We study obviously strategy-proof implementation in the framework of social choice over acts introduced by Bahel and Sprumont (2020). We characterize the class of unanimous social choice functions that are implementable via obviously strategy-proof mechanisms. Our main result shows that a unanimous social choice function is obviously strategy-proof implementable if and only if it is dictatorial.
This paper characterizes the single-peaked domain on a tree via the strategy-proofness of extreme rules defined on that tree. For any tree, these rules are unanimous and anonymous on any preference domain. In particular, we show that they are strategy-proof only on the single-peaked domain associated with that tree.
We investigate preference domains under which every unanimous and locally strategy-proof social choice function (scf) satisfies dictatorship. We identify a condition on domains called connected with distinct neighbours which is necessary for dictatorship under unanimity and local strategy-proofness. Further, we show that this condition is sufficient within the class of domains where every unanimous and locally strategy-proof scf satisfies tops-onlyness. While a complete characterization remains open, we also show that on domains that are connected with distinct neighbours, unanimity and strategy-proofness (a stronger requirement) imply dictatorship.
We study a public decision problem in which a finite society selects a public-good level from a closed interval. Agents either have single-peaked preferences or are completely indifferent over the interval; the latter capture abstention or a "none of the above" stance within the decision process. We study this augmented single-peaked domain. On this domain, we characterize the class of rules called target rules with a default. We show that onto-ness and pairwise strategy-proofness characterize this class of rules.
