$L_\infty$-morphisms between twisted Courant $r$-Lie algebras and untwisted Courant $(r{+}1)$-Lie algebroids

In "Lie infinity algebras and higher analogues of Dirac structures and Courant algebroids" [arXiv:1003.1004], Marco Zambon constructs an $L_\infty$-algebra associated with any higher standard or twisted Courant algebroid (also known as a Vinogradov algebroid), and exhibits an explicit $L_\infty$-morphism from the Lie algebra associated with a standard Lie algebroid twisted by a closed 2-form to the Lie-2 algebra of the standard Courant algebroid. He poses the question of whether analogous canonical $L_\infty$-morphisms exist in higher degrees -- namely, for any standard higher Courant algebroid twisted by a closed $(r+1)$-form. We adfirmatively answer this question, presenting a general framework that naturally yields such canonical $L_\infty$-morphisms for arbitrary $r$, while at the same time clarifying the geometrical and homotopical structures underlying the construction. We also show how this framework accommodates the canonical morphism between Roger's observable $L_\infty$-algebra of a pre-$r$-plectic manifold and the higher Courant algebra described by Zambon and one of the authors in "Observables on multisymplectic manifolds and higher Courant algebroids" [arXiv:2209.05836].

Multisymplectic observable reduction using constraint triples

The purpose of this paper is to present a fully algebraic formalism for the construction and reduction of $L_\infty$-algebras of observables inspired by multisymplectic geometry, using Gerstenhaber algebras, BV-modules, and the constraint triple formalism. In the "geometric case", we reconstruct and conceptually explain the recent results of arXiv:2206.03137(3).

Measurement-based uncomputation of quantum circuits for modular arithmetic

Measurement-based uncomputation (MBU) is a technique used to perform probabilistic uncomputation of quantum circuits. We formalize this technique for the case of single-qubit registers, and we show applications to modular arithmetic. First, we present formal statements for several variations of quantum circuits performing non-modular addition: controlled addition, addition by a constant, and controlled addition by a constant. We do the same for subtraction and comparison circuits. This addresses gaps in the current literature, where some of these variants were previously unexplored. Then, we shift our attention to modular arithmetic, where again we present formal statements for modular addition, controlled modular addition, modular addition by a constant, and controlled modular addition by a constant, using different kinds of plain adders and combinations thereof. We introduce and prove a "MBU lemma" in the context of single-qubit registers, which we apply to all aforementioned modular arithmetic circuits. Using MBU, we reduce the Toffoli count and depth by $10\%$ to $15\%$ for modular adders based on the architecture of [VBE96], and by almost $25\%$ for modular adders based on the architecture of [Bea02]. Our results have the potential to improve other circuits for modular arithmetic, such as modular multiplication and modular exponentiation, and can find applications in quantum cryptanalysis.

Reduction of $L_\infty$-Algebras of Observables on Multisymplectic Manifolds

We develop a reduction scheme for the $L_\infty$-algebra of observables on a premultisymplectic manifold $(M,ω)$ in the presence of a compatible Lie algebra action $\mathfrak{g}\curvearrowright M$ and subset $N\subset M$. This reproduces in the symplectic setting the Poisson algebra of observables on the Marsden-Weinstein-Meyer symplectic reduced space, whenever the reduced space exists, but is otherwise distinct from the Dirac, Śniatycki-Weinstein, and Arms-Cushman-Gotay observable reduction schemes. We examine various examples, including multicotangent bundles and multiphase spaces, and we conclude with a discussion of applications to classical field theories and quantization.

Observables on multisymplectic manifolds and higher Courant algebroids

Let $ω$ be a closed, non-degenerate differential form of arbitrary degree. Associated to it there are an $L_{\infty}$-algebra of observables, and an $L_{\infty}$-algebra of sections of the higher Courant algebroid twisted by $ω$. Our main result is the existence of an $L_{\infty}$-embedding of the former into the latter. We display explicit formulae for the embedding, involving the Bernoulli numbers. When $ω$ is an integral symplectic form, the embedding can be realized geometrically via the prequantization construction, and when $ω$ is a 3-form the embedding was found by Rogers in 2010. Further, in the presence of homotopy moment maps, we show that the embedding is compatible with gauge transformations.

Homotopy Comomentum Maps in Multisymplectic Geometry

Homotopy comomentum maps are a higher generalization of the notion of moment map introduced to extend the concept of Hamiltonian actions to the framework of multisymplectic geometry. Loosely speaking, higher means passing from considering symplectic 2-form to consider differential forms in higher degrees. The goal of this thesis is to provide new explicit constructions and concrete examples related to group actions on multisymplectic manifolds admitting homotopy comomentum maps. The first result is a complete classification of compact group actions on multisymplectic spheres. The existence of a homotopy comomentum map about the latter depends on the dimension of the sphere and the transitivity of the group action. Several concrete examples of such actions are also provided. The second novel result is the explicit construction of the higher analogue of the embedding of the Poisson algebra of a given symplectic manifold into the corresponding twisted Lie algebroid. It is also proved a compatibility condition for such embedding for gauge-related multisymplectic manifolds in presence of a compatible Hamiltonian group action. The latter construction could play a role in determining the multisymplectic analogue of the geometric quantization procedure. Finally, a concrete construction of a homotopy comomentum map for the action of the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms on the multisymplectic 3-dimensional Euclidean space is proposed. This map can be naturally related to hydrodynamics. For instance, it transgresses to the standard hydrodynamical co-momentum map of Arnold, Marsden and Weinstein and others. A slight generalization of this construction to a special class of Riemannian manifolds is also provided. The explicitly constructed homotopy comomentum map can be also related to knot theory by virtue of the aforementioned hydrodynamical interpretation.

A hydrodynamical homotopy co-momentum map and a multisymplectic interpretation of higher order linking numbers

In this article a homotopy co-momentum map (à la Callies-Frégier-Rogers-Zambon) trangressing to the standard hydrodynamical co-momentum map of Arnol'd, Marsden and Weinstein and others is constructed and then generalized to a special class of Riemannian manifolds. Also, a covariant phase space interpretation of the coadjoint orbits associated to the Euler evolution for perfect fluids and in particular of Brylinski's manifold of smooth oriented knots is discussed. As an application of the above homotopy co-momentum map, a reinterpretation of the (Massey) higher order linking numbers in terms of conserved quantities within the multisymplectic framework is provided and knot theoretic analogues of first integrals in involution are determined.

Multisymplectic actions of compact Lie groups on spheres

We investigate the existence of homotopy comoment maps (comoments) for high-dimensional spheres seen as multisymplectic manifolds. Especially, we solve the existence problem for compact effective group actions on spheres and provide explicit constructions for such comoments in interesting particular cases.
