\pm$ in terms of distributions. In particular, if $μ_\pm$ denote the pre-images of $\log_p^\pm$ under the Amice transform, we give explicit formulae for the values $μ_\pm(a+p^n\mathbb{Z}_p)$ for all $a\in \mathbb{Z}_p$ and all integers $n\ge1$. Our formulae imply that the distribution $μ_-$ agrees with a distribution studied by Koblitz in 1977. Furthermore, we show that a similar description exists for Loeffler's two-variable analogues of these plus and minus logarithms.

Anticyclotomic p-ordinary Iwasawa Theory of Elliptic Modular Forms

This is the first in a series of articles where we will study the Iwasawa theory of an elliptic modular form f along the anticyclotomic Zp-tower of an imaginary quadratic field K where the prime p splits completely. Our goal in this portion is to prove the Iwasawa main conjecture for suitable twists of f assuming that f is p-ordinary, both in the definite and indefinite setups simultaneously, via an analysis of Beilinson-Flach elements.

Estimating class numbers over metabelian extensions

Let $p$ be an odd prime and $L/K$ a $p$-adic Lie extension whose Galois group is of the form $\mathbb{Z}_p^{d-1}\rtimes \mathbb{Z}_p$. Under certain assumptions on the ramification of $p$ and the structure of an Iwasawa module associated to $L$, we study the asymptotic behaviours of the size of the $p$-primary part of the ideal class groups over certain finite subextensions inside $L/K$. This generalizes the classical result of Iwasawa and Cuoco-Monsky in the abelian case and gives a more precise formula than a recent result of Perbet in the non-commutative case when $d=2$.

On the asymptotic growth of Bloch-Kato-Shafarevich-Tate groups of modular forms over cyclotomic extensions

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the Bloch-Kato-Shafarevich-Tate group of a modular form f over the cyclotomic Zp-extension of Q under the assumption that f is non-ordinary at p. In particular, we give upper bounds of these groups in terms of Iwasawa invariants of Selmer groups defined using p-adic Hodge Theory. These bounds have the same form as the formulae of Kobayashi, Kurihara and Sprung for supersingular elliptic curves.

On the parity of supersingular Weil polynomials

Let q be an odd power of a prime p and let A/Fq be a supersingular abelian variety of dimension g. We show that if p>2g+1, then the characteristic polynomial of the q-Frobenius is an even polynomial. This generalizes the well-known result on the vanishing of the trace of the p-Frobenius when p>3 for supersingular elliptic curves over Fp.

Integral Iwasawa theory of Galois representations for non-ordinary primes

In this paper, we study the Iwasawa theory of a motive whose Hodge-Tate weights are $0$ or $1$ (thence in practice, of a motive associated to an abelian variety) at a non-ordinary prime, over the cyclotomic tower of a number field that is either totally real or CM. In particular, under certain technical assumptions, we construct Sprung-type Coleman maps on the local Iwasawa cohomology groups and use them to define integral $p$-adic $L$-functions and (one unconditionally and other conjecturally) cotorsion Selmer groups. This allows us to reformulate Perrin-Riou's main conjecture in terms of these objects, in the same fashion as Kobayashi's $\pm$-Iwasawa theory for supersingular elliptic curves. By the aid of our theory of Coleman-adapted Kolyvagin systems that we develop here, we deduce parts of Perrin-Riou's main conjecture from an explicit reciprocity conjecture.
