Multiple criteria decision-making for lane-change model

Simulation has long been an essential part of testing autonomous driving systems, but only recently has simulation been useful for building and training self-driving vehicles. Vehicle behavioural models are necessary to simulate the interactions between robot cars. This paper proposed a new method to formalize the lane-changing model in urban driving scenarios. We define human incentives from different perspectives, speed incentive, route change incentive, comfort incentive and courtesy incentive etc. We applied a decision-theoretical tool, called Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) to take these incentive policies into account. The strategy of combination is according to different driving style which varies for each driving. Thus a lane-changing decision selection algorithm is proposed. Not only our method allows for varying the motivation of lane-changing from the purely egoistic desire to a more courtesy concern, but also they can mimic drivers' state, inattentive or concentrate, which influences their driving Behaviour. We define some cost functions and calibrate the parameters with different scenarios of traffic data. Distinguishing driving styles are used to aggregate decision-makers' assessments about various criteria weightings to obtain the action drivers desire most. Our result demonstrates the proposed method can produce varied lane-changing behaviour. Unlike other lane-changing models based on artificial intelligence methods, our model has more flexible controllability.

Spam Review Detection with Graph Convolutional Networks

Customers make a lot of reviews on online shopping websites every day, e.g., Amazon and Taobao. Reviews affect the buying decisions of customers, meanwhile, attract lots of spammers aiming at misleading buyers. Xianyu, the largest second-hand goods app in China, suffering from spam reviews. The anti-spam system of Xianyu faces two major challenges: scalability of the data and adversarial actions taken by spammers. In this paper, we present our technical solutions to address these challenges. We propose a large-scale anti-spam method based on graph convolutional networks (GCN) for detecting spam advertisements at Xianyu, named GCN-based Anti-Spam (GAS) model. In this model, a heterogeneous graph and a homogeneous graph are integrated to capture the local context and global context of a comment. Offline experiments show that the proposed method is superior to our baseline model in which the information of reviews, features of users and items being reviewed are utilized. Furthermore, we deploy our system to process million-scale data daily at Xianyu. The online performance also demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Detecting Standard Violation Errors in Smart Contracts

We present SOLAR, a new analysis tool for automatically detecting standard violation errors in Ethereum smart contracts.Given the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) bytecode of a smart contract and a user specified constraint or invariant derived from a technical standard such as ERC-20,SOLAR symbolically executes the contract, explores all possible execution paths, and checks whether it is possible to initiate a sequence of malicious transactions to violate the specified constraint or invariant. Our experimental results highlight the effectiveness of SOLAR in finding new errors in smart con-tracts. Out of the evaluated 779 ERC-20 and 310 ERC-721smart contracts, SOLAR found 255 standard violation errors in 197 vulnerable contracts with only three false positives.237 out of the 255 errors are zero-day errors that are not re-ported before. Our results sound the alarm on the prevalence of standard violation errors in critical smart contracts that manipulate publicly traded digital assets

Revisiting Gilbert Strang's "A Chaotic Search for $i$"

In the paper "A Chaotic Search for $i$"~(\cite{strang1991chaotic}), Strang completely explained the behaviour of Newton's method when using real initial guesses on $f(x) = x^{2}+1$, which has only a pair of complex roots $\pm i$. He explored an exact symbolic formula for the iteration, namely $x_{n}=\cot{ \left( 2^{n} θ_{0} \right) }$, which is valid in exact arithmetic. In this paper, we extend this to to $k^{th}$ order Householder methods, which include Halley's method, and to the secant method. Two formulae, $x_{n}=\cot{ \left( θ_{n-1}+θ_{n-2} \right) }$ with $θ_{n-1}=\mathrm{arccot}{\left(x_{n-1}\right)}$ and $θ_{n-2}=\mathrm{arccot}{\left(x_{n-2}\right)}$, and $x_{n}=\cot{ \left( (k+1)^{n} θ_{0} \right) }$ with $θ_{0} = \mathrm{arccot}(x_{0})$, are provided. The asymptotic behaviour and periodic character are illustrated by experimental computation. We show that other methods (Schröder iterations of the first kind) are generally not so simple. We also explain an old method that can be used to allow Maple's \textsl{Fractals[Newton]} package to visualize general one-step iterations by disguising them as Newton iterations.
