Assessing Web Fingerprinting Risk

Modern Web APIs allow developers to provide extensively customized experiences for website visitors, but the richness of the device information they provide also make them vulnerable to being abused to construct browser fingerprints, device-specific identifiers that enable covert tracking of users even when cookies are disabled. Previous research has established entropy, a measure of information, as the key metric for quantifying fingerprinting risk. However, earlier studies had two major limitations. First, their entropy estimates were based on either a single website or a very small sample of devices. Second, they did not adequately consider correlations among different Web APIs, potentially grossly overestimating their fingerprinting risk. We provide the first study of browser fingerprinting which addresses the limitations of prior work. Our study is based on actual visited pages and Web APIs reported by tens of millions of real Chrome browsers in-the-wild. We accounted for the dependencies and correlations among Web APIs, which is crucial for obtaining more realistic entropy estimates. We also developed a novel experimental design that accurately and efficiently estimates entropy while never observing too much information from any single user. Our results provide an understanding of the distribution of entropy for different website categories, confirm the utility of entropy as a fingerprinting proxy, and offer a method for evaluating browser enhancements which are intended to mitigate fingerprinting.

Webs and $q$-Howe dualities in types $\mathbf{B}\mathbf{C}\mathbf{D}$

We define web categories describing intertwiners for the orthogonal and symplectic Lie algebras, and, in the quantized setup, for certain orthogonal and symplectic coideal subalgebras. They generalize the Brauer category, and allow us to prove quantum versions of some classical type $\mathbf{B}\mathbf{C}\mathbf{D}$ Howe dualities.

Annular Evaluation and Link Homology

We use categorical annular evaluation to give a uniform construction of both $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ and HOMFLYPT Khovanov-Rozansky link homology, as well as annular versions of these theories. Variations on our construction yield $\mathfrak{gl}_{-n}$ link homology, i.e. a link homology theory associated to the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}_{0|n}$, both for links in $S^3$ and in the thickened annulus. In the $n=2$ case, this produces a categorification of the Jones polynomial that we show is distinct from Khovanov homology, and gives a finite-dimensional categorification of the colored Jones polynomial. This behavior persists for general $n$. Our approach yields simple constructions of spectral sequences relating these theories, and emphasizes the roles of super vector spaces, categorical traces, and current algebras in link homology.

Mixed quantum skew Howe duality and link invariants of type A

We define a ribbon category $\mathsf{Sp}(β)$, depending on a parameter $β$, which encompasses Cautis, Kamnitzer and Morrison's spider category, and describes for $β=m-n$ the monoidal category of representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$ generated by exterior powers of the vector representation and their duals. We identify this category $\mathsf{Sp}(β)$ with a direct limit of quotients of a dual idempotented quantum group $\dot{\mathsf{U}}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{r+s})$, proving a mixed version of skew Howe duality in which exterior powers and their duals appear at the same time. We show that the category $\mathsf{Sp}(β)$ gives a unified natural setting for defining the colored $\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n}$ link invariant (for $β=m-n$) and the colored HOMFLY-PT polynomial (for $β$ generic).

Categorification of tensor product representations of sl(k) and category O

We construct categorifications of tensor products of arbitrary finite-dimensional irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{sl}_k$ with subquotient categories of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$, generalizing previous work of Sussan and Mazorchuk-Stroppel. Using Lie theoretical methods, we prove in detail that they are tensor product categorifications according to the recent definition of Losev and Webster. As an application we deduce an equivalence of categories between certain versions of category $\mathcal{O}$ and Webster's tensor product categories. Finally we indicate how the categorifications of tensor products of the natural representation of $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$ fit into this framework.

Walled Brauer algebras as idempotent truncations of level 2 cyclotomic quotients

We realize (via an explicit isomorphism) the walled Brauer algebra for an arbitrary integral parameter delta as an idempotent truncation of a level two cyclotomic degenerate affine walled Brauer algebra. The latter arises naturally in Lie theory as the endomorphism ring of so-called mixed tensor products, i.e. of a parabolic Verma module tensored with some copies of the natural representation and its dual. This provides us a method to construct central elements in the walled Brauer algebras and can be applied to establish the Koszulity of the walled Brauer algebra if delta is not zero.

A note on the gl(m|n) link invariants and the HOMFLY-PT polynomial

We present a short and unified representation-theoretical treatment of type A link invariants (that is, the HOMFLY-PT polynomials, the Jones polynomial, the Alexander polynomial and, more generally, the gl(m|n) quantum invariants) as link invariants with values in the quantized oriented Brauer category.

Categorification of tensor powers of the vector representation of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$

We consider the monoidal subcategory of finite dimensional representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$ generated by the vector representation, and we provide a diagram calculus for the intertwining operators, which allows to compute explicitly the canonical basis. We construct then a categorification of these representations and of the action of both $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$ and the intertwining operators using subquotient categories of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$.

Homfly-Pt and Alexander polynomials from a doubled Schur algebra

We define a generalization of the idempotented Schur algebra which gives a unified setting for a quantum group presentation of the Homfly-Pt polynomial, together with its specializations to the Alexander polynomial and the slm Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants.

The Alexander polynomial as quantum invariant of links

In these notes we collect some results about finite dimensional representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$ and related invariants of framed tangles which are well-known to experts but difficult to find in the literature. In particular, we give an explicit description of the ribbon structure on the category of finite dimensional $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$-representation and we use it to construct the corresponding quantum invariant of framed tangles. We explain in detail why this invariant vanishes on closed links and how one can modify the construction to get a nonzero invariant of framed closed links. Finally we show how to obtain the Alexander polynomial by considering the vector representation of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$.

A diagram algebra for Soergel modules corresponding to smooth Schubert varieties

Using combinatorial properties of symmetric polynomials, we compute explicitly the Soergel modules for some permutations whose corresponding Schubert varieties are rationally smooth. We build from them diagram algebras whose module categories are equivalent to the subquotient categories of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ which show up in categorification of $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$-representations. We construct diagrammatically the graded cellular structure and the properly stratified structure of these algebras.

The degenerate affine walled Brauer algebra

We define a degenerate affine version of the walled Brauer algebra, that has the same role plaid by the degenerate affine Hecke algebra for the symmetric group algebra. We use it to prove a higher level mixed Schur-Weyl duality for gl_N. We consider then families of cyclotomic quotients of level two which appear naturally in Lie theory and we prove that they inherit from there a natural grading and a graded cellular structure.
